People claimed we were great in the first half, we definitely weren't, we were just better than a terrible Stockport side. Second half we were a lot better though and should have buried them
But.. I'd take a performance like that over a lucky 1-1 draw.

Love Nathan Jones but it’s embarrassing how often he gets booked.0

Thought Taylor, Leaburn, T. Campbell all made a big impact. REG did well in place of Ramsay who was fantastic again and will be missed.Wonder if Taylor and Coventry can play together in that formation. Doherty seemed to be doing more of the Coventry role of collecting the ball from the back four but not doing much with it. Taylor played some great forward passes at times as well as the great set pieces. I think unless we’re in a game where we’re out of possession Doherty doesn’t offer enough. Similar thoughts on A. Campbell.
Hopefully Leaburn will be ready to start up top with Godden at least by next Saturday as he made such a difference, even if it wasn’t a perfect performance. He visibly improved Godden and others and gave those defenders a big problem.4 -
Sillybilly said:I quite enjoyed the second half after almost giving up and doing some gardening at half time. Hard to fault the effort and we should have won comfortably. However, it is clear that our stand-ins, T Taylor apart, are a downgrade so it will be important to get our best 11 on the pitch consistently. How on earth we can have a fortnight off and come back with injuries is beyond me but hey ho. If we could somehow morph TT and Coventry with the delivery of the former and the industry/nous of the latter we’d have a player! I will have a proper look when I finally get to a game next week but watching on a stream it is difficult to see what Docherty contributes. He’s invisible. Maybe I’ll think differently when I see hm in the flesh. Its been a bit of an “in” joke, but something now seriously needs to be done about S Brown. His verbal diahorea is spoiling the stream now. I watched the Stockport stream from half time as I’d had enough. What a refreshing change to actually be able to hear the odd moment or two of silence. And their views of N Jones (“ a very odd character”) were pretty accurate and not offered in any bad way. They were very complementary about the Valley and our fans. Two points dropped and our goals return continues to be lamentable but there were positives there.5

I know this next statement is aggressive but christ, we have some miserable people on here. We have found a system that works and utilises our players to the best of there abilities.
.I then get home and see us in the league table with a quarter of the season played behind the likes of Stevenage, Mansfield, Exeter, Stockport and Wycombe, whose budgets are minuscule compared to ours.
I hate this league, it’s ever increasing shithousing and limited football and I have no conviction in us getting out of it again!
Hope you have Morrissey playing in the background reading that:-)33 -
If we play like we did today every game for the rest of the season we'll be promoted.
Only negative for me was gillesphey being a total liability again when faced with any form of physical battle.6 -
I think recency bias might influence people to think that was a good performance. The first 10 were ok, but the 55 mins between their goal and ours were not. We rallied after we scored and should have won it once they went down to 10. But ultimately the only thing that matters this year is promotion and that really means decisive performances in games like this resulting in, hopefully, 3 points. Today we got neither.

Terry Taylor had a great game minus his last FK. Leaburn is a terror. T.Campbell was good and unlucky not to get a goal. Anderson is fantastic off the ball with his hassling etc but needs to work on his passing. Hope REG can kick on.

Mention to Dixon, he could be a menace.

Predictable, all day long. Plus ca change…0

Disappointing to take only one point from a game that we dominated both in possession and chances created. We should have gone in at half time at least level but a terrible defensive mix up led to their penalty, which at first sight seemed harsh. We would never have conceded that had Lloyd Jones been playing.
On the positive side, Terry Taylor played well in midfield and for the most part was much better at set pieces than Conor Coventry has been. The other real highlight was Miles Leaburn running amok and creating havoc in the opposition defence. Kaheem Dixon also did well in his brief cameo, showing guts and determination as well as the expected skill and pace.

Let's be honest - we look like the most upper mid table league 1 side there could be - we have a relatively solid defence, a workmanlike midfield, a mixed bag of a strikeforce and a manager who builds teams primarily based on workrate. I'm not complaining, i'm resigned to where we are and hope that NJ is helped to develop the team but atm we are definitely a WIP and not a promotion candidate.10

king addick said:swords_alive said:Not happy. Too much sideways and backwards until leaburn came on. Tyreece the bright spark before then and a vital player for us. Likely missing next game or more as seemed to do his hamstring in the last minute. Ramsay awesome also likely to be missing for a bit.
Docherty, A. Campbell, Godden, pretty invisible. Will be interested in how Exiled_addick's sub thread takes shape 're creativity. Fed up with the mistakes and negative play in a winnable game like that.
Think you wanna moan for the sake of moaning.2 -
We might’ve played well but we must win these games if we’re to challenge for promotion. 6th best budget means we’re underperforming being mid table, hopefully we can put a run of form together.1

Mention to Dixon, he could be a menace. So? Bad form happens, not many teams are immune to it.Oxford got promoted last season despite going through 2 wins in 9 in Oct/Nov and 1 win in 10 in Jan/Feb/Mar.
I understand people’s desperation to finally do well after back to back to back seasons of crap but I also think it’s clouding some judgement about what’s actually needed to get promoted out of this league.15 -

The over positivity is as jarring as the negativity tbh. A touch of realism required from both sides.

We have 1 win in 5 games, that's reason enough.
People are miserable during bad form and happy during good form. It's how supporting a club works.8 -

He got booked for being outside the technical area and shouting some instructions at our own players - which I think is a bit harsh. He had some exchanges with the 4th official but none of them were aggressive.4 -

Deserved the win today overall a decent performance more so in the second half
If Jones can find a way of making a Coventry, Taylor, Anderson and Berry midfield work that would solve a lot of problems (well 3 of them anyway)
Docherty and A Campbell just aren’t at the level required and we looked a lot better when they were subbed
