I suppose on the bright side, if he does get a "big" move we will still be entitled to a development fee... only a couple of months ago it was more likely that he would leave on a free out the back door - now he is being talked of highly.
Obviously I hope he stays but we have to be realists.
If he loves and respects Charlton then he should sign the contract , cream always rises to the top , he's only played a hand full of games , and if he's consistantly good enough , he'll get his big move one day.
Lets hope that the personal diatribe towards another player does not start here. His contratct is really not our business - if he has been offered something that he feels is unsuitable then he is entitled to negotiate for a better deal. You can almost guarantee that the contract was drawn up prior to his recent run in the first team and that he now feels it should be improved.....why not. As for loyalty - there is none in football and clubs are never loyal to players, lets face it.
The press conference last night gave me some concern regarding Jenkinson's future at the club.
There are over a dozen players, including captain Christian Dailly, who are out of contract in the summer. And yet, you do not see them needing time away from matchday squads to sort out their deals. Instead, they plug on and wait for those talks towards/at the end of the season.
There's something further to Carlo's situation, and I doubt it's any good news for Charlton to be honest. But that's speculation.
Erm nobody suggested Jenks didn't WANT to play. Powell is obviously pressurising the contract situation by sitting him out for a couple of matches, which is smart.
[cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]He's been with us since he was 9.
Idsay he owes us a lot - signing a contract shouldn't need a second thought
Sorry Swis, I don't buy this. There'll be a number of players who were with us since they were 9 that we have to let go. If for some reason he'd not been judged as making the grade he'd have been washed out and that'd be that. Several staff and even legends like Gritty have been victims of cuts.
He might be saying, if they were really sure about me the contract would have been done in the summer. Short career and all that, I understand why he might be reviewing his options. Of course I don't know the circumstances but I'm really all for making sure they have at least a season on the contract before they get under the spotlight.
Can't blame the lad and his agent for testing the water to see if there is a bigger club out there who are interested. Personally with his age and experience he would be better off learning his trade with us and then if he progresses and we dont then going.
If he doesn't want to play for Charlton then so be it, Solly played very well again last night and I want him to have a run in the right back position.
I doubt it’s that he “doesn’t want to play” more likely that Powell knows there are scouts in the stands sniffing around because he hasn’t signed a new deal. Leave him out for a couple of unimportant games and bring him back once he’s safely signed up to a new deal – can’t see the problem really.
For gods sake Michael sort it out!! Get shot of Francis and Macca and offer their combined salary. I think when he fills out and hopefully grows another inch, he has the makings of our centre-half and captain for years to come.
Don't let him become bitter over derisory "junior's" wages - he's showed he can mix it with senior pro's.
Have to say although I said yesterday that we have to be realists, it is a shame that a 19 year old lad who has been involved since he was 9 has said he's offski before March is out when he's contracted for another few months.
Be interesting to see where he turns up... and interesting to see if we get anything worth a mention in terms of the development fee.
As much as I think he is a good player, and one i'd love us to get contracted for a few years, now he has declined to sign......see ya Carl, we need comitted players now, and as your not bye bye!
I was told yesterday that he was in tears due to the amount of abuse he and others had to endure from our fans whilst walking down the tunnel after the daggers game.
Shame - probably his agent who can see the opportunity for a nice percentage. Can't see him in any Premier League first team for some time - would have been better staying here for another season to get established. Good luck to him and wish him well if he goes.

Should we be worrying ?
Probably.
Test for the board.
One of very few bright sparks in the last few weeks and if we can't do enough to keep him then it will be a blow.
Hopefully he can sign a deal to reward us with a sell on clause or release fee, similar to what JJ did to say thanks.
Someone is telling fibs then.
Powell has said he didn't pick him as he has "contract issues"
Obviously I hope he stays but we have to be realists.

THIS. Sadly no loyalty in footy now a days so who knows.

lol , i thought you were taking the pee
oh that's ridiculous , at that age all he should want to do is play , leave the contract bollox to someone else
jog him on we've got solly and francis

Good news Solly has signed a 2 year deal and other youngsters also have (Cousins one of them) or soon will (wonder who?).

Good riddance.
In all fairness the article states that Jenkinson has rejected a "new and significantly improved contract offer from the club".
If that is true and not painting a lovely looking picture I am not sure what more we can do?
Bless!
