The Andrews Sykes sponsorship was not only vital from a financial point of view, but very appropriate in terms of historical association with CAFC.
Sykes in Charlton used to give engineering apprenticeships to young Charlton players in the 50's. Brian Kinsey told me he did his there in his early days at the club.
Jim Davidson also told a funny story about going into every other club's boardroom at away matches when Andrews were on board, and promptly announcing loudly "bloody hell it's hot in here", before the Andrews people there would later coincidentally suggest they pitched for some aircon business. Apparently it did result in some actual business getting done!
It annoyed me when people called the tie-up small time. I just thought it was the sort of thing we were about.15 -

i think the University tie up is excellent. I plan to get all the students and staff to wear charlton shirts as a uniform next academic year. when i mentioned this to my millwall supporting colleagues, they were speechless with joy at the thought. at least, i think that it was joy they were displaying.2

I'm really happy with this deal, and my only worry is the placement of the additional sponsors on the kit. Hopefully that concern will disappear when we can see the kit later.
Football is a game played with very little of a moral compass when it comes to sponsorship deals. Pay day loans that prey on those in financial hardship, e-cigarette companies and so on. Even an alcohol sponsorship for a club that prides itself on doing community work and having family values would be questionable.
For two seasons we've proudly had a local company with real ties to the club. A hard working and respectable company that provide an actual service as opposed to preying on those in need. That should be enjoyed.
If it's true that we turned away some pay day loan companies then I think Roly needs a pat on the back; he's stayed true to our Charlton values. As a businessman he could've looked purely at the finances involved and opted for the first decent offer.
Regarding the University of Greenwich, petty snobbery aside (which is, needless to say, ridiculous. I didn't realise we were all Oxford and Cambridge graduates on here.), I can't think of a better sponsorship deal.
It continues to underline the values we seem to enjoy at CAFC and is a further link to a local institute. Both of us can gain out of this relationship - and I think it's brilliant.
To keep a deal with Andrews' is also brilliant, and I'm sure Mitsu deal may have a few interesting advantages. Overall, well done all involved as far as I'm concerned - I couldn't think of a better result.

If having 3 sponsors boosts our revenue then I am all for it. Shows good commercial acumen from us for a change. And I think having a London based University that attracts students from all around the world beats a payday loan company of online betting company all ends up.2

It's almost impossible to evaluate sponsorships without knowing the real income attached to them, obviously excluding ethical considerations. As others have said, it's an unreservedly good thing we are not sponsored by a dodgy loan company or similar - or something that would have invited ridicule. In the absence of real numbers - which I don't expect the club to disclose - I wouldn't take too much notice of claims that the deals are the best in the history of the world. They always are, in my experience.

It's the kit I voted of on the trust website. Nice kit, best design of the Nike templates…could have done more with the sponsor though. It's not even the same text / design UoG use.0

It's bloody awful. Says nothing of our shirt traditions and I just can't forgive red shorts. I don't like hooped socks but that's at least got a tradition. I really hope that the club can be let know that this is just not acceptable. Really think this is a PR own goal and I hope they don't sell many. Supporters need to be involved if the management don't have any idea about club tradition. As for the Uni logo. That's just piss piss piss poor.5

The fact the UofG logo is not on the shirt does not surprise me, before working as a civil servant I worked for many years in the printing trade and was not sure how the intricate logo would be applied without it becoming shabby over time. Makes sense not to have it. The kit is different but overall I like it, any change from the norm will upset some but so will no change so let's not get too stressed over it.2

Just spoken to club and they have confirmed that the Univ of Greenwich logo on the front is as per the cafc website - as they felt the proper Univ of Greenwich logo was 'too busy'....
Personally for me - its commercial suicide if they want to sell shirts....1 -
They could have still use the typestyle from the logo, or created a simpler version, not that difficult.
