Anyone any recommendations of somewhere to stay in Northumberland (family/young kids).
North Farm Cottages in Embleton - less well known, but still great, location , sea in the distance and high quality accomodation. Pubs and childrens play area close by
Pot-A-Doodle Do - Screamerston on outskirts of Berwick, glamping accomodation and close to a fantastic beach
In terms of places - Craster is a great location, lots of accomodation available , pub, but I would imagine could be an expensive place to stay. Beadnell is a less well known, but great location - close to Seahouses but quiet and with its own great beach and a must visit pub if in the area - The Craster Arms (but in Beadnell) steak night on Thursdays, great food and good value
Didn't get out of work in time for tonights match, so did the next best thing, watched the second half on Sky and booked a holiday!
So April off for a week in Cyprus and August a fortnight in Lanzarote. May have a look at some Villa's whilst out there as quite fancy a retirement home in the sun to spend long winters with a bit of warmth.
Let me know how you get on as we’ve been actively looking for a place in Spain / Portugal for a while, although the new property tax may put an end to that. Not sure if it’s limited to the mainland though, so you may be ok.
Came back last week from a few days in Venice for my wife's birthday. Going to do another driving tour with the dog this year (7 weeks). We looked at England/Scotland but it is better value abroad and you are more likely to get the weather. Going to Lake Como twice (diffrent spots on it and it is a good stop before and after Switzerland. Lake Garda, Lucca, Genoa, the Adriatic coast, Forli (Where my dad was from) then going to spend some time in France and Belgium on the way back.
A combination of hotels and apartments which are strategically placed in the itinerary for washing our clothes!

Cyprus is easier, spend 300k euros or more on a place and whilst you have to apply, you’ll basically get a VISA no issue. The added benefit is anytime you spend there doesn’t count against your 90 days in 180 in Europe.
Lanzarote do have something similar, think they call it the non lucrative visa as long as you can show certain income/savings. Medical annd criminal record certificate etc etc. although think at 5 years you may have to apply for residency.
Rockabilly weekender in Torremolinos next week, mad ten days in the UK in March (as most of our allowed time in Britain will be taken up looking after Karen's mum from April, we are cramming as much UK activity in as possible before then), two football matches, two gigs, two nights at the theatre, one exhibition and one comedy show... Long weekend in Ringwood in April for K's mum's 90th, twelve days in Ringwood in May looking after mum, long weekend in Algeciras for a Rockabilly do in July, and finally (so far) three weeks looking after mum in August followed by four days in Berlin and three in Dusseldorf.
Couple of years of Avios hoarding for the flights but have 12 days in Mauritius in Sept, both flying business for the first time (reward flights). Bougiest thing we've done, guaranteed to make the next ~8 months last forever though!
Anyone been to Seville recently, any recommendations?
Yes! We did Seville last Feb from Tavira in the Algarve and stayed at the hotel Becquer. Absolutely loved it but wouldn't fancy going after March, I got sunburnt in Feb!!
Full of history and great places to eat and drink on every street corner. We are going back again in a couple of weeks.
Anyone been to Seville recently, any recommendations?
It’s excellent. Lots of walking and lots to see.
I would not bother going to the top of the bell tower. Views are not great with the volume of visitors - we found the views from the Setas de Sevilla very good and took advantage of the ticket offer which lets you return in the evening when it is illuminated.
If you want to go to the football stadium too it’s an easy walk.
Anyone been to Seville recently, any recommendations?
Definitely go, Seville is a fantastic city very walkable, great food/bars literally everywhere there are 2 football grounds to visit as Real Betis play there too
if you’re splashing out stay at the hotel Alfonso catherdral is well worth seeing oldest tapas bar in Spain supposedly, is called el rinconcillo and worth going to as well

Agreed, but I believe the time not counting towards the 90 in 180 for the EU is going to change by the end of the year as they are joining Schengen
The non lucrative visa (for Spain) is an option but it is for living there full-time as in you can't leave for more than 10 months in the 5 years. Or I think 6 months in the first year either. If you are to get one, they want to spend your money in Spain
Its almost that time for planning your holidays for 2025.
Some of my trips have already been booked up the end of the Caribbean cruise but will finalise the extension on to South America next month. This will be my first time on a cruise and still apprehensive about doing this kind of travel but unless I try it I should not make a judgement. I’m also doing this cruise in order to do a recce on the islands just in case I want to return and do some island hopping and staying longer on the islands. Jamaica is still on my list of places to visit especially Montego Bay (probably because of the song and reggae) but I hear its too dangerous unless going to an all inclusive fenced in which is not my scene. Anyway, my rough itinerary for 2025 starts with:
* Early sun trip to Gran Canaria from 2 jan. * Flight to Barbados for 3 nights before a 2 week Caribbean Cruise from 30 Jan. Whilst in this neck of the woods I’ll head to Colombia after the cruise (Bogota, Santa Marta, Barrenquilla) before heading to Santiago (Chile) and Easter Island, Peru, Bolivia and finish up with some real R&R in Rio de Janeiro before heading back to Blighty sometime at the end of March. * Budapest (April or May) * Play off Final 🤓 * Madrid (April or May) * South of France (June) * London for the summer (July, August, September) * Spain (October)
F***ing hell!! I’ve some green eyes reading this thread but that opener is a banger!!
I’ve no idea how you’ve navigated through life to get to coining a year like that, but many congratulations @Solidgone and I hope it is as amazing for you as it is just to read it!
Off to Disney world for 10 days on Thursday. Went last year for the first time and enjoyed it. Wouldn’t say I loved it but obviously happy enough to go back. My 5 and 7 year old are similar to me which is quite weird. Their favourite place to go on holiday is Ireland followed by Lanzarote (same as me) 😂 it’s the wife that loves it as she used to go with a group of families from a Forest Hill working men’s club when she was a child till someone done an Arthur fowler (the stories!!😂). We stayed off property last time as we had the in-laws in tow but we’re staying at animal kingdom lodge this time. Can’t wait tho the parks can get a bit tedious if they’re busy and it’s hot.
