[cite]Posted By: Chunes[/cite]Suze, you're saying we should trust Pardew judgement because he sees those players every day, but it was his judgement to sign them. And apparently they're not good enough - so basically he signed three strikers who aren't even good enough to play for the team. So you're saying that, having signed three strikers that aren't good enough to even play, we should trust that Pardew knows what he's doing with this signing!

    Doesn't work for me.

kind of but not really. I'm saying, we shouldn't instantly criticise him for bringing in players who are perhaps ones for the future, because we assumed they'd be playing this season - was there an annoucement they'd be ones for 2008? no, we just expected that and assumed it. and now we're disappointed.
They may be good enough to play in time just not right now, or, if they impress at another club, they could possibly be sold for more money at a lower league but higher than the league they came from (i doubt mcleod).
I cringe at the excitement created when we've signed some players in the past because the hopes pinned by supporters for instant success is debatable, the way the crowd were booing one minute and then getting very excited when dickson comes on expecting a miracle is slightly deluded imo. not saying he cant do it, but the fans do need to lower their expectations of our players and our team as a whole. I do however think in the same way we are, as a team as a whole underperforming.

edited to say> and yes, I don't think we can necessarily criticise people based on a small percentage of what we see and profess to know more about it than those being employed to do that job. I understand thats just the way it goes because of the industry they are in, but it just seems a little ott at times to me.
  • Sco's comments re Pards & Lisbie:

But how many players stay fit for a whole season? Most players will pick up an injury or two, a suspension, loss of form or simply losing their place to the man who came in and siezed his chance.

Of course, Lisbie needed that fresh start away from the boo -boys. But its a squad game anyhow.
  • Suze. Pardew used to keep Tevez on the bench.
  • Maybe because Tevez wasn't fit enough to play a whole game or didn't show what he was capable of whilst training with West Ham? Who knows.
  • Don't listen to Chunes Suzi he's only a plastic anyway!

Tevez was fit and the whole world knew what he was capable of.

Mcleod, Dickson and Fleetwood are not 20 years old. If they are not ready to play now then they never will be. And if that's the case then they should never have signed. But I don't think that is the case at all. As I said, the bloke used to keep Tevez on the bench.

Also, your reasoning reminds me of what you used to say when things were going badly in our first championship season: It's all about next year. The two year plan of which you believed in more than anyone else (probably).

This seems to be the only safe haven an optimist has these days.
  • Does anyone happen to know what the longest amount of time on the pitch Dickson has had for us so far?

Has he started a game yet?

    (my memory is terrible)
  • Tevez started most of the games he played under Pards, was off the bench a couple of times
  • [cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]Tevez started most of the games he played under Pards, was off the bench a couple of times

No he didn't. During one period he didn't play for them for an entire month.

Nope. 13 appearences. 9 in the league, 4 in the cup.

you seem to know what you're talking about - maybe you should apply for some vacant managers positions!

I do'nt really remember much of what I said then, but I just thought people should lower their expectations because everyone got rather up themselves and thought the team were too good for the championship, which we're obviously not. I still dont know where Pardew said about the 2 year plan, so god knows whether it was true, but I guess I'm not as impatient or irrational as some people are.

Maybe because I won the premiership with charlton on football manager I think I know better. Still think I could do a job ;-)

Rothko wikipedia seems to disagree with you.

Rothko, wikipedia seems to disagree with you.

Just looking at Soccerbase at the games he played. Wasn't he injuired during that time?
  • Doesn't say. But I remember a lot of uproar from hammers fans that he wasn't playing him so maybe the two coincide.
  • Tevez was injured a lot when he signed, so that will explain it a bit.
He did play some games for Pardew, but didn't score a single goal in that time.

Last night i won the star cup 50cc on mariokart but it doesn't mean i should start driving down waterfalls :-)

These would be the same fans who were chanting Pardew's name when we stuck four past them at the Valley.
  • 50cc suzi. You wuss!
  • [cite]Posted By: Chunes[/cite]50cc suzi. You wuss!

haven't had it that long! I'm making my way through the 150cc's now! off out to a gig tonight so no mariokart
  • He doesnt seem bad, well according to sunderland, and his youth team coach he is quite a good player.
However, has anyone noticed the charlton poll on the cafc website.
im not sure if this is because the management team arent sure what to do
But we always seem to get:
Should so and so start at the weekend?
ITS YOUR CHOICE!!!!! not the publics
    does anyone agree?

  • The question is: Why does Pardew have to sign players in order to have a look at them?
  • [cite]Posted By: jimmymelrose[/cite]The question is: Why does Pardew have to sign players in order to have a look at them?

To be fair to Pards Jim this is only a months lone.So more like a test run round the block as opposed to emtying your savings and dumping them on the dealers table.

I was referring more to the other 3: Dickson, Fleetwood and Mcleod. This loan is not alone in its mystery, and I am not the lone figure with this opinion.
  • Sounds like Helguson is going on loan to QPR. No doubt in time to find the net against us next Tues.

So they get the experienced striker and we got a promising young lad with an engaging smile who has never scored a senior goal.

Just one of those seasons, eh?

Nothing to do with who has the greater spending power? No, course not, can't be a factor.
  • So could we not afford Helguson's wages then?

In that case, why did the manager promise us that an experienced striker who could do a job would ''definitely'' be coming in on loan if he knew all along that we couldn't afford one?

as said before Pardew is the master of spin.
  • Pardew should replace John Sargeant on 'Strictly'

Just one of those Tango's eh Al

Don't know if we can afford his wages or not but QPR can afford to pay more and perhaps pay a bigger loan fee as well.

DId Pardew say that an experienced striker who could do a job would be "definitely" coming and if he did does Helguson's POSSIBLE move to QPR mean that that is no longer a possibility or just that one player, who AP may never have wanted, is perhaps not available.

What he said was 'a couple of experienced players who can do a job, one of them defintely a striker' ... wrongly as it turned out, a lot of people on this board thought he meant Helguson and the Hermanator.

Or perhaps that''s what he meant and he couldn't get them. Whatever, we are not getting what the billing implied - but that said I still hope the inexperienced Waghorn astounds us all!
