Serously though, it's days like this that make me love and hate being a Charlton fan. It's the hope that kills you.5

I see......sell any decent players in the squad.cafcnick1992 said:

Charlton's attendance next season is not going to be much higher than that especially with the boycott. As home attendance is more than 90% of football income in this league how is Charlton's budget going to be significantly bigger than Northampton's without infringing FFP?

Alan Knill - have a look at the managerial part. Seems hes met Katrien already. I shouldn't laugh but couldn't help myself.

Must drive him nuts when people ask him about it.20 -

I'd be happy but surprised. Especially after what I was told at the weekend and who he spoke to to canvass opinion. They either didn't tell him exactly how bad it is or he has ignored it and decided to talk to them, not for the first time. Still might turn it down.1

Wanna bet?Henry Irving said:
“We had already begun discussions about much improved new deals, but I think it is fair to say we would not be able to match both the salary and the playing budget for next season that a club the size of Charlton could offer.
I don't think they realise that Roly only pays 2 bob an hour.0 -
Seems an odd dynamic that Wilder joined Knill as assistant manager then a few years later Knill is the assistant.1
-
What a club in decline we are, People excited about us getting the Northampton town manager in.Until these Belgian C**** fuck off, we could have Timmy Mallett with Fergie as his assistant , it wouldnt make a jot of difference. I hope Wilder turns us down.20

Money talks I suppose. If/when he quits early he'll get a payout.
God knows what's actually happening but you can bet it will be a confused approach0 -
Clearly, you haven't met Roland, Katrien and big Tony!NTFC said:You need to read the statement CW, is obviously keen to go to you lot.
We cannot compete with the budget that you will have compared to us. I can guarantee you this much expect to see a lot of players go, he overturned our squad within 12 months.
If he has money to spend, with a big budget I do not see how you wont do well next season.0 - Sponsored links:

Haha great quote on the BBC link. " all of a sudden, I thought I'm not alive" bit of a hint there Alan, you thought it so you must have been.ricky_otto said:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Knill

Ok, so he has English experience, even played for the club. But can someone tell me why we'd want a head coach without 5-a-side, indoor experience???13

Wouldn't be the first or last time that an unofficial approach via agents etc to see if a deal can be done is followed up with an official approach.Airman Brown said:
I'd be surprised if he's been to Belgium without sanction from NTFC, but there's no doubt at all that he had been approached last week.ShootersHillGuru said:

Not quite. TalkShite saying that CW and Duchatelet had meet with assurances being given blah blah. Seems that nothing other than permission has been given by Northampton. Feel even more inclined to believe that once he's spoken with our visionary he'll tell us to jog on.
Would suggest that CW is keen and knows the T & Cs already.
Not saying that is right or proper but we can't say that this lot are the only ones to do it.2 -

Apologies if this has already been posted

I agree with that. I'm just pointing out that it's part of the background and may be why Northampton wanted a statement out there to manage their fans' expectations. You can't imagine Charlton wanting to make a statement with the possibility that it will leave them looking stupid. Again.Henry Irving said:

Fear that this appointment will have the exact effect the club want it to - to disperse The protests and 'get people back on side' ...
Back to happy clappy Charlton fans mp doubt4 -
If Wilder is given full control then I think we should cut the board some slack9
-
I'd be intrigued to know who within the club decided upon this approach as I can't imagine KM or RD suggesting it, Murray? Unless Mandy has been promoted, and let's face it she deserves it4

The Onion now reporting on this: Charlton granted permission to blow smoke up Northampton Manger's arse and outright lie about degree of control over recruitment strategy18
-
Our opinion of them couldn't get any lower than it already is. I suspect they think that the positive PR of being seen to pursue a British manager selected on merit outweighs the negative PR of having their approach turned down, and they are probably right. Already a couple of people on here saying that if he get's rid of Katrien and signs some decent players for the new manager then maybe Roland can turn things round. Short memories if you ask me.Airman Brown said:

We weren't "happy clappy" in the first place and aren't now.4 -
Maybe he wants an assurance that when Roland sacks him he'll get a job elsewhere in the Network.8
-
When have Roland and Co ever told the truth?
They will make all the right noises, but then turn round and do the exact opposite of what they have said.
Try as I might, and I hope I'm wrong, but this does not feel like the right move for anyone.
