Just a handful of glowing reviews about Etete on CardiffLife:
What happened to waiting for someone to pull on the shirt before judging them? Or does that only apply when they come with good reviews from their previous club?
I trust the judgement of football fans most of the time. They watch the players more than anyone so usually know what they're good and bad at.
I think everytime I've asked someone who is a good player from another club, they play well. It's extremely rare it goes the other way. These things aren't rocket science to me, and I can't understand how we have gotten so much wrong in recent years.
If you are a striker with ridiculous stats like 5 goals in 50 games, you're returning from injury, and your club (who are woeful atm) are looking to offload you, chances are, you're pants.
People will mention Yann, but he's an extremely rare example of it going the other way.
He'd more than likely be a pants signing if we signed him, that's my opinion, and hopefully I never get to find out if I am right or wrong about that.
People forget that Yann wasn't a bad player for Leicester, they just hate him for failing a panenka in the Play-Offs.
1 goal in 20 and loaned back to France pretty quickly. I’m pretty sure that on line comments from Leicester fans were not complimentary when we signed him
Kanu will be a good player but at the moment he seems to have 1 good game in 8. He's not ready to make a regular impact at this level yet. Loan would make sense.
1 game in 8 is very harsh!!!
Has he played 8 games? In his last game he scored a very well taken goal and hasn't been seen since. He's at the stage where he needs to be playing, and if NJ doesn't fancy him he needs to go out on loan in January. BTW the same applies to Asiimwe, I've no idea why he was recalled, he was doing very well on loan under Sir Lennie,
Just a handful of glowing reviews about Etete on CardiffLife:
Just the kind of striker Scott loves. From the Championship - tick, scored very few goals -tick, overrated and overpriced - tick. Has such little ball control he barely looks like a park footballer, let alone a pro - tick. Imagine him and Ahadme up front to together, go Scott!
Good job he don't chose the players then and its down to Jones
Someone is telling you porkies.
CM has said it and Jones has said it that was one of the main points he wanted before he joined hence the manager title and not head coach
us fans have no idea of the ability of a player. We can watch them play but we don't know what injuries they may carry, we don't know what coaching instructions they have been given, how they interact with the rest of the team and a number of other imponderables that affect the player's ability so to say that we do is incorrect.
Not saying I want us to sign Etete but he’s 23 and made 49 league starts and 42 league sub apps. He might be overrated due to his size, but he might also need to settle somewhere, and the Championship might be a step too far at the moment.
Strikers sometimes take time to mature and to find the right club, there’s loads of examples out there.
Carlton Morris is a more recent one - he caused us problems in the playoffs at loan at Shrewsbury in 17/18, but didn’t score many, something he continued for a few years. It eventually clicked at Luton where he became a 20 goal striker and they got promoted to the PL where he got into double figures.
Alfie May is described as a great player and natural goalscorer, but he never achieved that at EFL level until he left Doncaster.
I’d like us to make use of the loan market wisely instead of the injured players we’ve had the last few years. They can be the difference. Find another Cullen or Bielik.
If Etete had some game time under his belt this season i'd be more open to us signing him but what we don't need is another Fiorini coming in then told he'll need time to get fit. Anyone coming in needs to be ready to play and in good form similar to us signing Ramsey last January.

Ironically the year before we took Bielik he had a loan spell at Walsall where he didn't play because he was permanently injured. I was reliably informed by Ketts who wrote Dr Kish that Arsenal allowed him to come to us completely free of charge because he needed to prove fitness. In that case it was a gamble which paid off

Naively wasn’t aware of his time at Walsall. Cullen had some pedigree as he’d had previous successful loan spells.
If a forward comes in on loan I would like to think he is way and obviously better than Daniel Kanu. Kanu is a good player, a young player with promise who is one of our own. Don’t block his progress at Charlton by loaning an indifferent makeweight.
Less than half of the Ahadme figure was upfront, around 300k. The rest of it is based on goals scored and us getting promotion, so I wouldn't worry too much about us paying out for those

Where did you read/hear this?
Mate of mine works in football as an agent/advisor and is based in Suffolk, he told me the word up there was 300-350k upfront, roughly that again if we get promotion, and a bunch of add on fees for goals scored/time played and a small % of any sell on fee. No reason for him to lie about it so I believe him.

Paid off for them too after they then sold him for £9M.

Ladapo being the finest example of that. People on here were wetting themselves when we signed him and then when he turned out to be a dud, declared that we were not playing him the right way. Thomas Driesen would be turning in his duvet.
The whole point of a recruitment department is that you pay them to find the underperforming and thus undervalued talents who can be molded into something better for the benefit of the club. You pair them up with solid pros like Lloyd Jones, Greg Docherty and Matty Godden on the pitch to get the best out of them.
Otherwise we might as well let the fans vote on our next signings and end up with more Scott Frasers, Charlie Kirks and Freddie Ladapos.
I think Taylor will go, Jones doesn't rate him. Shame, I think he is a good player..
I can't see us signing Etete, unless there is a bid for Leaburn lined up, But as I said, anything close to 5 million will be testing.. Let's not forget, as good as his playing and stats are, his injury record isn't great, which has an impact on the value!
Personally, I think the club will hold off until the summer.

Thats 3 already this season and we are only in January.
