England Lions are playing Australia A in an unofficial Test. The Lions were 166 all out in their first innings - Bethell made 19.

In reply Australia are 150-2 but any hope that England's number one spinner is going to come to England's rescue in the Ashes seem to be diminishing by the second - Bashir bowled two overs for 21 and was immediately taken off.

A very decent Aussie attack that, including the likes Jhye Richardson, Xavier Bartlett, Todd Murphy and Beau Webster, Australia using the game to keep their back up players sharp.

I can't imagine if Australia A were touring England at the same time as the Ashes, such a strong England Lions team playing them.

Echo some of the thoughts from earlier, the Aussies haven't been great, and it could have been worse with some poor dismissals of their own.

Wouldn't say we're completely out the game even with possibly a 100-150 first innings deficit. It's just that I have absolutely no faith we will bat logically and sensibly. I.E Don't attack Starc and don't play at every single ball.

Will say its going to be a test of Smith's mental capability, dropping that catch, the taunts from the Oz crowd, the lack of going for that Root drop- + the incoming media Oz scrutiny. Time to see what you're made of rest of the series.

Bazbal is a total failure . Great to watch at times but the mindset has ruined a generation of players and I think it will be a few years until will properly learn how to play test cricket again.
With the Aussie fast bowlers back for the third test I can’t see past a 5-0 whitewash and the end the Stokes / McCullum experiment.

    might get close to stumps

Aussies to bat until lunch/tea and then probably declare.
150ish lead. Starc under the lights with a new ball. should be done by the end of tomorrow
  • Blowers is at my club tonight and ranting as you’d expect in characteristically eloquent fashion about the inadequacies of Bazball.

slighly surprisingly he would stick with Crawley but doesn’t rate Pope one bit ‘flat track bully’ and as for the brain dead Brook…
  • Not a fan of Smith either…

I'm afraid Blowers is losing his marbles. Crawley has never got a big score, let alone a match winning one on anything other than a road. Pope's issue is that he is too skittish early doors but, nevertheless, hit one of our best match winning innings of recent times - 196 in the First Test in India when we won by 28 runs.

If we bat properly there is no reason we can't last the day.
Unfortunately with the mindset Bazball has installed you are probably right

I can’t wait for McCallum to be sacked and England to start losing properly again.

Bit of a scary thought thinking about where the England cricket team may well be after the bones have been picked out and should Bazball be consigned to the bin.
    Key and McCullum gone
Reckon there's a chance Stokes will retire from international cricket.
Def question marks over Crawley, Duckett ,Pope and even Brook.
All the bowlers bar Archer pretty suspect.
Poor Root could be in for a tough old slog to get near Tendulkar.

First hour of the day done. Aussies 41-2 from 14 overs in the session so far.

Runs have dried up for the Australians as Starc is looking to protect Boland

Painful session and dragging our openers closer to facing Starc with the new ball in the twilight. England 20/3 incoming.

Worst thing is he didn’t even bowl particularly well in the first innings, we just gave him most of the dismissals

Decent over from Jacks there, plenty of turn.

Enough to think he’ll be dangerous in the fourth innings IF we can put enough runs on.

The nightmare scenario for England.  All set up for Australia to be bowling under the lights with a hard pink ball.

Meanwhile, a few miles away the Lions were all out for 166 and Australia A are 536/6 in reply.
