current state of valley pitch?? *Ref confirms pitch is playable*

edited February 2014 in General Charlton
Since we've not played on it for some weeks now, has it recovered at all?? Not heard much from the club on this or fellow supporters??

  • Good enough apparently to let out to a record number of punters post end of season who want to live the dream of playing on a professionals pitch.
  • But is it actually playable?? Has grass started to return to the paddy field??
  • Taking the day off work for the Brum game,as I did for the Barnsley game:( Just hoping the game goes ahead, especially with the projected weather forcast. Otherwise, another wasted days holiday.
  • It concerns me they are playing a youth cup game on it next week. Looking at the rain that is forecast I think it will be in a sorry state come 17.00 on Sat meaning it will need a week or two to recover again.
  • Great! Be called off again then. I think we are in serious danger of being finned or losing points

Nobody above is saying the game will be called off, there is a lot of rain forecast but we all hope the pitch is being well looked after. My comments related to the youth game scheduled for next Tuesday because this is not giving the pitch time to recover after the Birmingham game this Sat.

The players might need fins to get around the pitch.

I presume that everytime it has rained- the covers have been on it over the last few weeks and am expecting it to look better. Will be disapointed if called off as I think there has been time to make the short term improvements needed. Would be good to see a pic of it.

Is it that bad that players has to have them?! Time for a pitch swap with GILLingham, perhaps? ;-)

A shame Charlton sold our favourite frog last week!
  • ... Mark Fish, Mike Salmon, Tamer Tuna...
  • Jorge Costa Concordia

Why do you think we would be fined or deducted points. Only one league fixture has not been completed so far, so why would the league fine CAFC or deduct points.

  • This one is oxford
  • This was on Tues morning and the worst part. The rest looked good and it still has 3/4 days to improve. Fingers crossed.
  • Ha ha this was a week before the season started. What a difference

I hope the new boys are gently introduced to the pitch ahead of Saturday, a decent training session on it should help ease the shock on Saturday. Might also give us an extra edge over the oppo, it should be an advantage as we would know how to play on it, this doesnt appear to be reflected in our results at home so far.

Poor excuse for poor footballers, its the same for both teams on the day.
  • I'm can't recall too many games were that was the case to be honest.

Mind you we're playing Birmingham on Saturday, so it's not as if we'll be up against super silky skilled footballers who will be hampered by the conditions!
  • The important thing for the match is what the weather is going to be like between 1:30 (when the covers come off) and 5pm. If it is heavy rain throughout that period we are in trouble - but if around that we should get away with it. Has naybody seen the detailed forcust - or is it too early?
  • Thanks NWC. I wasn't expecting miracles, but it still looks pretty awful.
