Great stuff, been at a family birthday celebration all afternoon, saw the score so well pleased with that but after reading this thread sounds like we bossed it

Did the new lads get on, if so how did they do?
Gilbert did, briefly. Looked tidy enough but only a brief cameo so can't judge much.
Gilbert took two corners and found a Charlton player both times.
Yeah, Leaburn both times iirc, when they were running the clock down by the corner flag...

I suppose for you we’re missing Mr Lyle Taylor to be good then?

Not much to add, just echo all the points.

Looked like a long 90mins of league one football for the majority of the first half but, a quick tidy little goal from the sniffer dog and it was pretty comfortable from then out.

Stevenage huffed but if it wasn't for our own mistakes in the first half they wouldn't have looked anything  close to threatening, even with us trying to gift them a half decent chance or two they didn't register their first shot on target until, what, midway through the second I think.

Both goals were a spectacle for different reasons, the first was a fantastic move from start to finish thanks to Godden, and a rare appearance in the box from Coventry.
Second is a fantastic bit of skill to comfortably guide home.

We have confident players working hard and playing together in a way that suits and let's us see the best of their individual traits, absolutely light years ahead of where we started the season, sure, not perfect and necessarily pretty at times but it works. Picking up points, climbing that table. Form and confidence.

Was about to.make a point about how we're seeing a decent spine but was beaten to it.

    AMB
    Jones
    Docherty Coventry
    Berry
    Godden

The width provided by small and TC pulling wide has been a big part of our turn around in form and the lack of any real options out wide is a risk still, but that core unit there is keeping us ticking along nicely.

    Bring back Holden.
  • I was worried about the game given Stevenage run of form of late but they were utterly toothless upfront and really didn't create anything themselves at all. We were completely dominant and really should have had 3.

Berry's best game for quite a while, amazing what some competition can do to a player's determination really.

Peterborough, Exeter, Wigan, Lincoln, Northampton, Burton at home.  Cambridge, Peterborough and Crawley away.  Win them and we would be on 74 points.

I never thought for a second after walking out of The Valley after our Crawley capitulation that we would have it in our hands.

We need serious fortune with injuries, here is hoping.

It's beginning feel as if we are going on a journey, feet firmly on the ground, take each game as it comes without putting too much pressure on the players. All we can do is get behind the team, yes a team that looks as if has found their way, another great result today👏👏👏

A good afternoon though I still find these early kick offs disorienting!

Met a couple of Dutch tourists in the Fans Bar pre match. First visit for them. “It will be an easy win for Charlton, no?” They suggested. I replied unlikely as we rarely do things the easy way. Then bumped into them at the station afterwards and congratulated them on being correct. Only problem was they missed the first goal by leaving before end of first half to go to loo then stayed drinking their beers and missed the second goal too! Told them they’ll have to come back then to see us score.
Also good to catch up with German Addicks, Scottish Addicks and @Er_Be_Ab_Pl_Wo_Wo_Ch
The players deserve to enjoy that win bonus.
Now how come I’ve had football, beers and curry and it’s not even 7pm yet?!
I was chatting to the German Addicks for a while, shame I missed you @Weegie Addick

Bad first half as a spectacle. No pattern at all.

Goal changed everything and we were more driven and confident 2nd half. Comfortable at 2-0 but not seeking to ram it home.

Very good at the back...won the duels and AMB did the crucial interception at 0-0.

Coventry and Jones were very good. Godden is a great lower league poacher (his goal or OG?).

    I've seen worse.

Lots to like about todays performance following AMB's tactical injury. We were really sloppy before that but much improved after. Superb second half. Coventry starting to look like the player we thought we were getting when he signed. So good today. Godden was also fantastic, really good foward play throughout. Got that momentum going which is so important after Christmas

like like many on here it was season over after Crawley defeat….

    Jones back
    Leaburn back
    Ramsey back
Small by default in a different position -different Class
    TC -IMO most improved player

    Confidence back
    Momentum with us
Now in our own hands re Playoffs

    Credit to NJ
Luton fans said he is better 2nd half of season..

Berry Doc Coventry now looking the MF we really hoped for

    Final word
I thought the Ref was the best we have seen all season so far

Top performance against one of our bogey teams. A nervous start and we relied on Ash to make a superb save one on one, if that went in it was a completely different game!

Made me laugh when my mate turned to me and said he could see NJ calling for AMB to go down, great call as we needed a reset and looked better from then on. Shout out to Cov, Berry and Godden, but special mention to Kayne Ramsey, what a player and one I’ve not seen at that quality down here for a while, defo champ level if not prem, he won’t be with us long unless we go up!

We were in a proper battle for that first 30, thank god Ashley was injured…

The 60 minutes that followed were the best I’ve seen us under Jones. Confidence flowing all over the pitch and should have won by more.

Wanted Jones out after the Crawley game and currently eating a big piece of humble pie…

    MOTM was AMB

Kept us in the game with a great rushing save when it was 0 - 0 and then his unfortunate and in no way faked injury allowed NJ to re-organise the team.

Before then we had been nullified, after the tweek with Coventry playing slightly more forward we dominated.

Campbell had not been on it but once he got going to was involved in both goals and was unlucky not to score with a lovely shot from outside the area that Berry was on hand to tuck away the rebound.

After that is was very comfortable and we should have had more but let's not be greedy.  Clean sheet, no injuries other than AMB as above and Coventry's nosebleed after running into the oppo box.

Don't like these early kick offs but when you when it does mean a relaxing afternoon.

Would like to see it back, but from memory he was facing a 2 on 1 and was third favourite to come out with the ball. Decisive, and got it clean as a whistle. Situation had goal, pen or red card written all over it.
He's taken a fair amount of stick on here but that was an absolutely fantastic save, If that was in the 1st Division they would be showing that again & again.

Am I the only one who thinks AMB’s save wasn’t a save?
I think he never actually touched the ball, it seemed to me it came off the attackers shin.
Any way, if that ‘was’ the case it was certainly AMB’s intervention that caused the miss control….so in effect he still prevented a shot on goal.
    Discuss.
Huh ? How could it have gone backwards off of his shin ?

A great save by AMB, indeed a typical AMB save as he's at his best when diving at the feet of opponents, but also with the down side of his regular head injuries.

To me this felt like he didn’t do his usual and charge out crazily. A lot of keepers would have given a penalty away in that situation, but he slowed down a little bit after rushing out, and then went for it at the perfect moment. Brilliant goalkeeping and a bit of composure which has been lacking from his game previously

Alex Revell in that interview saying Berry's goal was "preventable"..., you were undone by a brilliantly created and taken goal, just own up to it man ffs...fool.
In the end they were running around like headless chickens, you were beaten mate, and you just can't accept it...🤷‍♂️

He's probably wondering how Matt Godden kept outjumping his centre backs

I think he was more pointing out the lack of marking. TC was free to take the shot, then Berry was left alone with the rebound.

ahd I think that pushes us to 7th?
"Our" Charlie Barker scores a bloody OG
  • How nice to have the attacking options of Leaburn , Chuks and Kanu on the bench.
Not sure if there are any other league 1 clubs with that strength available to bring on ?

Happily the days of Josh Davison playing as a lone striker with no attacking options on the bench are well gone.

Criticism of Small and TC's crossing ignores fact Stevenage's full backs were good. They have a great defensive record.
