[cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]young strong in a rooney mould, would imagine very cheap,a gamble yes,but what does that say to McCleod,Dickson and Fleetwood ?
It says "Get fit Izele, Get used to league football Stu, you're rubbish Chris" ; - )
If he is better than we have then all well and good. May seem harsh but that's pro football.
I went to the youth cup last season, and he was far and away the best player on the pitch. If we look at Jonjo and our hopes for him, Waghorn was clever, quick, two footed, hard working and the only player who looked ready for "League" football.
However - this doesn't really say a lot for the confidence of Pards in Varney, Gray, Todorov, McLeod, Dickson and Fleetwood - all of whom are probably as good as Waghorn right now - though longterm, I think Waghorn will grow into a very, very good player.
Hilarious. We've lacked goals from our strikers yet the only ones he's given a prolonged run are Varney and Gray. So instead of trying Dickson, Fleetwood or Mcleod (all players he brought in himself), he brings in a 17 year old on loan. What was the point of signing them in the first place.
I have no idea about Waghorn so I'll reserve judgement till I've seen him play. I do know though that I wish we'd spend a little of the money we have left on a decent coach for the forwards so best try to utilise the talent we have. Must be a few old premier league players who could pass on a bit to Varney et al.
Is this the "someone who is in a bit of form and who is capable of scoring a special goal" we were promised?
To be honest, I'm surprised we are doing business with Sunderland at all after last season. When Mr Pardew said we had been "used" on a couple of last year's loan deals , I assumed he was in part talking about Keane palming us off with Greg Halford (who will no doubt play a blinder for Shef Utd against us on Satruday !!!).
But good luck to young Waghorn, anyway. Hope he can get a few goals for us and doesn't go back to Sunderland scoreless and moaning about the lack of service...

No, I think Cook was the one being referred to in the "used" comment rather than Halford.
will he start on saturday tho? think not. if he does get a few for us but were still struggling whats stopping a higher placed club comming in for him once the month is up. Good luck to the lad lets hope he does the biz.
[cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]He could just be what we need,he is young and very hungry.
exactly
He might be a total flop but it is a months loan with an option to extend to three so if he's no good or DIckson or McLeod react in the right way to his coming then he go back in December.
If it works then we have another good player to choose from.
Let's at least give him 10 or 15 minutes before we boo him : - )
Maybe because a 17 year old centre forward with no league goals to his name and hardly any experience should be WAY down on our list of priorities given our defensive frailties and the need for someone to show some bleedin' leadership .... in the changing room AND on the pitch ...
Might aswell stay hopeful untill we've seen him play.
i'm sure alot of gillingham fans were thinking who's this dickson fella coming to play for a a few months and look what he did for them in a lower league.
Whether or not this guy has had premiership experience, he IS a premiership player.
"Let's at least give him 10 or 15 minutes before we boo him "
Come on Henry, be fair. I've got my slide rule here and I've scientifically run it over our boos-to-goals ratio this season, and I reckon he's got 17 mins 28 secs exactly. if he hasn't scored by his 18th minute in a Charlton shirt, then pack him straight back up north as a proven failure !

I'll set the stop watch Nigel ; - )
PS Nigel I don't think most people on here are young enough to "know what a slide rule is for" as the song says. You can see some lovely examples in the science museum these days
smacks of absolute desperation. Unbelievable. I was prepared to give Pards a chance after hearing him at NWK and after Saturday but this has to be a joke. If we are to pin our hopes on an 18 yr old kid why not pin them on Ben Godfrey instead ?
As for Fleets/Izzy/Dickson - what must they be thinking ? C'mon, an 18 yr old rookie ain't gonna get us out of the doodoo is he. We need experience not youthful hopefulness. What happened to players in form too. A joke imho.
Good luck to the lad though, he'll bloody well need it in spades !!

I dont care if he does the off to a higher place club it mean he done the biz whilst he was here and helped us up the league hopefully!
I would say that Richard Murray mentioned a possible 4 loans so please dont start losing the plot till we see how the week unfolds or indeed how any new players play.
bloke hasn't a clue - should try giving Dickson or Fleetwood a run of 5 or 6 games before signing an 18 year old "nobody" . In all respect to the lad, he aint what we need.
I'm actually very happy with this - not a "Billy big spuds" that will upset the applecart - and a bit of an unknown quantity.
I watched him in the Youth cup last year and he destroyed us - fantastic touch, VERY strong and a great eye for goal. I expect to get ripped into for this but am willing to go on record as saying he reminds me of a young Wayne Rooney
He may not be a household name but he is a bloody excellent footballer and I, for one, am pleased.
You'll only hear good stuff about him from Sunderland..

I find myself, for once, in total agreement. I'm sitting here in total shock.
He'll be here a month and realistically he can't do any worse than our other strikers at the moment.
what can't do worse than the one's we havn't really tried yet ? Izzy, Fleets and Dicko ? I mean I'm not confident any of them can do it but surely they should be given a chance over an 18 yr old loanee. If he were our own then great but ......

Best young striker you've never heard of... oh other than Jay Simpson (well until now anyway)

LOL, I did think something like that!

He's not the signing to get me excited ....
Yeah.And we've got him for a MONTH.Inspired.
The fat lady is gurgling.

He'll be counting the days.

Have to partially agree here I know Ben and I know he wants to play! (he is suspended atm 5 yellows though)
But once again have heard good stuff about Waghorn...

Pardew's man management skills are worse thans Curbs - bet both must have read the book " how to p**s off my team in one easy lesson"
