It's ridiculous. Grown men frothing at the mouth to another human being. "It's football. Pay me money, Can say what I f******g like" You'll hear them chirp Remind me again what other working environment in the UK would any sort of vocal abuse be allowed let alone the kind of vitriol that is served up week after week to football players and managers? The bloke is there to do a job. Having some buffoon wallowing obscenities at you the whole time you're trying to do it must make it almost impossible. I get it's hard to police a whole stadium but there's no reason a couple of security guards can't be stationed next to every dugout who can turf out these clowns when they over step the mark. Times have changed. It's not on.

On I assume near minimum wage that seems unlikely to me. We aren’t a club that has such routine bad behaviour that seems to require much more than stewarding.
I’d have thought that generally peer pressure from fellow supporters keeps it in check / within normal boundaries in the context of a football atmosphere. I assume the seats near our dugouts are mostly long term season ticket holders.
Having looked and listened again at Jones's comments and after match interview, I believe that he let off steam, incorrectly in my view, due to pressure. His changes to the team shape and personal, were down to the team not having any attacking threat, he knows that he put this side together, he also knows that he brought coaches in to improve the quality of our forward play. Ahadme and Campbell up front were his decision, up to now that has failed, with only one goal scored between the two of them, it was his decision to let Alfie May leave, that being the case, then Jones probably feels that he has to prove he was right. The wing back formation was once again his decision and it's my opinion that the formation is one of the reasons that we haven't been as expansive as a team, yesterday we dispensed with it and went to a flat back four, it worked and Jones should take credit for that decision. I'm not so sure that Jones felt under pressure from supporters telling him who to pick but maybe feels pressure, rightly or wrongly, from decisions he has made and the need to justify those decisions.
When Jones was getting booked in games, or getting carried away in celebrations, he explained his behaviour in terms of emotional investment, sleeplessness, being at it 24/7 and so on, and said in that context he can get emotional and carried away. Fans devote their lives to the club, are always there, have huge emotional investment, are invited to turn up and sing and cheer and pay hard earned money over. For a man who explains his own emotional investment and behaviour as understandable, he should understand the same feelings from the fans. Heat and kitchens come to mind.
PS, the abuse of May, or opposition fan turn out (Fleetwood fans are heroes in my view) or opposition keepers and so on is pathetic and I don’t choose to join in. It is embarrassing watching fellow fans going over the top, but it is possible to detect the reasons why.
It's part of who he is, very emotional, always saying what he feels, sometimes not the diplomatic thing or at the right time, wears his heart on his sleeve. Not sure I'd want to work under such a volitile boss but the upside is that the praise and encouragement you'd get when it's going well would be immense.
It's one reason I discount "passion" or the lack of it when judging managers: just win games.
People would have hated Brian Clough as manager in the days of social media.
Don't give it out and then well up when it's given back. A good rule for life.
Like when an oppo player is given abuse for 80 minutes then makes a gesture or winks back and the same people who been ranting at them go ape 'how dare they!' and angrily clutch their pearls whilst frothing at the mouth.

He shouldn’t be getting ‘absolutely abused’, end of.
There’s a difference between passionate fans giving feedback and morons dishing out abuse, but I did expect this thread to miss the point with a lot of people who would say ‘he should understand’.

I think when Nathan says he’s learnt about himself properly in the context of receiving abuse then he probably is admitting that he would like not to be affected by abuse but currently he is. Healthily for him he wears his heart on his sleeve and hopefully will learn that you can choose how you respond, to what is put before you and if that is an abusive person then you can choose how you respond to that. We can all learn late in life that the best response to abuse is indifference.
According to many Charlton critics if you can't give personal abuse to players or managers you are WOKE.
Many of you must do the fire drill escape especially at away matches after inept displays and individual mistakes have led to defeat if you haven't seen Mr Angry and his side kicks frothing at the mouth, with bulging eyeballs and telling the players to "fuck off" if they attempt to clap the away 'fans'/ haters.
I have said my bit on the Match thread about Nathan Jones and his rant and personally I feel he has been unsettled by the potential interest by Cardiff. Mentioned by a reporter on the BBC and Jason Mohammed the Cardiff fan presenter said that could be interesting! This could be a false rumour but it's doing the rounds. Nathan Jones is a unique sensitive, slightly bonkers man who believes in God. He listens to voices and they upset him unless they say he will be going to heaven. For Charlton fans let's call Heaven, the Championship!
It's finding the balance between deserved criticism about the turgid nature of 8 of our performances including the wins and loses, yet Cafc look top 6 against Bolton and Birmingham. What a paradox.
Hopefully everyone kisses and makes up and this variety of 4-4-2 which caught the leaders out leads to more enjoyment performances and wins.
I’m sure this will be divisive but I want to say it anyway. In my opinion, fans lose all credibility when they abuse players or managers. Moan all you want, you pay your money and football is a game of opinions after all, but never abuse. Give feedback, say he was wrong, say he’s awful but don’t swear and abuse him. Grow up.
Adults screaming abuse at a man because he lost games of football? Seriously?
Agree but I think NJ is wrong to come out whingeing about it in his post match comments. He must know by now that the performances and results of the team will get an exaggerated reaction from fans and that it goes with the territory. Man up, and then show the abusers how wrong they are by the performances and results on the pitch.
Got the impression in his interview that he wasn’t just angry at the fans who abused him though. Sounded like something had gone on behind the scenes, referring on several occasions to learning a lout about his staff and team.
He said members of staff had come out of the woodwork saying "I told you so" etc. Can't imagine they'll stick around long, unless it's Andy Scott.
Not seen the full interview, but NJ needs to wind it in a bit. I know he's passionate, I know he's a 110%er, lives the game etc. so he should understand the fans feel the same way. Sometimes things boil over and it is a bit too much. But I'd also suggest openly expressing your love for another club searching for a manager is not the wisest of choices! He says "come and do my job and take the money" in one of the quotes. Well Nathan, that money is partly funded by us, so treat fans with respect and you'll get the same back. Winning games also goes a long way to creating something we can all "buy into" as well. Not saying the abuse is right. NJ has done a lot of good stuff, but you need to have thick skin as a manager, focus and block out the noise. Not dig fans out in interviews. COYA
Edit. I like Jones and I think he's the right guy for the job. I wish he'd be a bit more attack focussed, but he's doing okay and is building something. It will take time. But, I just wish he would shut the fuck up occasionally!
I have no doubt Jones can make us very competitive & I like his passion, but surely he’s experienced enough to know all clubs have whining fans, take the result and move on….less is more.
Sounds like he is getting excuses in before jumping ship to a certain club in Wales
if you want the praise, you have to take the criticism
am caveating that with,if it is personal abuse that is not on, but if it is ‘what the fuck are you doing’ abuse, then that is part of the role you are doing

He's currently 12/1 Skybet 6th favourite for the Cardiff job, i'd be surprised if he gets it but if you think he's going the odds are very generous.
All seems a bit unecessary exaggerated to me. The team has been awful in recent games and when that happens, sometimes fans have a bit of a vent. That’s football and happens at every club. He knows that, he’s been in the game long enough. Charlton’s fan base is far from being the most toxic so let’s not kick ourselves too much.
The fans were singing his name at Stevenage and again before and at the start of the game yesterday.
He’s a chippy fella, reckon he must fall out with people all the time. Digging out fans after a spell of the team being universally awful just seemed an unnecessary move to me, but hey ho, that’s his character
Exactly this!!!
It depends on the level of "abuse"
Fans have every right to "criticise" the team & Jones for recent performances but personal "abuse" is not ok
Jones is a confrontational character. It won't be the first or last time he falls out with the fan base. He will constantly divide opinion
Let’s face it we have a section of our fan base that enjoy the fervor of their righteous indignation more than actually supporting Charlton and joyfully give abuse to anyone associated with the club. I sat near a so called fan earlier this year who was constantly screaming every profanity at Coventry that you can think of. Mind you, Coventry was playing well but all this guy kept screaming was for him to shoot instead of passing followed by expletives even though there clearly no shooting lane. This heightened anger combined with their complete lack of basic understanding of the sport is really disheartening. Do all clubs experience this - yes. Is it a relatively small percentage of our supporters - yes. That being said, it has clearly been a growing percentage over the last ten years or so.
It sounds like he’s suggesting there has been internal noise about his team selections. Maybe too there has been contact from Cardiff and we are holding out for what they see as excessive compensation and he’s getting frustrated by that hence suggesting there is another job he can walk into but that’s just me summising, maybe.
It sounds to me he is fed up with the idiots who pile down to the front during games and give him a load of verbal, the usual kind of stuff, the f*** you , the C*** you, the you do not what you are doing you bastard type thing. I doubt very much the Cardiff owners are looking to him, more like some unknown overseas manager that is the modern way.
