Summer Transfer Rumours 2020 (DEADLINE DAY from pg.258)

He took that risk last summer and got a deal late on with us.Chris_from_Sidcup said:
Matthews is a free agent, he can sign for a club whenever, it doesn't have to be by the end of the window.DOUCHER said:Matthews will go if he gets offered better terms by another club by end of window. Doughty will go if we get offered the money we want by the end of the window -either way, we are going to have a crack at promotion and we have to trust Gallen and Bowyer to know the players that can do that for us. They've done it once, they can do it again.
Although i'd assume it's in his interest to sign for someone sooner rather than later, as clubs will simply sign other options instead of waiting for him.
Quite possible he'll try again but a bigger risk given the impact of Covid19 on squad size and wages.2 -

I certainly get the impression from those comments that Bowyer wasn't a huge fan of Bonne & like a few on here, he obviously thinks it's a great deal & can use the money to improve the squad.ForeverAddickted said:_MrDick said:SwingForward said:Ben Johnson from West Ham on loan at RB looks likely now.
Interesting as those comments are quite unlike Bowyer
Bowyer like a player with good 1st touch, quick feet and able to pass and move.0 -
I don't get that as a business we couldn't refuse 2m. Surely Thomas could have said no.ForeverAddickted said:3 -

I’m going to have to give you a whoosh, @Richard J I’m afraid ... Ben Johnson, the athlete, failed a drugs test ... That went right over your head 😂😂Richard J said:

I presume that is a no deal now despite Bowyer's public comments.
I was responding to @SwingForward's comment as it goes against what Bow said yesterday0 -
No he signed for them. He's still a couple of weeks away from returning from the injury he got with us though.JohnfromNorfolk said:

posting whilst not knowing what we want for Doughty but I hope it's substantial like 6m, although of course if he won't sign a new contract perhaps it's wise to cash in now which would be a shame. I'd hoped to have been reading by now that he's signing a new long term deal with us.DOUCHER said:Matthews will go if he gets offered better terms by another club by end of window. In all the excitement of the take over I obviously missed that.eastterrace6168 said:
Is the contract offer for Phillips still on the table, i got the impressionJohnfromNorfolk said:Just wonder if the takeover has not done Dill. Phillips any favours.
We're not in need of cash now, so do not need to sell him.
Maybe he's waiting to see if a championship comes along and if not will sign his contract offer from the club.
If I were Bows I'd want him to show a bit more commitment to the club and help us to win promotion.
I'd be a rotten sod and threaten to withdraw his contract offer, forcing him (or his agent) to find a club or spend the next season not playing while his contract is winding down.
But then that's why I'm not a football manager and Bows is.
that Bow had lost patience with him and his waster agent and told him
he could go?0 -
Interpret it to mean we couldn't refuse £2m as it was too good an offer for Bonne (ie. Bowyer essentially implying we got more than he is probably worth), rather than we couldn't refuse due to any pressing financial/business reasons.LargeAddick said:

From a business point of view though its a great deal. 1.8m profit within 12 months on a 200k spend. If a player wants to leave and you think you can spend the 2mil better elsewhere its a no brainer.LargeAddick said:

I'm not sure we have got such a good deal there. strikers under 25 with 1 in 3 records in the championship go for around 10m. I really liked bonne, and he will do well I think.. the 1 thing perhaps against him is a bit of a lack of pace..1
-
And his first touch is also lacking.superclive said:I'm not sure we have got such a good deal there. strikers under 25 with 1 in 3 records in the championship go for around 10m. I really liked bonne, and he will do well I think.. the 1 thing perhaps against him is a bit of a lack of pace..0 -

Is it off?flyingkiwiDK said:Re Schwartz. I’ve been told it’s all about the scheduling of payments. Initially I heard that his Danish club wanted to loan him for a fee but then accepted a bid. Player agreed terms but then the nitty gritty of the deal has broken down. I’m fairly confident that’s correct.5 -
The problem is that we can only see half the deal. Steve and Bows are not stupid so we can assume they know what they can achieve with that £2m and a space in the squad.superclive said:I'm not sure we have got such a good deal there. strikers under 25 with 1 in 3 records in the championship go for around 10m. I liked Bonne as well.
I’m hoping I like his replacement even more.4 -
Hopefully with the pressure on going into the last days of the window, Schwartz forces the move. Is the 6th the deadline for all European transfers too? In case he has a backup to go elsewhere on the continent0
-
It strikes me that Bows and Gallen didn't think that he would suit the way that they wanted to play this year. In the past couple of games he certainly hasn't looked like a guy who was sharp and going to bang them in on a regular basis, although how much of that is his agent blowing in his ear telling him this is his way into the premiership.....Redrobo said:

His 1 in 3 record in The Championship was over 1 season. Do it over 3 or 4 and then you might go for £10m.superclive said:I'm not sure we have got such a good deal there. strikers under 25 with 1 in 3 records in the championship go for around 10m. And pace is the main attribute you want as a striker if you aren't a Magennis or a Carroll.6 -

Schwartz has not just fallen through today. Been problems with the deal for more than a week at least. It’s not completely dead as understand it and could be resurrected but at present it’s not happening.BigRedEvil said:Only at Charlton would we sell our top scorer and his potential replacement falls through on the same day2 -

I take that as we couldn’t refuse a bid that was well above our own valuation.LargeAddick said:

He definitely could have said no. But Bowyer and Gallen obviously felt it was good business. Bonne did ask to go as well. Only time will tell if it was the right thing for all parties concerned - I certainly think we got the better end of the deal.LargeAddick said:

I agree, however super Clive and Andy hunt were not known for pace. I think here it was more a case of him pushing for it and us holding out for as much as possiblesuperclive said:I'm not sure we have got such a good deal there. strikers under 25 with 1 in 3 records in the championship go for around 10m. I think it was LB who said last year that you get quoted 1m when you enquire about National League strikers.1 -

Nice guy, decent forward, but he really wasn't looking like setting the World on fire for us.
Wish him well at QPR, hope he scores a few and is seen as a perfect replacement for Benteke at Palarse who pay £30m for him, giving us a tidy sell on.2 -
QPR fans sites seem to think the fee was £700K upfront with rest linked to performance.blackpool72 said:

This site is a credible one and makes no mention of a figure of £700K - https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/53018/Athletico Charlton said:

"The South London Press report the fee as high as £2m, though that would presumably involve a lot of clauses and add-ons ....."
I guess that £700K could be a first instalment but the guaranteed figure will surely be substantially more than that.0 -
