Yes Jones could be the manager to shoot us up the league, but that requires players at a higher quality than what we have now. Not just a 'few missing pieces'.2 -
So how does NJ's managerial record stack up ("facts" taken from Wikipedia) :
2016-19: Took Luton from L2 to L1 and left in Jan '19 with them in 2nd position
Jan-Dec 2019:Took Stoke to 16th in the Championship and avoided relegation.Brought in 10 new players and managed 2 wins in 14 and was sacked
May 2020-22: Returned to Luton in the Championship, they were still there when he left after loosing in the 2022 play offs.
Nov 22 - Feb 23: Joined Southampton in PL where they won 1 in 8 matches before he was sacked with the team bottom of the PL.
So all he has achieved is one promotion from L2 to L1 and helped stabilise Stoke and Luton and avoid relegation Quite often he makes wholesale changes to his teams at season end which does not always lead to success.
It is too early to judge him at Charlton but his record and his expected changes concern me.

No issue with people questioning Jones, I've already said what I think about the May transfer and how high risk it is but Jones' management record is strong.

Particularly when you compare it to the typical track record of managers that get hired for League One jobs. We’ve had enough of them over the past decade to know that Jones’ record is head and shoulders above what you typically end up with. Obviously past performance is no guarantee of future success, and selling May seems like a crazy crazy idea to me, but I don’t see much mileage in questioning Jones pedigree - for this level it’s very strong.Henry Irving said:

Missed the part where he stopped Charlton getting relegated in 2023/24 season.

I think any decent manager would have kept us up last season, coming in at the same time. I do think he has the potential to take us far higher than anyone else we could have got in though.

We've had a plethora of managers since Curbscwho weren't decent though. I would. When the project has been going well and the offer from a higher league has come calling, he has jumped ship. But perhaps he's learnt his lesson, as it hasn't gone well either time and in the process he's missed out on 2 promotions that he would perhaps feel that he put the building blocks in place for.FishCostaFortune said:

100%. He took a team that had just lost 7 of their last 9, leaking goals for fun - and took them on a 14 game unbeaten run.Kap10 said:

NJ has zero chance of managing in the Championship, after Stoke and Southampton he needs to prove he can manage a successful team and get them promoted.
I would not be surprised if things go sour we will sack him by Christmas9 -

A lot of what happens on the pitch (Struggling against Cray Valley etc.) seems to embarrass people on here which I find a bit over the top at times. But am genuinely surprised that the fact we've had such a turnover of Managers since Bowyer doesnt embarrass more4 -
Talk of sacking NJ is madness, we are only a handful of games into the season and whilst not playing brilliantly we are in the play off positions. Give the team a few months to bed in with miles and Edwards coming back we should improve.46

I dont think anyone is seriously wanting Jones out (at least I really hope not), but I do think there are people who are struggling to buy into the project under Nathan Jonesse9addick said:

Not surprised he's second favourite but would be surprised if Vincent Tan was willing to pay significant compensation for a manager.3
