Question for the press to ask if Wilder takes the job: will the new chief scout/head of recruitment, assuming one is ever appointed, report to Wilder or to Katrien Meire?
That would be my second question. The first would be 'what the f*** are you doing'
I hope they bring someone like this in but I cannot believe suddenly RD is going to give all football control to someone else. It ain't gonna happen whatever he says, he's a massive control freak and nutjob! Wilder will be gone before Christmas after getting pissed off with the interference. Probably sue them for breach of contract. Feeling positive today!
We want a quick decision so that if we have to, we can begin the process of finding a new manager in good time" Kelvin Thomas
Northampton Town Football Club can confirm that this morning the club received an official approach from Charlton Athletic Football Club for the services of Manager Chris Wilder and Assistant Manager Alan Knill.
Due to release clauses in their existing contracts, the club have regrettably given permission for talks to take place.
Chairman Kelvin Thomas said, "As is common knowledge I have an excellent relationship with both Chris and Alan, and we as a club and myself personally would obviously be very sorry to see them go.
“We had already begun discussions about much improved new deals, but I think it is fair to say we would not be able to match both the salary and the playing budget for next season that a club the size of Charlton could offer.
"We have known for a while that Chris and Alan would be targets due to the fantastic success they have achieved, and together we have already turned down some interest from other clubs, but after discussions this morning I respect their decision to meet Charlton."
Chris Wilder added, "My relationship with the Chairman and the fans is going to make this a very difficult decision, but I do feel at this stage of my career it is one I need to explore.”
Kelvin Thomas continued, “One of the things that we have discussed with both Charlton and Chris is that we want a quick decision so that if we have to, we can begin the process of finding a new manager in good time. We have a very strong, stable club with an excellent group of players, and it will be a very attractive job.”
Hey, Northampton Chairman, Karel Freaye and Guy Luzon are available ; - )
Amazing what an open and honest bit of communication looks like. Good luck Cobblers regardless of Wilder's decision. Your Chairman sounds like someone who cares what fans think and wants the best for his club.
An Oxford fan told me: 'if you get Wilder then prepare for dull but effective football. He is the lower league Sam Allardyce but often rude rather than amusing in interviews....& he blames the fans when things don't go his way!'
Should fit in perfectly with the current fan & club divide!
You need to read the statement CW, is obviously keen to go to you lot.
We cannot compete with the budget that you will have compared to us. I can guarantee you this much expect to see a lot of players go, he overturned our squad within 12 months.
If he has money to spend, with a big budget I do not see how you wont do well next season.
Someone hasn't been paying attention to events in SE7 recently ...
As others have said, you'd have to be mad to get yourself involved in this shambles, especially at a time in your career where your value is at its peak (to date). How attractive can the salary be? Would 6-9months (which given their track record is the most you could plan for at this stage) really be enough to make this worthwhile? even with any 'guaranteed' change in direction in terms of authority over transfers, who plays etc, the place is a circus and there'll be a hundred and one other decisions that they'll inevitably cock-up. The only appeal I can see is that if it goes pear shaped through the manager doing a bad job, there's a get out in terms blaming the regime that no one would likely argue with. Not a great reason to take on a new job though!
NTFC 2:41PM The rumors are true Not quite. TalkShite saying that CW and Duchatelet had meet with assurances being given blah blah. Seems that nothing other than permission has been given by Northampton. Feel even more inclined to believe that once he's spoken with our visionary he'll tell us to jog on.

A good question. In my mind both Wilder and the Chief Scout would report to a Director of Football (assuming we ever appoint one), who would in turn report to the CEO. As mentioned elsewhere on the thread I'm a fan of the "continental" method where scouting, recruitment, and coaching have some degrees of separation to provide a checks and balances method.

He'll have done very well to have met Roly in London. No doubt he has met him at Sint Truiden's ground. "And in 3 months Chris you will be sitting in the dug out over there"

TBH, we already expect to see a lot of players go; unfortunately, not the ones we want to see go.

I'd be surprised if he's been to Belgium without sanction from NTFC, but there's no doubt at all that he had been approached last week.
Ditto Large. I wonder why he would ask for such advice and then not take it based on promises from a man with RD's record. Money, possibly.
He'd be a decent appointment in my opinion, but Meire has to be got out of the way completely or they will just revert to type sooner rather than later.
Because he has been told we will have new owners shortly? Wishful thinking on my part probably.
Anyway it shows how far this club has been run down if we are now getting excited over poaching a Cobblers manager. It maybe disrespectful to Northampton but I think we should be aiming a little higher. I couldn't care less if he was English or not.
Northampton team would have seen us off last year - especially before March.
Didn't Duchatelet promise Gudmundson that he would recruit players that would get us into the premiership if he signed a new contract? JBG got sold a lemon by Roly/Katrien so I expect those two are lying through their teeth to Chris Wilder as I type this.
Judging by the interview with the Northampton chairman he is resigned to it. Chris Wilder is going to have to be crystal clear towards the fans about the basis of this appointment from the first minute.
The problem is, how can you be critical of the regime that gives you the job?
I suppose I am saying that if Wilder isn't overtly critical, in detail, then I will view him with suspicion.
He may say what's done is done, fresh start and all that, but if he is taking a job that has been a series of car crashes without knowing the score he is heading for disaster. If he knows the problems then he needs to start convincing a fan like me that he knows the score, or how will I be able to know if he is going to do things completely and utterly differently?
One way is to start by announcing Chris Wilder's choice of Head Scout, one he has worked with for many years past.
I wish him and Alan Knill well if they constantly resist the interference from above. If they are ruckers then we may have a way out, but if they are floppers we are doomed to more crap.
Can we actually see this getting over the line? Is it going to be another James Henry situation? All talk > offer him some crap deal > don't get him > bring in hungarian indoor football champion.
They have approached for the AM as well, this just seems way too out of character for this shower of shite...
Northampton's home gate towards the end of this season has been between 5,000 and 7,000. Charlton's attendance next season is not going to be much higher than that especially with the boycott. As home attendance is more than 90% of football income in this league how is Charlton's budget going to be significantly bigger than Northampton's without infringing FFP?

Very good question. Let's hope Chris Wilder asks it

But the gloss will be taken off if he is appointed as "Head Coach" rather than "Manager".
Let the manager manage. Let him bring in the men who are used to the cuts and bruises of the championship, leagues 1 & 2
