I wouldnt mind if the sides we were losing too were any good but they are just as shit as us
You want a guy that hasn’t managed in two decades and a guy that has never coached in the professional game and talks a lot of shit as a commentator?
  • That was bad enough to listen to so I feel for those who not only watched it but made the journey there........you deserve so much better.

I'm started to loose faith tbh.
How did Tel cope with the end of the match when there were 3 different Mitchells on the pitch?
  • Here our progress after 14 games in the last 4 seasons:
    2021/22 - W3 12pts, 2022/23 W4 19pts, 2023/24 W5 18 pts, 2024/25 W5 19 pts
No progress at all.  Something for the management to think about in the next board meeting.

  • All good Methven did another podcast this week. Anyone would think they didn't have a fucking clue what they were doing otherwise
  • Look at Peterborough United. They have a tiny budget compared to ours but their scouting system is fantastic. Every season they seem to find a player or two from nowhere who scores goals for fun and they play some beautiful football at times.
Ivan Toney , Epohron Mason Clarke , Jack Marriot , Sammi Smodicks , Siriki Dembele , Ronnie Edwards and now they have Kwame Poku who has ten goals already this season and scored at hatrick today in a 6-1 win.

Sure they all have to move on ( for massive profits) in time but their fans get to see some lovely football.

Why cant' we even come close to doing that ?

We'll never get Barry Fry off them but you do wonder if we could poach someone from them, surely that could make a difference to our recruitment?

We couldn't do it under their previous incumbents either .

Jones talked about injuries but many of them realistically don’t improve that team.

He said 10 players but mentioned Edun who despite not really being able to play was on the bench. He’s our 3rd choice LB/a back up CM.

Mannion isn’t going to create or score goals.

Watson is an average at best L1 player.

Aneke, a miss yes but only capable of playing 30 minutes. Doesn’t improve us in the first 60, and Jones admitted we weren’t good enough in the first half.

Turned out Anderson had an injury. Might have been better than Allan Campbell or Docherty, but Jones chose to sign them this summer.

TC’s pace is a miss, but Jones chose not to sign another winger, that’s on him. Unless you count Dixon, who couldn’t make the bench ahead of Hylton, despite Ahadme being back.

Dan Potts probably doesn’t start ahead of Gillesphey, but neither are starters is L Jones is fit.

Kanu would no doubt be in the squad, but Leaburn and Godden on paper at least is our best front two. Either way a different striker doesn’t get the FBs an midfield playing better football, other than Kanu being the best at chasing lost causes.

Jones and Ramsay were no doubt missed.

We do have injuries, but that points up is that ever season we have large squad but the back ups are not as good as the best starting eleven, and they are not thst good.
Your squad has to be made up of good quality players through out.  You should look at the players not making the match day squad and know any other team would have them in their starting eleven.
We have never has a squad any where near that good.
Do I believe we are the 4th highest spenders on players in the league, no!
  • It’s uncanny how we always seem to be missing the players that are not available. Regardless of who they are.
    Don’t recall missing Ahadme
  • I’m really pleased that I didn’t ruin my day in Milano by trying to watch the match during a tour of the Duomo, La Scala and Santa Maria delle Grazie to see l’ultimo Cena.
  • So many of the new signings just don’t look up for it. Campbell, Berry, Doc ! I was one of Abbie Morgan’s biggest critics but atleast he tried to bust a gut ! I’m sick of us losing players that apparently aren’t good enough and we can sign better ! Such as Dobson etc and replacing them with worse. I’m now back to feeling exactly the same as I felt when that twat Appleton was in charge these boring hoofball tactics are soul destroying and sucking any enjoyment out of watching my team. Holden and Garner atleast tried to play football

My point was most of the injured players don’t get in the starting 11, and those that are good subs wouldn’t have changed the poor first half.

On wages probably around there, the clubs share their budgets which is why Methven is able to estimate that’s how much we’re spending.

You don’t need 20-25 top quality players. Bowyer and Powell had plenty of average players making up their squads. Other clubs weren’t jealous that we had the likes of Wagstaff, Evina, Reeves, Marshall etc.

What this squad doesn’t have is enough players who could play at Championship level. We were supposed to get they in Docherty, Campbell and so on, but they look nowhere near it.

After today, I finally accept that we won't be in the promotion fight come the end of the season.

The players worked today, but there was no joined up play. Tippy tappy across the back then lump it forward.

Of course we had the chances to at least get a draw and probably take all 3 points. Trouble is May no longer plays for us, and I honestly don't think our performance warranted 3 points. Maybe one?

Leaburn has looked out of salts since his return. He is a huge talent,  but his attitude doesn't look quite right, and he definitely needs to loose weight.

Chucks, when played has been very average this season.

I think Jones sets us up wrong and uses the wrong players, often in the wrong position.

Of course we need a cm play maker or two, another striker, a gk and another cb.

NJ is frustrating, and I have little confidence in him right now,  but I agree that we need stability.

Edit: BTW, great numbers turned out today, but absolutely no vocal support from us, and little from Exeter. It wasn't that sort of game to get excited about, but I think it's as much the dross football served up all season. We all expect to be disappointed.

Take your point but the more immediate problem is we don't seem to have enough players who can play at League 1 level.

It's been the same all season, don't give anything away and then if we do concede hit it long and hope for the best. The midfield is full of the same type of player, no width and no guile, yes we should have scored but this is the worst football I've seen at Charlton in years.
Just wondering- when was it worse?
  • I really thought that Nathan Jones was finally the answer to our problems, but how wrong I was.

His record at Luton appears to be down to luck, rather than his managerial ability. Because the real Jones showed up at Stoke, and then the same Jones arrived at Southampton. Now he is floundering once again at Charlton.

Over the past few years I have seen many, terrible games, and many appalling performances. Today’s performance was up there with the worst of them.

i just don’t know where we go from here.

I now feel that we are well and truly cursed, I think we are not getting out of this division anytime soon.

    Depressing Times.

We’re 13th, couldn’t get closer to mid table if we tried. Surely that’s the definition of a squad full of L1 players. As things stand we don’t have to worry about Championship clubs being after many of them in January or next summer.
