Charlton Summer Transfer Rumours 2024

Yes they would if they were getting 1 mill for a 31 year old with one year left on his contract Simone who only cost us 250,000 12 months ago .. this is diff this is not the club selling himSmithy said:'The days of selling our best players are over'. Would any other team in this league aiming for promotion sell their best player to a promotion rival for less than £1m? We all know the answer to that question.
to raise money this is the manager making this decision that he did not fit into his style of play and May himself having personal issues so Jones and May shake hands best outcome for both5 -
Ryan Woods feels like one of those players that would have been a good signing a few years ago but has just gone off the boil completely. Definitely had the potential when he was at Brentford.1 -

Accepted an offer from him, or for him?Swisdom said:
Once we'd accepted an offer from him his mind was made up to leave so it was clearly then going to be about money. Short career and all that. If he can pick up half a million a year for a couple of years he goes a long way towards securing his future I guess.eastterrace6168 said:As per The Udders forum;
"Heard May will be on 11k a week at Birmingham, can’t compete with that, should have gotten the deal over the line sooner"...
Sounds like a good offer from Brum...if true...🤷♂️
One letter (then rearranged) can make quite a difference here!
Deathly silent on the rumour front. The club have worked hard to keep everything under wraps. I know we were keen on Etete, Ahadme, Davies. We did look at Lolos formerly of Crawley but we went off him fairly quickly.
There's a trialist over from Mount Pleasant apparently but no idea who that is
And one other mystery player who has a lot of rave reviews but who is very raw at the moment. I'm sworn to secrecy on him so as not to jeopardise anything but I wouldn't think he's necessarily lined up as a starter just yet anyway.Divin Mubama??0 -
Not sure I believe 11k a week. These kinds of rumours always do the rounds when teams lose/lose out on players to rivals - “wanted to move north”, “we couldn’t guarantee him starting every week” etc. It’s always smelt like propaganda put out by one of the unsuccessful suitors, to me, to try and appease their own fans.3

Do you really see us as promotion rivals? I can't see it myself.Smithy said:'The days of selling our best players are over'. Would any other team in this league aiming for promotion sell their best player to a promotion rival for less than £1m? We all know the answer to that question.5 -

Definitely not based on where we are right now.PopIcon said:

Bakinson off to Wycombe by the looks of things

Decent move for him. Fine as a squad player for us but we need to be signing starters to turn current first choices into squad playersMarcusH26 said:Bakinson off to Wycombe by the looks of things

I can imagine him as a Wycombe sort of player.MarcusH26 said:Bakinson off to Wycombe by the looks of things

If our recruitment has been aggressive then what is Birmingham's going to be. Looks like they will spend more than any other League One team has ever done. Not that it means they will be successful of course.6
-
Based on what posters with a good track record of being right on here have said, if he wanted to go, why keep him. Would you want an unsettled player in your dressing room every day?Smithy said:'The days of selling our best players are over'. Would any other team in this league aiming for promotion sell their best player to a promotion rival for less than £1m? We all know the answer to that question.
if we have sold him without a plan, then I’m with you0 -
Cambridge are in for Ahadme on a permanent as well3
-
Would expect an incoming or two announced around the same time as May leaving announcement.20
-
Yeah if* that's anything like accurate then I'd actually be a bit more sympathetic to the club in the circumstances. A player who gets given an opportunity like that is never going to turn it down willingly and forcing them to stay is unlikely to benefit anyone.Covered_End_Lad said:Can’t blame him, if those numbers are correct then he will clear a million pounds after tax over next 3 years. Don’t forget he has spent his whole career in the lower leagues and won’t have earned good money for most of it.
Still a real shame if does go but a bit more understandable from the perspective of both Alfie and Charlton.
*"If" being a highly operative word of course0 -
Can't see them being able to pay the sort of fee required.1
-
According to google, their record fee paid is £190,000 for steve claridge in 1992.follett said:Cambridge are in for Ahadme on a permanent as well
if Ipswich want £1m, I can’t see Cambridge being a realistic offer3 -
Very best to Alfie. Great move for him and his family. As for us…feels all too familiar. Still plenty of time to go but this isn’t quite the Chris Powell early business hoped for.3

I wouldn't.Covered_End_Lad said:Would expect an incoming or two announced around the same time as May leaving announcement.
I just don't think it works like that much as the club and fans might want it to.
We have an element of control over when May is sold, we have less over when another club will sell a player to us.

A guess, something you’ve heard or just going on what Cawley said recently?Covered_End_Lad said:Would expect an incoming or two announced around the same time as May leaving announcement.1 -

May, Dobson and CBT all sold in the space of 6 months. Are we still browsing in Waitrose?20
-
Yeah best winger, midfielder and striker - and haven’t really replaced. Maybe Berry for Dobsoncharlton_hero said:May, Dobson and CBT all sold in the space of 6 months. Are we still browsing in Waitrose?1 -
Coventry was the Dobbo replacement......1
-
The Dobson and CBT ones were crazy. Nearly offloaded our two best players whilst in a relegation battle. Whilst that was major red flags with the owners/board, at least it is Jones (supposedly) calling the shots nowcharlton_hero said:May, Dobson and CBT all sold in the space of 6 months. Can’t blame him - agreed.Covered_End_Lad said:Can’t blame him, if those numbers are correct then he will clear a million pounds after tax over next 3 years. Don’t forget he has spent his whole career in the lower leagues and won’t have earned good money for most of it.
But still think selling a guaranteed 20+ goals a season striker is a massive gamble and if that doesn’t work out I’ll certainly be blaming the SMT and Jones. And all that guff about being with his family in Yorkshire looks like a load of bollocks now.8 -
Dobson wasn't sold, CBT was only sold because he refused a contract. So that's one sold.charlton_hero said:May, Dobson and CBT all sold in the space of 6 months. Are we still browsing in Waitrose?
Inadequate contract offers to lose two players, that's a different story!!1 -
Just so we know the sort of muppets we are dealing with at crappy 'uddersfield, how about this little gem from their forum now...
"Easy solution just sign Kevin Gray up and tell him to go and snap his legs 😆"
Sour grapes or not, that is just not necessary, and totally wrong on anyone's forum...prats4
