    Agree, it’s ridiculous. Sure he doesn’t give a toss though, it’s points, not driver of the day awards that wins him world championships. He probably thinks it’s funny.

    The thing is, the haters can’t even claim he only wins because he’s got the best car anymore. The Red Bull is faster at the moment, but Hamilton is outdriving Verstappen. 
    I know it was a strategic victory today, but Hamilton just continues to beat him.

    He’s the best ever. No longer any doubt about it in my mind.

    I can think of one very big reason why some people dislike him, but he was head a shoulders driver of the day today. Theoretically driver of the day is always the winner anyway. I don't really get why some many people like Verstappen so much either, seems a bit of an arrogant prick to me but most F1 drivers have that side to them.

    What's been great is I think that is 4 races so far this season and we have seen the lead change, on track, in all of them. That used to be a once a season sight so really good to see it so regularly. Merc still the team to beat and getting their act together again with the car's perfomance. I hope they don't pull away from Red Bull know I want to see the close racing continue so Hamilton can show he's the best even in similar machinery.

    (I don’t think either of those are valid reasons by the way.)

    Poor call from Red Bull to not bring Max in, Horner even said it's like Hungary 2019 again on the radio, and they didn't react. 

    The reason why Hamilton and Mercedes are so hard to beat, is because of the combination of the fastest car, the bulletproof reliability, the killer instinct of Hamilton, but also the almost flawless strategy calls of Toto and the entire race strategy team

    The guy is simply the greatest ever.
    Give him any set of circumstances, time and time again, he finds a way to win.......or at the very least end up on the podium.

    What we possibly saw was a driver who is doubtful he will be with the team next season. He wouldn't have done that when he first joined, and to be fair he didn't. Mercedes need to either assure him he is very much in the hunt to be in the team as long as he doesn't repeat that nonsense, or that he will be sacked if he does that one more time. I suspect Hamilton will play it down as he likes Bottas as his team mate.

    I personally think it would be a mistake for Mercedes to lose Bottas. They need to sort today's nonsense out, but he is a good number two. Good enough to be involved but not good enough to take too many points from the team leader. You need a car involved for strategy purposes. I think good management would be to re-assure Bottas of his place in the team as long as he doesn't pull any more stunts like today.

    Even if Hamilton left, Bottas would be an attractive number two for any other top driver.

    Battling Verstappen wheel to wheel in an (IMO) nigh on equal car has cemented Hamilton’s legacy. 

    He is off the charts talent wise - and I actually believe the likes of Bottas (stunning junior CV - didn’t even need F2) and Perez are being shown up by their monumentally fast team mates.

    I think Verstappen will learn a lot off Lewis this season which will bode well for him once Lewis hangs up his race boots.

    Said it time and time again - in the top 3 of Britain’s greatest ever sportsmen.

    Probably because he’s black.
    Young, black, and successful. Any one of those three can be enough for some people’s prejudices but all three is just too much. Not saying it’s a majority of people but anyone who says it not a factor in why some people have a seemingly irrational dislike for him is being naive.

    In reality he should be a bit of a working class hero because almost every F1 driver on the last 30 years come from a background of above average wealth, but Hamilton has got to the very top on talent and not financial advantage.

    What we have to appreciate too is that Hamilton is at the twilight of his career and still at the very top. Verstappen isn't going to get slower anytime soon but Hamilton will. But it doesn't look like being this season and maybe not next either.

    Hamilton is simply the greatest F1 driver ever and I'm trying to think of a British sportsman who has even a similar record in their sport and can't. For that reason, he has to be considered our greatest ever sportsman.  

    My belief is that Hamilton and Verstappen are at similar levels, but like I said, Hamilton is 36 and Verstappen is 23. Hamilton is likely to have 8 world titles at the end of the season, with Verstappen on zero. He has years of catching up to do, great driver that he is.

    Would love to see Russell spend a season with Lewis at Mercedes, he could learn so much off him.

    I think the danger is that he would get in the way this season. Maybe next season is the season earmarked for that to happen. A season with Hamilton now could damage Russell.

    I don’t think Bottas leaving Mercedes would be their choice.....the partnership has been hugely successful and no reason to rock the boat.
    I think if he leaves it will be of his own volition.

    I'm not sure Bottas' position at Merc is so safe anymore. He keeps Hamilton and Verstappen honest in Qualifying, but when was the last time he pushed either of them close on a race day? They will regularly drop him by 10 to 30 seconds over the length of a race. Right now Red Bull have the same problem because Perez is not getting close either, but Bottas can't even really be used to disrupt Red Bull through strategy, and if he gets a slow start and finds himself stuck down the field he is not especially good at working his way back up by passing cars.

    I like Bottas and he's good for solid points every week but I think Merc might be starting to look for a bit more than he offers now. Far from closing the gap to the front two over time, I think he's actually gone, relatively, backwards. He was perfect all the time Merc were clearly the fastest team but, now Red Bull can genuinely challenge Merc, if Lewis ever drops out for reliability, or whatever, Bottas is not going to out pace Verstappen and and secure a win in Lewis's place.

    Like I say Checco still finding his feet at Red Bull keeps the pressure off him a bit, but I think this might be the year Merc moves on to someone else at the end of the season with perhaps more potential to run Lewis and Verstappen a bit closer - maybe finish 5 seconds behind instead of 15. Once he leaves Bottas will only get a midfield drive - Red Bull or Ferrari aren't going to be interested because that is really his level, there are at least 5 or 6 drivers faster than him on the grid.

    I know what you mean, but Mercedes have to start thinking about who they want to lead the team after Hamilton goes. It’s fair to say that it won’t be Bottas.
    Yes, they could sign a young, big name from another team and therefore keep Bottas on as number two, but I honestly don’t think Bottas would go for that. He’s already unhappy playing second fiddle to the best driver of all time, he’s not going to take kindly to being number two to a Sainz, Norris or LeClerc, say. So I think you’re right that it’ll be Bottas’ “decision”, but that “decision” will effectively be made by Mercedes telling him they want him to do a job he doesn’t want to do and allowing him to refuse it.

    The most obvious route for Mercedes next year is to promote Russell to Hamilton’s number two. (Wolff’s recent statements that he won’t promote him midseason might even suggest he will do next year) Give him time to learn from the master, then take the reins. Bottas should look to be number one in a different team. Whether that means swap places with Russell and go to Williams or sign for someone like Alpine or Alphatauri I don’t know. He’s been a quality number 2 and a decent driver, but he’s not an elite team number 1.

    The Turkish Grand Prix has been cancelled just six weeks after it was put on the Formula 1 calendar and replaced by a second race in Austria.

    Turkey was added to the F1 schedule on 11-13 June to replace the Canadian Grand Prix, which was cancelled because of travel restrictions in Canada.

    But Turkey has now become unworkable after being put on the UK's travel red list of high-risk countries.

    F1 will instead run a race at the Red Bull Ring on 25-27 June.

    The full caution rules and being on the lead lap is a huge deal in indycar, but unfortunately the rule meant Sato and Bourdais both held up Grosjean to the point where it cost him the race win.

    Still, 6 months after being 5 seconds away from meeting his maker, the pole and a podium in just his 3rd race will feel amazing to him

    Love the old Gulf livery. Used a lot for Le Mans cars from the 60’s onwards by Ford and Porsche but Aston Martin used it when I last went in 2008.
