NTFC 2:41PM The rumors are true Not quite. TalkShite saying that CW and Duchatelet had meet with assurances being given blah blah. Seems that nothing other than permission has been given by Northampton. Feel even more inclined to believe that once he's spoken with our visionary he'll tell us to jog on.
I'd be surprised if he's been to Belgium without sanction from NTFC, but there's no doubt at all that he had been approached last week.
Wouldn't be the first or last time that an unofficial approach via agents etc to see if a deal can be done is followed up with an official approach.
Would suggest that CW is keen and knows the T & Cs already.
Not saying that is right or proper but we can't say that this lot are the only ones to do it.
You can't imagine Charlton wanting to make a statement with the possibility that it will leave them looking stupid. Again.
Our opinion of them couldn't get any lower than it already is. I suspect they think that the positive PR of being seen to pursue a British manager selected on merit outweighs the negative PR of having their approach turned down, and they are probably right. Already a couple of people on here saying that if he get's rid of Katrien and signs some decent players for the new manager then maybe Roland can turn things round. Short memories if you ask me.
It still looks to me as a PR stunt, they know Wilder will not agree to their terms and they'll appoint Vignjevic putting out a statement that they tried for a Brit but it didn't work out.
I want to believe this story, I do, but past form tells me that it's merely a smokescreen.
Fear that this appointment will have the exact effect the club want it to - to disperse The protests and 'get people back on side' ... Back to happy clappy Charlton fans mp doubt
Yes, I'm going to stop all protests and complaining on the back of this appointment if it happens ; - (
We weren't "happy clappy" in the first place and aren't now.
I won't be letting up , and I know/hope a good proportion of other won't give up ... However I know that this appointment of a 'British manager' whilst keep being told "he has full control over players etc" will cause many to go out and buy their new season tickets as well as stop protesting! It's the only reason he's been approached!
In regards to never been "happy clappy" , there were certainly no harsh feelings the summer Bob Peeters got the job as well as the influx of players coming in!
Protests and statements from CARD need to set out that one swallow doesn't make a summer to so speak - Roland needs to be got rid of , let's not let wilder be a set back to many
This appointment by no way gets me or I'd hope any fans back on side. Whether Roland thinks the fans will suddenly have a change of heart or not I'm pretty sure we'll see some big changes in the next few months now that the reality of league 1 has sunk in. The damage done by the statements etc cannot he undone by a promotion or even 2. I just hope he has a good go at it this season, gets us up then tries to recoup as much as he can back in the champ when he sells. Just want to add that I see Wilder as a very good appointment, decent style of play, experience in England and even familiar with the club to an extent. If there was a takeover and we got him I'd still be pleased. Don't even see him as the best of a bad bunch as we have with the puppets.
I like his down to earth attitude and has a great work ethic. Apparently he still lives in Sheffield and drives down to Northampton every day. I would imagine he'd have to move if he takes the job, which could be another deciding factor.
I am uneasy. Why would Duchatalet, a control freak, suddenly decide he was wrong and give a new manager complete control over the side and transfer signings? And where would this leave Squirrel Face whose sole purpose seems to be to flirt with agents and make shite signings? Riga's parting shot makes clear that nothing has changed in his time, so why now?
If true, it would seem to be good news, but this will not change my determination to get Duchatalet to sell. I hope fans cannot be bought off by more promises and a decent appointment. The malaise runs much deeper.
If we get him, it is a step in the right direction. The lack of season ticket sales and the other protests have clearly had an impact. If we then go and strengthen in the summer with british-based players with experience of the championship/league 1, then I think the board are finally starting to learn from their mistakes.
Northampton's home gate towards the end of this season has been between 5,000 and 7,000. Charlton's attendance next season is not going to be much higher than that especially with the boycott. As home attendance is more than 90% of football income in this league how is Charlton's budget going to be significantly bigger than Northampton's without infringing FFP?
Transfer income will be a lot bigger. I've heard that it's going to be an interesting summer with a complete overhaul of the squad.

In this case T & Cs doesn't mean Terms & Conditions ...
I don't think it's a PR stunt, but I am very sceptical about it working because I don't think the Belgians will allow it to work in practice.
I've been hearing for the last couple of weeks that they will go all out to get out of League One, because RD realises he's screwed the club's value by getting relegated, but even if they did that and it worked I wouldn't trust RD not to revert to type on promotion. That seems to be what he did at STVV.
I'd be more comfortable having a British management team that would be better placed to stand up to him than another one of his mates from Belgium. But it's not of itself enough to stop the protests.

I have heard a rumour that Wilder is insisting on bringing his own management team of Alan Knill and three others. Looks like we'll be getting used to three-Knill next season.

Interesting insight, it does make me feel a bit more relaxed about it. I still think that RD will not be able to let go and allow any British manager the freedom they would require.

Interesting read.

Fact that #cafc now got permission to speak to Wilder means deal is done in principle.
Said before that #cafc want this role filled first and then others set to follow.
