The important thing for the match is what the weather is going to be like between 1:30 (when the covers come off) and 5pm. If it is heavy rain throughout that period we are in trouble - but if around that we should get away with it. Has naybody seen the detailed forcust - or is it too early?

Met office site. At present plenty of rain (amber warning) & gusts to 50mph!

Sun shinning at the moment with a strong wind which should help to dry the pitch a bit. Although rain is forecast for this afternoon.

Very light rain forecast Saturday afternoon. There shouldn't be a problem :-)

Thanks NWC. I wasn't expecting miracles, but it still looks pretty awful.

As I said, that is the worst part, the north end is decent. There is grass coming thru but unfortunately the Groundstaff are unable to make it grow any quicker !
  • I think we will be finned or deducted points if it continues to call games off as I believe it's unacceptable for a championship club who within the last ten years have been in the premiership! I it's simply not on and the fact if it rains after 1.30 sat when covers off again is simply a scapegoat incase it does!

I don't think we will be fined as The Football League officiado on pitches has been down and told them they are doing all they can and doing exactly what he would of done in the circumstances. Just gotta pray rain doesn't fall too heavy on match day. It's definitely improved a lot from Oxford game. That pic is the worst part the rest looks ok. No excuses on Sat. 3 points needed

Updated an hour ago, not expecting any problems. The covers are put up/taken down as appropriate with the weather as it is, Paddy must have muscles like Popeye!

I hope you are right because that is not what I saw on the TV this morning forecast for Sat.
  • Embarrassing. We should resign from the league.

    Am I doing this right?

Get the covers on, pissing down in West London (Brentford) and weather moving eastwards.

    Spot on.

could have added we are going down which would have scored top marks.

    Am I doing this right?

  • I hope the new boys are gently introduced to the pitch ahead of Saturday, a decent training session on it should help ease the shock on Saturday. Might also give us an extra edge over the oppo, it should be an advantage as we would know how to play on it, this doesnt appear to be reflected in our results at home so far.

i dont think that is viable cos all they'd end up doing is cutting the pitch up anyway and making it worse for the game

Paddy's been slaving, working very hard,
Whilst everyone who slates, says he's sitting on his arse.
But these accusations are far from the truth,
He's been nurturing the pitch growing roots for me and you.
So come on everyone one get off of paddy's back,
It's due to lack of investment that the pitch is looking whack.

Detailed forecast on BBC this morning was absolutely chastely for Saturday afternoon - 20 mph winds and hosing it down.

On Wednesday they can't be that accurate with timings, the wind blowing a bit harder can bring things forward etc... Friday's forecast will probably tell us.

Other than the fact of the drainage is broke, the problem i think we had is that the water-table is high at the moment due to all the rain over the last few months. Ok the cover has been on as much as it can but the fact that we probably at Sea level is not helping that much as all rain water will find its way down to the Valley level any way. My guess would then be as soon as it rains heavy, puddles would appear on the pitch.

the ": -) " at the end was a big clue.

Then again got a flag from Shine166 for putting up a list of January transfers. OK not everyone cares who we've signed but seemed a bit OTT especially as it got about 25 likes too.

Would it be okay for me to flag someone for moaning that they got a flag? ;o)

Great! Be called off again then. I think we are in serious danger of being finned or losing points

Is there actually a precedent for the FA to do this. They can't just make up fines because they are pissed off. Given the number of lower league games that get called off every week I would be very surpised if there are FA rules against it (or at least not until you are ten games down or something).

    Anyone have details?
