New NJ interview, mainly talking about the importance of the fans.

I must admit that when I read the top line of your post I almost instinctively clicked lol.
Simply because it reads like damage limitation.
Of course it is nothing of the sort, nor is damage limitation required, but I do believe a lot more fans took NJs "absolutely abused by Charlton fans" to heart than the small minority he was no doubt referring to.

Looks like he's getting his "reasons for moving" excuses in early.

He is looking for a bigger job - easy to blame the fans as an excuse for a getaway.

Fact is that the performances against Stevenage, Blackpool and Bristol Rovers were pathetic and given the shite football we have been served up for many years, it’s no surprise that a few idiots will go OTT.

Disappointed with Nathan’s childish outburst and it tells me that he will opt out as soon as he is able to.
He'll struggle to get attention unless he improves our position lively.
  • That is a good interview with NJ on the OS.
I like him as a manager, the last few have been somewhere between poor and dross!
I hope he sticks with us and sees this project through.
As I said previously we have a minority of fans that want instant success and expect it in this day and age.
There will be poor games, it happens, but we need to understand that. As for dishing out abuse...just why? Criticism is fine but there are lines.
I also previously said if fans of today had been around and seen us in the 60's 70's and 80's we delivered absolute crap on many occasions but didn't get abusive.
We won't get a better manager then we have now seeing as we're a League one club that go through managers at an alarming rate.
NJ wears his heart on his sleeve and it can be his downfall at times.
If he thinks our fans are abusive, god knows how he'd cope with the Cardiff fans. Or the Millwall fans if he had got that job!

Write the season off again if he leaves, we're not getting anyone else near his ability or track record. I will say he is I think surprisingly think skinned for a football manager though
did you intend "thick" or "thin" skinned?

Are you still opted out as you often told us or are you back supporting?

  • At least Carsley is copying NJ tactics tonight for England

    4-2-2-2 😁
  • Seems like we played it better than they are at the moment. It's lucky the Greek striker wasn't as clinical as one might hope from an international forward there.

'think' .. is that a cross between thick and thin skinned, or does he contemplate through his pores ? (just jesting)

Booing Alfie May yesterday felt particularly brain dead.
Was it? Did Alfie May get a kick all game? Let’s make it nice and easy for him and then kiss and cuddle him if he scores! I liked Alfie May in a Charlton shirt and appreciate what he achieved. Yesterday he wasn’t in a Charlton shirt and for those 90 mins, hero status goes and and the only thing that matters are three points

I was talking to an ex Millwall player once and he said that Millwall arrive at the valley knowing that there will not be an atmosphere of hate towards them. He said that at the den, millwall could smell the fear

when was the last time we won at Millwall, when was the last time they won here?

abusing a manager after a bad run is brain dead. Making life uncomfortable for the opposition is par for the course.

how many wickets did Shane warne get by getting in the batsman’s head by sledging. Is that brain dead?
Agreed. When we played Rotherham United we gave Dillion Phillips ,who did a lot more than Alfie May ever did for Charlton, a good reception before and after the game, however during those 90 Minutes we made sure to give him the Away Goalkeeper treatment. I would have felt the same about Sean Clare (if it wasn't for that dreadful tackle he made).

When a manager is going mental at pre season games, like he was during the WIN against Pompey, you know it's going to be turbulent at times. Ironic though that he goes bat shit continuously but takes offence to fans doing the same when we've been looking awful.

Good manager but takes criticism incredibly personally... its going to be a interesting year.
Rather that than no passion (like we had with the last one) at all

I totally agree - the reaction after the Stevenage game by some made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

That being said, it has to be made clear that it’s only ever a small section of fans who take it that far.
Their the ones who seem to be in that Chris Davis world of 'Charlton spent a fortune. They’ve spent a lot of money on their squad'
when in all reality we have a good boss and a good
    recruitment structure.

And what makes you feel so confident to assert that without fear of  contradiction? The “good boss” thing is of course the matter of debate on this thread. May turn out to be true. Let’s hope so. The “good recruitment structure” ? Well if you know what the “structure” actually is, please share it, as most of us are still pondering that. As for the  outcomes, personally I’m 50:50 at best.

One thing we have spent wisely on though is the medical and fitness structure. I think that after the close season and season so far, with nearly everyone fit, that is an excellent outcome.
