Anyone that says they wouldn't leave their present job for better pay, better prospects and a better lifestyle is either a liar or completely void of personal ambition...

Very true.
Not sure I'd shaft my employer of 10 years to do so though, having only given them 7 days work in that time. He could have signed and left any time he wanted, allowing us to be properly compensated for a decade of development.
I don't blame him for leaving. As you say, anyone (who isn't a fan) would. Doing so this way is a f*** you to a lot of people who have supported him though.
Consequently I can't say good luck to him. He hasn't earned that much respect.
He was Linked with Arsenal and if we wanted to keep him -we should have made him an offer sooner and made it worth while.............i am sure we can get a back on Loan for the Season...lets Hope we learn from our mistakes---lock down our kIds
yep, if he is that good a prospect why did he only get a year last summer ? Blimey, both McOxo and Francis got two and they are crap. And lets not forget teams like Arsenal, West Ham etc would have been following his progress for a few years not just seven games in League 1.
Whilst I don't wish him ill, I think that after the club invested a great deal of time and money on him he should follow the example of jonjo and sign a contract and then move on. If he was upset by the fans reaction last week he needs to get over it all players experience this type of reaction from their fans at one time or another.
It is disappointing if any player who the club wishes to retain decides to move elsewhere but I think there is a bit of an overreaction.
His departure is another result of the club's prior financial position that has seen us now churn 130 players in 6 yrs. Had we had the finances and belief in his potential we could have given him a 2 yr deal this season - we did not.
The lad has performed reasonably well for the side most usually playing out of position but only made the team after injuries had virtually ruled everybody else out - he ranked behind Francis, Solly, Fry, Jackson, Bessone.
Going forward - do you not think the club will seek to strengthen the squad in the positions he will seek to compete for?
From his perspective it is unlikely he would be first choice in either his preferred central role or at full back leaving him to continue to "develop" his game at a level and in an environment he has already played in for 3 years. If he has received an option to develop his game elsewhere in a fresh environment, with better players and on better terms - it is hard to see why he would not do so.
It brings into question the whole scope of how young players are to develop and the opportunities they are afforded. There is no longer a reserve structure and young professionals at our level to secure some experience of "senior" football are shunted to virtually all levels of the footballing pyramid. It is far from ideal.
Dissappointed he didn't do us a favour, sign and stick a clause in that he can go anyway sort of thing, like Jonjo Shelvey did. He still got his dream move but didn't bite the hand that fed him, so to speak.
But I have to say, our club has not exactly done themselves any favours recently with our own youth players, instead preferring to ship ours out to get experience and bring in any loans we can get our hands on. They need to alter that policy or others will start walking too.
I doubt they'd get the dispensation from the PL for an emergency loan for a right back when they have Jenkinson on the bench and having already played games this season.
Hope Carl gets a long run in the Arsenal side and given a chance to prove himself, he will improve given time, I'm not convinced Arsenal are going to make the top 4 this season with or without Carl playing.

I thought he played well vs Man U. Took stick from Walcott when Walcott wasn't covering him. Set up RVP and got sent off for covering the out of position CB.
