Coventry is even better as an attacking player than he is as a DM. That brief period late in the first half when he was told to get forward produced two outstanding crosses, one was converted for the first goal. Time for Doc and Coventry to swap?
i have long been a critic of us offloading May, but if Godden plays like that every week then it’s Alfie who?
I hope NJ tore a strip off those players who selfishly went for goal and glory rather than pass and secure a 4-0 win. (Remember Blackpool)
AMB’s moment of the season so far. It would’ve been so different had he not rescued us.
Brilliant performance but I think Small has to shoot in that chance, the pass to Godden is blocked and difficult to Godden and he has worked space in the centre to a clean shot. The shot should've been better though.
Interesting fixtures coming up for Stevenage. They play Birmingham home and away within ten days, that's in March and that same month they are at home to Huddersfield then visit Reading and Leyton Orient. April they visit Wycombe and Stockport and wrap it up away to Bolton. They probably won't make the play offs but they will cause a lot of problems for sides and, after a relatively easy Feb, they certainly could have a say as to who makes the play off places and above. Glad we got three points off them and don't have to go to the Lamex stadium looking for points.

The pass to Godden should have been obvious, and he delayed the pass which was a nailed on third, but saw the glory in his sights and basically made a complete cock up of the whole thing...
You can see what Revell means when he says that goal was preventable - None of our players were being marked throughout the entire move, no pressure was put on Ramsay (?) or Godden for the initial passes, and no one was tracking Berry as he gambled on the rebound.
The only part where you cant really blame the Stevenage defence is the fact they probably didnt expect Campbell to hit it first time
What a crock of shit. Muppet: "We didn't do the basics right" Actual: "How we came away from that without a 3-0 or 4-0 defeat is a miracle. PS What's a shot on target?"
Don’t think it’s been mentioned but highlight of the game has got to be when Tyreece Campbell started running down the wing and Nutjob Nathan started sprinted alongside him 🤣
I sit a few rows behind him and he’s great value in the dugout.
Great day out shit weather boring first half then we did them either side of half time clinical stuff could have put 3-4 past them easily one of the best performances I've seen this season against a side i thought we'd really struggle against, special mental to brewer if it weren't for him it could of been a crap afternoon underrated keeper imo only young aswell.
Was quite impressed with Stevenage for the first 40 odd minutes, you can see why they don’t concede many. The 2nd half was a complete walk over though.
I’d challenge someone to find me a player that is better in the air relative to their height as Matt Godden, absolutely brilliant again yesterday

He's absolutely barmy. I watched on the box yesterday and could actually hear him clear as day yelling instructions sometimes.
I would love them to stick a gopro on his head and monitor his heart rates. Would be content.
I reckon when he goes home after the game his brain is wired.
He's always had passion and shows that he cares. Not a bad thing.
A great performance and will be in the play positions as a minimum if we continue like this barring injury. AMB doesn't have my full confidence but the result would have been very different but for his save .Jones has had a lot of criticism but it's now clear that every player knows his job and does it well . The boss deserves a lot of credit.
There is a magnificent fighting spirit amongst this group of players. We must get behind them

He's 26, as for your comment about the owners backing the club, the club will probably lose between 7 to ten million this season and yes the craziness of football means that debt effectively stays with the club but and it's a big but, someone has to pay the day to day costs of running a football club. Despite the debt and the silly money they gave to Sandgaard, we now have a squad that is sitting in the play off positions and has hit form in the last third of the season. I don't know how long you've been supporting Charlton, Steven, but you will find that every supporter outside the Premier is asking for the 'board to stop being tight', I've been asking since 1968, I don't think anyone is listening mate, but if they do let me know.

Game management and its finest late on!
I’ll take a player shooting at a goal they can see rather than passing it to somebody else every time
Where we started the season with Ahadme, then later Leaburn with a bit of Aneke thrown in as ‘target men’, I found it hard to believe that little Matt Godden could fulfil that role. On the evidence of yesterday (can he sustain it against all kinds of opposition?) Godden has been our best ‘target man’ of the season so far. It begs the question ‘wither Ahadme?’ and the weight of his lengthy contract, especially with M’bick and Casey waiting in the wings.

I don't mind a player shooting in that position as a pass could be intercepted or just misplaced and the chance goes begging.
However.
In that position you have to do better. The shot was weak & not placed in either corner......the actions of a defender being played out of position. Small is great with what he gives us & the change in formation that led to him being deployed as a winger has turned our season around. He did score the winner a few games a go but he's had half a dozen similar chances since then & fluffed them. A natural.winger/attacking player would have buried at least half of them.
Fantastic performance once we had the AMB injury. Its so wrong and sums up so.much that is wrong with the current game, but all the time the refs and authorities allow it to happen, we need to use it (just don't criticise others when they do it against us).
AMB save (despite some saying he never touched it!) was brilliant and was as good as scoring a goal.
Need so many more to get inside The Valley as far too many open spaces in the stands

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi comes to mind and how many of his calibre do you see in L1.
Enjoy what Small is offering. It's been a huge contrubuting factor to us being a watchable team again!
i think Small was well within his rights to shoot and had probably made that decision before he jinked inside. CBT was similar in that his explosive pace took him past players easily but then the end product was a lottery but he improved both his shooting and crossing in his last season with us. I think Small would have blasted that shot earlier in the season but he tried to pass it into the net but got the direction wrong and was a simple save. He's been trying to pass his shots in a lot more over the last few weeks and i think he just needs to persevere. Thierry Henry was the master at it - accelerate away and then pass the ball firmly into the bottom corner. If Small can master that, he's on the way to cracking it.
Hindsight is wonderful and looking at it now perhaps had Small passed the ball instead of taking it on himself then who knows but I don’t want our players being scared or lacking the confidence to shoot when they see the whites of the goalkeepers eyes. I think if Small did anything wrong it’s that he hit it a couple of strides too soon.
NJ said at the start of the season that he wanted to start with prioritising the defence. I believe we can safely say mission accomplished. Now he seems able to better manage games whilst they are in progress as he has turned his attention to the midfield. He is able to shuffle all his cards and not have his hand forced by injury. As the midfiled gels on the training ground and in matches, the delivery for chances has inexorably improved.
We are a different team from back to front and into the dugout. If we dont go up this year, I believe NJ will have a longer run with this type of quality and understanding next season. If we started the season playing like we have in the past month, we would be in automatic contention, obviously.
Fine margins in every game of course, but would it have been a 3 point game without that fantastic save?
Things in the garden are looking rosy. Well done to Nathan and the back room team.
That’s encouraging I think. Given his previous club history I think he’s been poorly advised thus far. He needs to stay put and get games under his belt. His time will come.
First 30 mins was a difficult watch with us continually to make plenty of mistakes and gifting opportunities for Stevenage. Once that changed we dominated for the remainder of the match.
Stevenage made four subs on the 55th min, and nothing changed from their impact with us looking like getting a 3rd.
Pleasing to see that we saw out the win without any real danger, especially after conceding two goals at Blackpool.
Good sides make it look easy at times, and we made it look very easy. The remaining sides won’t fancy a trip to The Valley any time soon.
Decent performance. But scruffy in the first half, misplaced passes etc, second half very good. Missed both goals due to queuing for a beer / finishing my beer 🤦🏻♂️
Disappointed I didn't get to see much of Gilbert and McIntyre.
That being said good solid defensive display, that new signing has driven Luke Berry (which I though it would do) and Godden is keeping Leaburn out of the team (he is now getting less minutes then Aneke). Good to see Kanu getting minutes.
It is all coming together now, and we have two big games coming, so looking forward to seeing what happens!!! Allez allez allez!!

Found the second goal in full but not the first
