Holidays 2025

Its almost that time for planning your holidays for 2025.

Some of my trips have already been booked up the end of the Caribbean cruise but will finalise the extension on to South America next month. This will be my first time on a cruise and still apprehensive about doing this kind of travel but unless I try it I should not make a judgement. I’m also doing this cruise in order to do a recce on the islands just in case I want to return and do some island hopping and staying longer on the islands. Jamaica is still on my list of places to visit especially Montego Bay (probably because of the song and reggae) but I hear its too dangerous unless going to an all inclusive fenced in which is not my scene. Anyway, my rough itinerary for 2025 starts with:

* Early sun trip to Gran Canaria from 2 jan.
* Flight to Barbados for 3 nights before a 2 week Caribbean Cruise from 30 Jan. Whilst in this neck of the woods I’ll head to Colombia after the cruise (Bogota, Santa Marta, Barrenquilla) before heading to Santiago (Chile) and Easter Island, Peru, Bolivia and finish up with some real R&R in Rio de Janeiro before heading back to Blighty sometime at the end of March.
* Budapest (April or May)
* Play off Final 🤓
* Madrid (April or May)
* South of France (June)
* London for the summer (July, August, September)
* Spain (October)

  • Only have Disneyland Paris in July and Paphos in August so far. Might go for a last minute one in January to get some winter sun.

    Got a 20 night cruise up above the artic circle in July which I’m really looking forward to, certainly will be different as we normally do warm cruises, don’t think this will be though.

    Also around new year eve ‘25 (so just qualify I hope) we will be flying out to New Zealand for around a week to 10 days touring / sightseeing, then boarding a 61 night cruise from Auckland to Tokyo followed by a 4 day tour of Japan hopefully will be fun.

    That all looks good sensible to plan in the PO final LOL.

    We're off to the arctic circle (Tromso) in February. Should be toastie.
  • Our main one is Singapore (2 parkruns) plus midweek in and around Kuching, Borneo. Seeing proboscis monkeys is my priority in the latter.

    Also got shorter trips in Marrakech, St Andrews, Warsaw and a couple of other bits planned. The Open golf is rumoured to being going to Portmarnock near Dublin in a few years so I want to pre-emptively tick that off with an Irish parkrun.

    really nice place, went in Feb 2016. Saw the lights on three occasions.
    Will have to go back one day.
  • Probably Costa Del Kent for me.

  • 2 weeks at Dungeness for Lady Flash, our 2 Springer Spaniels and Lord Flash
  • Driving to the Black Forest with a couple of mates for a week in late May. I think Germany is a very underrated destination. We've spent nights there en route to Budapest and decided we'd like to see a bit more of it.
    Does anyone have specific recommendations for that area?

    Ha we have a lot in common mate! I went to Portmarnock for my 50th back in April. We stayed at the portmarnock hotel and played portmarnock old, Jameson links and Howth. The fore caddie mentioned about they were trying to get the open. It will be a logistical nightmare though and they’re talking about getting the army in to build pontoons across the estuary to get people in and out. Apparently it’s theirs if they want it but it’ll be loss making for them and they’ll have to redesign a couple of holes too.
  • Not sure what we’re doing in the summer but are looking to do a week or so in NY over Christmas

    Army and pontoons?! Yes I've had a long look at it on Google Maps and it seems impossible - a narrow spit of land with one road on-off for those who haven't looked.

    The R&A are going all-in on income and hospitality profits so I feel like it'll happen. And it it doesn't I still get to play Portmarnock and one or two more   :)
  • Only booked one so far, Lanzarote again in August for two weeks.

    Probably will do a week in Cyprus in May but depends on play offs…. So Cyprus it is 😂

    It really is an awkward place to get to. There were seven of us and two of the lads just couldn’t get an Uber to pick them up. It was 8pm and getting dark so the pro drove them back to the hotel as it’s not really walkable, especially with clubs! Really wanted to play the island in addition to the courses we played but couldn’t get a tee time. Were you wearing a bexley runners top by the way at Battersea last week? Saw at least one fella wearing that.

    Cheers, this has made me get a move on so I'll probably book soon for October '25.

    No, I'm in a Dartford running club. How are your legs feeling? I have been so tired and hungry all week. I'm already thinking about the next one though, maybe something hilly or muddy.

    Caribbean cruise end of January and Sicily in September. New grandchild due early June so leaving it open but perhaps a trip to Northumberland in late June.

    Still trying to convince Mrs M for us to have a trip to Australia for Christmas/New Year - Christmas/NY in Melbourne and then Sydney first week in January 2026. I'm sure there will be things for us to do!

    How about a test match? Was thinking of going to the Sydney Ashes test early January”26, but I think I might have lost the argument with the misses and we are going to Auckland instead for a tour around the area before leaving for a cruise.

    Ok. Felt pretty much back to normal yesterday but yeah, been eating like a horse this week too. Definitely nothing hilly or muddy for me! Maybe Belfast or Valencia if I can make it work with holiday time. Otherwise might even do Battersea again. I’m also thinking something a bit different. Check out back yard ultra!!!!

    Enjoy! Bako National Park is a wonderful place to experience the monkeys while in Kuching.

    4 nights in a small city in Northern Ireland for a lads trip? At least the Guinness will be good.
  • Week in Lanzarote end of Nov/Start of December. Will have a newborn in tow very soon so imagine anything early next year will be UK based.
  • @Solidgone in Jamaica try to get on a tour to Bob Marley's home at Nine Mile. I did it as as a cruise excursion.

    Wow. That’s a trip. Last year we did Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Easter island. Just back from a cruise round Cape Horn and then the O walk in Patagonia.
    We want to do Galapagos, Colombia and Panama to complete set but can’t work out the best timing.
  • Aus & NZ April/May ( via Singapore)

    Then my happy place September Sorrento

    Getting some building work out of the way between January to April, then a couple of short trips arranged, firstly to Istanbul in April and then a group of us are meeting at a friend's villa near Alicante in May.

    Big one planned at the moment is in September when my wife and I are walking the Camino Frances route from St Jean Pied de Port across the north of Spain to Santiago de Compostela. 800 km over 6 weeks. Did it for the first time in 2017 shortly after retiring. Doing it again for my 70th and have managed to persuade 3 out of 4 sons to walk the first 10 days with us, including day 1 over the Pyrenees from France into Spain. Really looking forward to this and hoping the joints can still handle the distance!

    May aim for a fly and flop holiday later in the year.
