West Indies won there last year, scoring 311 in the first innings, so people saying it's under par are wrong
    Looking very under par now.

Stokes was banging on about how we've been preparing for this series for years.
I think this looks like one of the illest prepared sides I've seen out there.

I think the key to chaos under lights is the weird light coupled with a brand new ball. Added chaos if the new ball is in the hands of someone like Mitchell Starc

Watching Carse bowl absolute garbage all evening has been painful.

Bowl one at a good length please.

Well at least Hazelwood is out of Brisbane
But Cummins and Lyon, in particular wanting to prove a point, will be back.

Much of the pre-Ashes talk was about the Aussies being too old and their batting order being in total disarray swiftly followed by how they are going to miss Cummins and Hazelwood. We've successfully managed in solving all those issues for them.
  • This is all falling apart very quickly now

We might want to think about having a deep third man for Smith
I mentioned this earlier when Weatherald was scoring runs for fun behind square.
As soon as you start dropping the ball short, you need to have a sweeper down there.

This is a real grim watch
  • Carse getting spanked for 17 off the over. They’re really targeting him.

This, I think they see it as a defensive move but cutting off someones scoring areas is actually an attacking move - it forces them into other shots.

I do feel sorry for England's bowlers at the moment, the ball is well chewy and squidgy so are a bit limited in what they can do. Not forgiving them as they have lobbed a lot of shit down the track

If only we had a spinner!

I know this is a new ball but part of the reason the previous one went soft and out of shape was because they kept banging it in too short

The bowling hasn't been good enough. Whatever they've been doing in the nets in the last week and a half, hasn't prepared them properly.

I appreciate that. My comments were too because it was amusing to think that people actually thought the Aussies were just going to roll over.

As I've said we might have a decent chance in the next home Ashes but only if we give our young players to improve and not constantly wrap them up in cotton wool. Spencer Johnson, one of the fastest bowlers in the world, was playing club cricket last weekend. Labuschagne hit five centuries in the Sheffield Shield to force his way back into the team whereas Bethell played just two CC matches all last season. Bashir can't get a game or contract anywhere because he's not, despite all the guff that is coming out of the England camp, improving.

Carse bowls a full ball and knocks Green's stumps over. Funny that.

    291-4 and 43 behind

To be fair, he has bowled some real rubbish but is our leading wicket taker in the series. And Duckett has just dropped Carey first ball off him.

    I’m taking all the credit
  • Green playing the perfect all rounder batting performance - be the aggressive foil to the recognised batsman at the other end. If we can get another quick one..
