  • Why would Wilder want anything to do with us the way the club is being run atm?!?!
  • If Wilder takes us on, without first having spoken to Chris Powell, Alex Dyer, Damien Matthew or Jose Riga, then when the inevitable happens in a few months time, he can have no excuses.
  • I suggest Mr Wilder looks at the back catalogue of 'things the Belgians have said' during their tenure.

Not a shred of truth anywhere!
  • If he comes in he needs to start with a public statement clearly stating why club policy has been a total disaster under this regime. This must include a statement that says player churn, and the utilising of Academy players will always come second to chasing first team success.
It would be reasonable to allude to the obvious fact that money is not unlimited, but that most managers realise and deal with that.
Wilder should also state a clear timeline regarding settling the squad, and his scouting and coaching staff.
He should also say that whatever the quality of his final squad, no other squad will be fitter than his one.
  • Just needs to look at Saturday's banner and he'll get the idea

  • Would be an excellent appointment but can't see why he'd want to join us
  • If the board appoint Wilder and let him buy and sell players - well then fair play to the board. You're management thus far has been a total disgrace but at least you've made a serious step in correcting the damage.
  • I think @Large might have this one nailed - unfortunately.

I'm not going to say who gave me this information but I trust them 100% and Wilder spoke to ex-Charlton people that he already knew and trusted and they told him to steer well clear for the good of his career. As I say things may have changed in the last 48 hours but I'd be surprised.
And this will be the ongoing problem. It's going to be much harder to appoint a Brit than either Meire or Duchatelet think.
  • All great if true. But deep down, my honest view is that if he signs, he'll probably walk before the new season kicks off.

    Exactly what my thoughts are.

There are so many stories and half-truths whirling about Charlton these days its hard to know what to believe.

I take this Wilder business with a massive pinch of salt. Duchatelet seems to have severe trust issues with who he employs and who he listens too. He doesn't trust anybody else to spend his money and only wants people he can trust to sit down, shut up and do as they are told. He misplaces trust in his anonymous laptop wankers with regards to player selection and has only ever indulged his coaches with their own players very rarely.

What Damascene conversion has Duchatelet undergone to place his trust in a man he never would have heard of two weeks ago. Has Wilder been promised full autonomy over recruitment as well as coaching, scouting and medical staff? Has Wilder been promised a lavish (even by League One standards) budget? Has he been offered a contract longer than 2 years? On past evidence I can't see Duchatelet doing any of these things for a (non-Belgian!) man he has never even met.

I bet the tight-fisted old git has even considered not appointing a new manager until July just to save on salary!

So RD has full trust in the people who have recommended players to him for this club over the last 2 years, I would rather have trust in no-one if they cost me as much money as they have cost him

Everything pointing to Chris Wilder taking #cafc job. Club also looking to move quickly.

You can't fault his loyalty anyway! He has stuck with Katrien Meire and his nameless Youtube jockeys despite all evidence of their desperate incompetence. If you're not in with him, you're out pretty quick though. Just ask any of Charlton's last 5 managers.
  • The new Mel Baroni.
  • Ditto Large. I wonder why he would ask for such advice and then not take it based on promises from a man with RD's record. Money, possibly.

He'd be a decent appointment in my opinion, but Meire has to be got out of the way completely or they will just revert to type sooner rather than later.

Because he has been told we will have new owners shortly? Wishful thinking on my part probably.

Anyway it shows how far this club has been run down if we are now getting excited over poaching a Cobblers manager. It maybe disrespectful to Northampton but I think we should be aiming a little higher. I couldn't care less if he was English or not.
No manager is going to take a job on in the certain knowledge that new owners are arriving unless they are only looking for a few months work and/or having their contract paid up. How often do new owners keep the same manager?
  • Roland confirms he will give full control to manager. Asked what if he disagrees with manager Roland says as a famous manager once said "We talk about it for 20 minutes and then we decide I was right"
