Lots of half decent teams have either sacked or lost a manager and had to have a caretaker manager in whilst they find a replacement. The Red Robin said:
Spot on. Any half decent club has a list of head coaches they want. The next head coach should have been in the day after Appleton was sacked.LargeAddick said:I'm disappointed they haven't appointed anyone as yet and if Cawley is correct and Jones has yet to have his planned meeting this week then even more so, suggests no appointment before the weekend.
You would think that any SMT worth their salt on seeing the team not having won for say eight games would start to consider what alternatives are out there should they have to pull the trigger in three, four, five games time. In fact, they should always surely have a constantly evolving list of those who they would be interested in, whether in or out of work. Considering the position we are in then it's imperative they get someone in asap although of course they need to get the right person.
At the moment it just feels to me like they are dragging their heels.
It’s really not that unusual a process.

Most teams know who they want. Interviewing multiple candidates is pretty amateur.FishCostaFortune said:

If we don’t appoint a manager tomorrow then the owners have fucked up again. Surely they should have learned from August? We could all see that Appleton was not going to work and were calling for the sacking for weeks. They left it late and that will now impact what we can do before the window shuts
Going into deadline day twice in the same season without a manager screams incompetence0 -

It’s really not that unusual a process.A quick glance on the Huddersfield Forum, who have not got a manger the day after Moore was sacked, and they reckon they are interviewing 9 different managers.3 -
Interesting if Jones hasn't even had a second meeting this week , would be a bit worried about deadline day if nothing got formalised tomorrow.2

One of the reasons they f***d up last time because there really wasn't anyone suitable available. Whether they felt the fans would be on there back if they didn't put someone in place I don't know? But the whole thing seemed rushed and I don't think anyone was convinced about Appleton from the start, and I Include Scott in that.

It's only been a week since Appleton left, and it's not as if Nathan Jones or whoever being unveiled at The Valley today would make much difference to the last 2 days of the window anyway. I'd rather take slightly longer and make the right appointment.FishCostaFortune said:

No player is going to sign to Charlton just because of the manager, as managers come and go so quickly these days. I'm sure Holden wasn't the reason Alfie May joined us for example.4 -

Ben Reeves and Kishishev both lived in Bickely (in the roads either side of mine) when they were with the club.
You can't pop out for a pint of milk around here without bumping into a pro footballer.
It’s where he fell onto a glass coffee table and seriously injured himself…..in fact he might have died had he fallen in a different position!
There were “rumours” he was pissed at the time, I repeat “rumours.”

Interesting interview here with Jones about his time at Southampton but perhaps more telling is the last answer about what project he wants next….’to build a club on solid foundations’

Since Lee Bowyer left in 2021, excluding caretakers, our managers have lasted (including cups)....Nigel Adkins..... 7 months, 26 matchesJohnnie Jackson.... 7 months, 40 matchesBen Garner...... 6 months, 29 matchesDean Holden..... 8 months, 32 matchesMichael Appleton..... 5 months, 29 matchesIncluding caretakers, since 2014 we've had 16 managers. In a decade. That's as many managers as CAFC had in total (including caretakers) from 1967 to 2014. 47 years.3

I find the description on the various announcements less than claer as to who our board comprises.
It could be a combination of all/any of the below (I think):Managing Director: James Rodwell (Chairman)
Group Finance Director: Ed Warrick
Technical Director: Andy Scott
Non-Executive Director: Paul Elliott CBE MBE
Non-Executive Director: Gavin Carter
Sporting Director Simon Lenagan
Steve Sutherland (as member of SMT)
Doris Teacup Refreshment Distribution Director (RDD)
PLUS the 'co-owners':Co-Owners:
Gabriel Brener and family
Joshua Friedman and family
Warren Rosenfeld and family
ACA Football Partners
Munir Javeri
Charlie Methven
Marc Boyan
Wild Wayne Chickenshit III (plus friends and family and anyone else who knows him)
Eight board members. Eight co-owners. Holden appointed for eight months.
Anyone else spotted the sinister pattern emerging here?

So he has been refereed to here as Technical Adviser: https://www.charltonafc.com/news/global-football-partners-purchase-charlton-athletic
And here as Sporting Diretor: https://www.charltonafc.com/staff
Regardless who did you intend to refer to in your update?I would say it is a split on the U.K. board over Jones.
Im not being facetious I just don’t know who that set of people are in the context of deciding the manager.1 -
I am officially going mad. Last night I had a dream (nightmare) that the club announced the new manager..........Appleton. They decided there was no better options, so reappointed him. Woke up convinced this had happened 😳8

Leaks have always happened, before this group it was easier to get information I would say.. Difference is, people have already made there mind up they don't like a certain person in this group, and will always look to pick holes..Athletico Charlton said:I am not sure who feeds REAMS and Dubai (assume same person giving info to them both) but find it very odd just how much leaks from this club constantly since this mob took over. It seems incredibly amateur and just causes upset most of the time.
It's a week since Apple's was sacked, we were massively unlikely to have appointed someone by now and no one would be too disappointed, but because of the leaks there is a risk people end up that way.
It's weird and it's unprofessional imo.
Not a dig at people passing info here and elsewhere but a dig at the source of such info.
Was never going to be a quick process to appoint a new manager, and was never a plan to do so, until Burton game, and they did actually sack him that night, but back tracked, well 2 out of board did..
To be honest, those two I think were bang out of order to allow Appleton to go through Tuesday game, knowing the toxic atmosphere..8 -
Also just to clarify, there are no cracks on the board, there might be disagreements on appointments of managers or sacking managers, but that doesn't mean there are cracks or falling outs.. It is actually health to have differing opinions and ideas on the table.. And some might not agree.. But if the majority agree, they will go with it..
If you ask me, do I think they will appoint Jones,50/50 but I wouldn't write off Rowett
