Rules eased to let pubs expand beer gardens

Pubs are expected to be able to convert areas such as car parks into beer gardens to make more space for drinkers when outdoor hospitality reopens this spring.

UK Hospitality has already said pubs have been deluged with bookings for beer gardens in anticipation of reopening on 12 April - the earliest date in the government's roadmap.

Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick said rules introduced last June to make it easier to open up more outdoor space were "here to stay" for summer 2021. Outdoor socialising is believed to be considerably safer than meeting indoors during the pandemic.

It means pubs, restaurants and cafes will be allowed to serve customers in car parks or terraces using their existing seating licenses, and there will be a cheaper, quicker route to obtain a pavement licence.

The need for a planning application to put up outdoor marquees will also be removed.

Tim Martin is a massive arsehole for all kinds of reasons.
I'd rather pay double not to drink in a Spoons, which I suppose I do. At least I can take the dog into real pubs.

I have no moral backbone. £2.75 Guinness here we come

See, I hate having dogs inside a pub.
    It’s a pub not a kennel.
Fair enough in busy town pubs, but I tend to go to country pubs with big gardens and lots of space, usually weekend lunchtimes. Much rather have a well-behaved dog on its mat under the table than unsupervised shouty brats running amok.
However, I do appreciate that not all dogs are well behaved, and not all kids are monsters.

The spoons at Bromley South would be easier. A lot more outside seating I'd guess.

I wonder if eating/drinking outside whether the smoking ban will apply?

34 days and counting, you will also be able to get your Covid hair sorted as well (if you have any), although not in the pub garden

Apart from the owner being such an arse, you also have the delightful aroma of fried food to go with your Guinness.  It's like drinking in a greasy spoon.

Booked an afternoon slot at the Kings Arms, Bexleyheath terrace for 14th April.

Please let the weather be kind.

They've covered the whole terrace now! Guess they can't take the risk that a bit of rain will destroy a day's takings

They always had some tables and chairs out the front for the smokers. Now safely inside so they don't go Walkabout!

I know the landlord Pete. Really top bloke and he’s done wonders with that pub. The food in there is great as well.

I haven't been to a pub since lockdown 1. In fact I think the last time I had a drink in the 'outside world' was at the end of Feb 20. I didn't go when they were open later in 2020 because I just didn't feel safe. Actually I haven't had a take away for the same time and reason. So.... now I've had my first jab (about 3 weeks ago) how safe will it be?
(I've not stopped drinking during this phase - far from it - just from the comfort of my woman shed)

Honestly, it’s not really the same as it was before. I’ve been going to the pub when they’ve been open (and already have about 10 bookings for the first two weeks of April!) but having to book a table before, limited capacity, ordering in an App instead of at the bar, remembering to put your face mask on if you want to go to the toilet all sucks a bit of the life out of it.

That being said, it’s significantly better than the pubs not being open and I can wait, after June the population should be vaccinated to an extent that most restrictions should be lifted.
