honestly would rather Francis play against Spurs., i know it sounds crazy but we know Francis is crap and a bad performance against Bale is hardly going to affect him as there have been so many this season.

Jenkinson is young and an afternoon against Bale, Van Der Vart etc could destroy him and his confidence. Hold him back and have a Waggy 2008 impact.

When we play a league game, Jenkinson deserves a chance.

I agree with cafcdan18. We are going to get slaughtered against Spurs anyway, so why kill Jenkinson's confidence so young. save him for the next league game unless we get a replacement in between now and Sunday.

I am not a fan of Francis but i am also not a fan of putting youngsters in if they will be well out of their depth.
  • Agreed hold Jenks back , save him for the league

    Agreed
  • Think we have a really good kid here, can see him making one of the defensive positions his, in this or next season. Looks compsosed on the ball and not scared to run with it.

agreed - like him a lot.
  • I think so too, pick out some really good passes right across the pitch......bad back pass to Elliott though.

Also hes left foot crosses were better than hes right foot crosses against Exeter ? Is he right footed, left footed or both.

    Hes got potential though.

Agreed, but definately not at left back!

Agreed, but definately not at left back!

Agreed but im gonna go out on a limb and say apart from the stupid backpass, I thought he looked better than both Bessone & Fry, he seemed to give us an outlet on the left.

That's because he is a right back

Jenko or a fit Solly ahead of Fancis

He's definitely naturally right footed, showed a few times he's ok with his left though.

Will be interesting to see if his best position turns out to be right back or centre back.

Could be a future Finland international as well.
  • Very impressed. Reminded me of a taller Grant Basey with pace. Defended well and got forward very well and played some lovely cross field passes to Wagstaff. Not worried about the fullback positions now with Solly back as well. But we need to get some pace in the centre.
  • Excellent tonight, best charlton player a lough that's not saying much. Wonder what it means for Solly.
  • Great little player, he will turn into a VERY good player before we know it. Love how he likes to push up and attack as soon as he has the ball.
  • I could be completely wrong here, but doesnt he play both RB and CB? Too risky to put him into the centre of defence?

like jenkinson a lot but id have anyone ahead of francis
  • He at least tried to get further down the line than Fry did. Seemed more mobile and linked play going forward well.

Denis Irwin....one of the best left backs in recent times, and he was right footed.

hope he does well, but I remain to be convinced, definately not a left back and we shouldn't be playing players out of position. He was far to predictable last night and his back pass was a shocker, if Francis had done that there would've been about a dozen threads on here about it.

seems to lack a bit of pace for me.

Spot on Eltham, although I'm not sure about the lack of pace, seems quick enough to me. We have an amazing habit of bigging up our young players on here. I actually believe he could go on to do well, but Solly was the last one to be the best thing since sliced bread and Wagstaff before him. Jenkinson should not have been played at left back yesterday, big mistake from the coaching staff.

He's quicker than you think - saw him chasing back when out of position at Hartlepool and his acceleration was seriously impressive.
  • The lad himself did well enough in the circumstances but I'm really not keen on playing right footed players at left back. Looks confident going forward agreed but then much of the good work is undone by having to check back inside onto his right. His back pass nearly gave me a heart attack let alone a fragile defence but that's the sort of thing I'd expect CP to knock out of him given time.

Early days for the lad so don't want to be critical and he's the one bright point of a depressing week.

Personally thought he did well, would not have him as number one in the pecking order either side of the field but lots of potential to be developed.

His long, accurate crossfield passes were miles better than most current CAFC play. And he is fast.

Can't comment on last night but he certainly didn't look slow against Exeter unlike Basey on his debut who was left for dead by a 73 year old Trevor Sinclair!
  • The more I see of this young lad the more impressed I am. Similar in style to Gareth Bale (obviously a helluva long way to go to be anywhere near as good) in terms of his athleticism and eagerness to get forward.

Naturally right footed (?) so is doing a great Dennis Irwin covering at left back but I think when we have a left back return he will be great on the right flank.

Something positive at least coming out of the last few weeks of misery!

The boy is fantastic even though he is out of position. Bar dailly and les, he's in my top 3 today.

Unfortunately though teams are already wising up to him coming inside, Tranmere continued to show him the outside all day, would love to see him right back.
  • Not afraid to take responsibility and run with the ball. Bit naive at times and needs to know when to push up. That will come with experience. Like what I have seen so far.
