  • In: GK, Rb (loan), CAM, Winger

Out: Taylor, Asimwe (loan), Edun, Potts (end of deal), Z Mitchell (loan), Campbell (end loan?), Hylton (end of deal), Dixon (loan?)

  • Just a handful of glowing reviews about Etete on CardiffLife:

Just the kind of striker Scott loves. From the Championship - tick, scored very few goals -tick, overrated and overpriced - tick. Has such little ball control he barely looks like a park footballer, let alone a pro - tick. Imagine him and Ahadme up front to together, go Scott!
Good job he don't chose the players then and its down to Jones
    Someone is telling you porkies.
CM has said it and Jones has said it that was one of the main points he wanted before he joined hence the manager title and not head coach
Unfortunately, Scott is still there f@&£ing it up with his Mediocre signings - Until he’s gone, I can’t see  us signing decent players.  I wonder if he was behind the gassan signing?
Some of the blame can be pointed at Jones too. He’s had more control than previous managers.

Personally think Dixon (+ Enslin + Kanu) should all be given some time off the bench, each can play in the TC/Small roles and offer some attacking impotus and pace off the bench. Having our attacking bench options as Ahadme/Hylton/Godden provides no pace against tiring defenders.
I 100% agree Dixon should be getting minutes every now and again but I don't think Jones will use him.

Unless Leaburn is leaving this window, I'd be baffled if we signed another big striker like Etete. Regardless of whether he's any good or not, I can't see that we need another target man.
  • I don't think L Jones goes this window. Stick around until the end of the season and he can either go up with us or be available as a free agent and get higher wages. It is unlikely his form drops off a cliff for 5 months

Agreed. Unless a Championship side, and a decent one too (i.e. not one that will be relegated) comes in, why move now? We can still make the playoffs, Wycombe or Wrexham could slump in the second half of the season, or fluff the playoffs.

If we lose Jones to Wycombe it will be a new low for me. I don't have any info on this btw just reading press
That’s surely not going to happen.
Charlton to Wycombe you are having a laugh.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he will spend much on the team. If a championship club come sniffing around Kone in the window and they sell,  even less so.

They also have a very limited potential.
Average crowd a pathetic 5,000 in a 10,000 Stadium while near the top of the league.

Player I would like to see us go after is Nathan Lowe, on loan at Walsall from Stoke. Big power and strong forward. Knows where the goal is. That would show great intent.
Another big forward, we already have two. Plus, Stoke would expect him to play. It wouldn't suprise me to see him go back to Stoke and return on loan in L1, Wrexham are short on forwards. Bodvarsson hasn't worked out and Palmer and Mullins have limitations.
  • I don't know anything about the Etete suggestions but I wonder if the club have made contact in the event that we do lose Leaburn. Obviously we want to keep Miles but if there's a chance or even some noise about a bid coming in that the club would accept then it would be the least you'd hope for that a replacement would be lined up. Not much point sitting on your hands telling yourself who you'll sign if you then speak to them and can't afford the fee or find they don't want to join
  • They might figure that Ramsey is back soon, so you have a back four as it were (not au fait with systems) of Ramsey Mitchell Dizzy and Edwards
Then get the money in for Jones to mitigate the losses of this season and squeeze a bit from that to fuel the gravy train.

Quite why a genuinely wealthy individual with assets in the billions would buy a football club and then not spend what to him would be peanuts is beyond my understanding.

  • If we sell Jones, then I suspect it'll be CM trying to prove to the US owners he can bring money in!
I would also suggest that the backlash against the SMT would be vociferous at the very least and more fans will vote with their feet!
CM is a 100 mph prat and it's the sort of stupid stunt he'd pull just to save his own skin.
Jones is by a very large margin the best defender we have, in fact I'd suggest one of the best players we have at the club!
Moving Jones on, no matter how much we're offered, will put pay to any chance, however remote, we have of making the play-offs, sadly CM and Scott are short-sighted enough to make such a stupid decision!
I can only hope Gavin Carter reads this and other SM to realise the damage it would do.
I want to see the US owners building a competitive squad, not allowing CM and Co. to make a few bob!
And whether Jones wants to stay or not has no bearing on anything?
There are ways to encourage players to stay: Decent new contract for starters

Selling Jones (assuming you are referring to Lloyd!) won’t mitigate much of our losses, which will likely run into the multi (multi) millions again.

The only way selling L. Jones in January makes sense is if:

    a) you think we have no chance of promotion so may as well cash in now, and/or;
    b) you think he’ll down tools if he doesn’t get a move this window (I don’t expect him to do that).

Probably the only player in the squad that we could sell that would make any sort of dent in our losses is Leaburn.

I agree selling Jones won’t mitigate much, but it might buy time for those under scrutiny.
  • I think you’re under estimating his influence on matters @Redmidland.
Again, 29 years of age with one last good contract possible and ambitions to play higher,  there are difficult decisions for him to make.

    1) Championship teams (and there is interest) comes knocking. Guaranteed step up + the financial benefits that brings.

2)Wycombe (or Wrexham) come knocking - they are top - can they keep it up and offer Championship football? Better positioned than Charlton.

    3) Stay at Charlton. Go up = great. Balance that with risking an injury set back / loss of interest or offers and end up staying in league one.
The constant finding a way to lay everything at the SMT’s feet and create a negative angle is ridiculous. There has been a lot of poor decisions / actions and hold those to account, but to suggest the only reason Lloyd leaving would be for CM to grab a quick cash win is just nonsense!
If he leaves for free to a championship club in the summer then we can have no complaints. That’s football

If we sell him this month then the regime will rightly be criticised as it would be massively shooting ourselves in the foot

  • We would get 500k at most for Lloyd Jones. Given how critical he has been this season to our defensive solidity, it would be madness and very short sighted to sell him. Especially as we look like picking up some form and challenging top six.

Would rather he left in the summer for free if he isn’t going to sign new terms.
Similar could be said of CBT (although not as vital a player).
  • Joe Gomez is injured for a few weeks, do that's another window when we won't see any transfer money from the resell clause...

Tbh not entirely clear to me what this ownership group have done to warrant this tone and level of negativity and cynicism.

They haven’t spent much money on playing staff explicitly I guess, but they’ve done quite a lot of sensible stuff and I have no reason to doubt their intentions.

    Maybe that’s just me.
I do think the ownership has good intentions also and they have appointed a SMT fir the day to day running and stewardship of the club. It’s really still early days for our owners and I’d expect that they’ll soon want to see progress on the pitch. If the SMT can’t deliver that, then I fully expect them to be replaced. The disappointment of this season lays firmly at the door of the SMT and Jones and not with the money. If Jones is sold I doubt the ownership will have much to do with it. It will be another nail in the SMT’s coffin. Can’t see how they avoid more failure by selling the best players, particularly to another league one club.
