Reasons why this is quite possibly total bollocks 1 It's on Talksport 2 Roly giving full control of team selection to the Manager. 3 Season ticket sales on the disappointing side. 4 Sponsors thin on the ground for next season. 5 It's a Colin1961 thread.
The last bit made me laugh.
As for whether RD has learned his lesson or not, we can't tell at the moment. It took us almost two years to see what kind of man he really was, what a poor regime this was so I doubt we'll be able to work out any time soon if he intends to change or has changed his 'visions' and approach fundamentally. And to be honest I don't think he will.
Best news and probably the best thing Roland has done.
I wonder who advised him, this is great news.
Clearly, Wilder wouldn't come without cast iron guarantees in his contract.
It could mean that we may be able to keep one or two of our better players too. If the club don't keep their side of the deal Wilder will be off but maybe Roland would be willing to stand back if it means Charlton can get back to the Championship and raise the value of the club.
I hope he enjoyed his meeting with RD because it will most likely be the last time he lays eyes on him. All communication from now on will be through Katrien, and most answers will be "no".
Ditto Large. I wonder why he would ask for such advice and then not take it based on promises from a man with RD's record. Money, possibly.
He'd be a decent appointment in my opinion, but Meire has to be got out of the way completely or they will just revert to type sooner rather than later.
Because he has been told we will have new owners shortly? Wishful thinking on my part probably.
Anyway it shows how far this club has been run down if we are now getting excited over poaching a Cobblers manager. It maybe disrespectful to Northampton but I think we should be aiming a little higher. I couldn't care less if he was English or not.
No manager is going to take a job on in the certain knowledge that new owners are arriving unless they are only looking for a few months work and/or having their contract paid up. How often do new owners keep the same manager?
I guess Wilder could be looking at the job in fours ways.
(1) He accepts and is a success, seeing that Charlton are such a mess it'll quickly increase his reputation for furthering his career.
(2) He accepts and gets the sacked... No one will be surprised because of Roland's habit of sacking Managers so Wilder will be just another name, because of his his reputation shouldnt get damaged too badly.
(3) He stays @ Northampton and footballing people question his ambition to go for bigger, more challenging jobs
(4) He stays @ Northampton and the Footballing world back him acknowleding he was crazy to think about the move in the first place.
This just doesn't make sense. I can't believe anyone of reasonable pedigree and currently in employment would even pick up the phone to Roland. He's either completely insane, or he's just just planning to sue for constructive dismissal as soon as Roland phones up to ask why Jan Van Der Toiletschitt isn't getting a game.
Who at Charlton would even have the ability to identify Wilder as someone who we should target? Certainly not Roland, Katrien even less so, and definitely not any of the other cretins on the senior management team.
Everyone has a price, and perhaps Duchatelet has put together a decent financial package. Of course, words are hollow and, as we've seen only too often, Duchatelet, Meire and Murray cannot be trusted. Yet, if Wilder did become manager, what has he to lose? He would inherit a team on an alarming decline. If he could halt the decline, his reputation would be enhanced. If unable to arrest the decline, he could walk away citing unsolvable issues and broken promises. No-one would doubt that to be true given the wide media exposure of the protests since last November, and the number of coaches employed over the previous 30 months. And there will always be a club willing to offer him another opportunity. Personally, I don't believe he will take the job on. But despite all the issues surrounding CAFC, there are a large number of ex-managers around who would willingly give it a go - even if the cards are stacked against them. Better to be in work, than not.
Think that's the point. What's the downside for him, he can claim constructive dismissal if Roly doesn't stick to his promise and leave with his head held high and no blot on his cv.
Unlike Riga who needs to keep his options open on another network job, I think Wilder would say exactly why he can't work with the owner.
Another theory according to Northampton sites is that he may be eyeing up the Nottingham Forest job. Could be another Billy Davies situation where he just used Charlton to catch interest of other clubs and show that he was looking.
I'm not saying Wilder will come or that Roland has fundamentally changed. What I am saying is that should Wilder decide to come then it will indicate a realisation by the owner that things need to be different and what has gone in before has failed.
I'm not convinced by all the conspiracy stuff that Roland doesn't care what division we're in. It's much harder in every aspect of the club in league one. I think he wants promotion and now sees a British manager with a certain amount of autonomy as the best way of achieving that.
In Wilder we can clearly see a man that speaks his mind and won't suffer interference for too long.
By every measure the RD tenure has been a disaster. He's not so stupid as to not realise that too. I think we might see a change in policy. If we don't then it certainly proves beyond any doubt RD is away with the Smurfs.
Having said all that. I am still waiting until it's on the OS.
To be fair you see it all the time, people see the jump in finances etc as too good to turn down. Only need to look at Leeds (obviously they are bigger than us) but I guess managers have the ego to believe they can be the one who turns it round with a bigger transfer budget.
Would still be sceptical but at least it's a step I guess.
Having read up on Chris Wilder's managerial background, him coming to us, makes more and more sense. He has managed in non league football through out most of his career, and has never managed higher than league 2, although that changes when the new season kicks off.
Chris tends to have good long stints at clubs, 6 years each at Alfreton, Halfiax and Oxford.
Having managed for so long in the lower leagues, and having a couple of seasons managing in the football league, despite our ownership, this would be a massive move for Chris in his development as a manager, which is why I think he may overlook the troubled ownership, and if it doesn't work out, he will still have a good standing in the game, as everyone is aware of the ownership problems.

there will be other jobs available soon too, Leeds probably and a few others

The only thing that would convince me that RD has changed for the better would be if he first sacked KM and appointed someone with proven competence as her replacement.
Not one part of me can even begin to understand why he would want to come here. He's what we've asked for, so I wouldn't be disappointed, but I hope he's done his homework.
Our problems are rooted much deeper than the appointment of a British Manager and with players, sponsers and fans fighting the regime, it's an enormous task he's potentially taking on.

Manager Of The Month - not an award but a job description

He was only in the job for a few weeks for heaven's sake!
