This goes some way to understanding why the EFL investigation at Wigan went the way it did:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/aug/16/wigans-former-owner-kay-asked-about-administration-before-his-takeover
This is the kind of freak show football is becoming - all down to greed and avarice. What a f***ing mess.0 -

How much money were Wigan losing a year?
Give that they'd have finished mid-table without the deduction, surely he'd have lost less than £36m by finishing the season, keeping the squad together and then trying to sell them normally.
This surely only goes to show it's been dodgy from the start.0 -

If true, that is truly appalling.

Serious allegations, but the situation at Wigan is terrible when a month ago I imagine a lot of people extended the new owners to take over quickly.0

I fear for Wigan, a week to sort things out if the Admistrators deadline is to be believed0

What is the administrators main job?
I'd assumed it was to save the football club and find a reputable buyer?
But from that article it seems as if their main aim is to make as much money as possible.1 -

The stadium and training ground are surely worth more as football assets than as land?
Land is cheap in Wigan, the DW stadium is on a retail park, a sector dying on its arse1 -

Also I thought one of TS's astute insights was knowing that Wigan is mainly a RL town. I still regard Preston as a bigger club because it is a football city.0 -
I see Whelan has sold DW to Ashley... 👀0

So the football club will therefore have to rent it off him.0 -

Poor old training ground being used for pass the parcel in the North West.

That Euxton training ground is roughly midway between the 3 clubs (Bolton, Wigan and Preston)
Most other clubs that have gone into administration (Palace, Soton etc) seems to have come out of it smelling of roses, ready to bounce straight back, whereas for Wigan it's been agony for their fans, with one bit of bad news following another3 -

Madness that this has been allowed to happen to multiple clubs1
