I'm not going to say who gave me this information but I trust them 100% and Wilder spoke to ex-Charlton people that he already knew and trusted and they told him to steer well clear for the good of his career. As I say things may have changed in the last 48 hours but I'd be surprised.ShootersHillGuru said:I think @Large might have this one nailed - unfortunately.

Why would Wilder want anything to do with us the way the club is being run atm?!?!3
-
If Wilder takes us on, without first having spoken to Chris Powell, Alex Dyer, Damien Matthew or Jose Riga, then when the inevitable happens in a few months time, he can have no excuses.3
-
I just want the bastard to sell up, and let new owners appoint the next manager.5
-
Ditto Large. I wonder why he would ask for such advice and then not take it based on promises from a man with RD's record. Money, possibly.
He'd be a decent appointment in my opinion, but Meire has to be got out of the way completely or they will just revert to type sooner rather than later.12 -
I suggest Mr Wilder looks at the back catalogue of 'things the Belgians have said' during their tenure.
Not a shred of truth anywhere!1 -
If he comes in he needs to start with a public statement clearly stating why club policy has been a total disaster under this regime. This must include a statement that says player churn, and the utilising of Academy players will always come second to chasing first team success.
It would be reasonable to allude to the obvious fact that money is not unlimited, but that most managers realise and deal with that.
Wilder should also state a clear timeline regarding settling the squad, and his scouting and coaching staff.
He should also say that whatever the quality of his final squad, no other squad will be fitter than his one.

Just needs to look at Saturday's banner and he'll get the idea1

'Full control over transfers'
I remember my first date with my ex girlfriend and when it came to ordering the wine I said she could choose. When she asked if I wanted white I said nope, when she then said Rose I also said nope. So we eventually settled on red wine anyway. I have a feeling that's what RD's full control would be like.12 -

Would be an excellent appointment but can't see why he'd want to join us0

I won't be happy until Duchatelet has sold up. Don't let news like this fool you into renewing your season ticket.5
-
If the board appoint Wilder and let him buy and sell players - well then fair play to the board. You're management thus far has been a total disgrace but at least you've made a serious step in correcting the damage.3

And this will be the ongoing problem. It's going to be much harder to appoint a Brit than either Meire or Duchatelet think.LargeAddick said:

Because he has been told we will have new owners shortly? Wishful thinking on my part probably.Airman Brown said:Ditto Large. I wonder why he would ask for such advice and then not take it based on promises from a man with RD's record. Money, possibly.

Anyway it shows how far this club has been run down if we are now getting excited over poaching a Cobblers manager. It maybe disrespectful to Northampton but I think we should be aiming a little higher. I couldn't care less if he was English or not.5 -
we may be better off appointing a two bedroomed, semi-detached house as our next manager.ricky_otto said:Perhaps Colin was talking about this?

There are so many stories and half-truths whirling about Charlton these days its hard to know what to believe.
I take this Wilder business with a massive pinch of salt. Duchatelet seems to have severe trust issues with who he employs and who he listens too. He doesn't trust anybody else to spend his money and only wants people he can trust to sit down, shut up and do as they are told. He misplaces trust in his anonymous laptop wankers with regards to player selection and has only ever indulged his coaches with their own players very rarely.
What Damascene conversion has Duchatelet undergone to place his trust in a man he never would have heard of two weeks ago. Has Wilder been promised full autonomy over recruitment as well as coaching, scouting and medical staff? Has Wilder been promised a lavish (even by League One standards) budget? Has he been offered a contract longer than 2 years? On past evidence I can't see Duchatelet doing any of these things for a (non-Belgian!) man he has never even met.
I bet the tight-fisted old git has even considered not appointing a new manager until July just to save on salary!13 -
Exactly what my thoughts are.ken_shabby said:All great if true. But deep down, my honest view is that if he signs, he'll probably walk before the new season kicks off.

I'll give him until the end of September, when he will be seen running up Floyd Road shouting something like, "That woman is a bloody lunatic"8

So RD has full trust in the people who have recommended players to him for this club over the last 2 years, I would rather have trust in no-one if they cost me as much money as they have cost himMissed It said:There are so many stories and half-truths whirling about Charlton these days its hard to know what to believe.

So a man that was very vocal against his dodgy owners at Northampton is rushing to take the Charlton job?5

Everything pointing to Chris Wilder taking #cafc job. Club also looking to move quickly.

Cobblers indeed.7

You can't fault his loyalty anyway! He has stuck with Katrien Meire and his nameless Youtube jockeys despite all evidence of their desperate incompetence. If you're not in with him, you're out pretty quick though. Just ask any of Charlton's last 5 managers.ross1 said:

No manager is going to take a job on in the certain knowledge that new owners are arriving unless they are only looking for a few months work and/or having their contract paid up. How often do new owners keep the same manager?charltonkeston said:

Roland confirms he will give full control to manager. Asked what if he disagrees with manager Roland says as a famous manager once said "We talk about it for 20 minutes and then we decide I was right"

Whilst RD was happy to just survive in the Championship he may now realise that the same in L1 will not enable his player/puppy farm to generate the necessary income, however much he further reduces overheads. Being stubborn he won't sell immediately as that will show everyone that the protesters have won which may initiate more disruptions at his other clubs.
So, he needs a way out that he can put a positive spin on. He knows that more of the same from him and his SmMT (Senior mis-Management Team) will only mean more of the same or worse from the protesters.
His way out could be to get immediate promotion, selling the club as 'a successful conclusion to his ownership' and getting a higher selling price at the same time. He may also realise by now that L1 is equally as demanding to get out of as the Championship, although at a lower level. He will know that he has no time for his slowly slowly, keyboard scouting approach to get to know the requirements as experience builds over time (or not !) - it's got to be all or nothing NOW. He will also know that there is a serious credibility gap between him and the rest of English football.
Therefore, go for a successful lower league manager and do it quickly. Give him what he wants (within reason). Use his new manager's status and knowledge of lower league football to persuade players to come to Charlton. Give it a one-season go and sell next summer regardless.
Wilder ticks the boxes.7
