Alfie is really very good.... at one specific thing. When the set up and formation are right to give him chances then he's always a goal threat, and that's a very useful tool to have.
But he's very used to being the big fish in the pond (justifiably so given his record) and maybe that’s where he had issues with Jones.
I'll risk repeating myself from before the season, whether selling Alfie was good business or not ? we will see at the end of the season but its undeniable fact that he didn't want to be here anymore and it's probably true that Jones wasnt distraught to see him leave. Now the fact he wasn't Jones main man in the team may have been a contributing factor to May deciding to leave but you only need an iota of sense to see that it wasnt the main or even a large reason for going, again - 31/32years old, wife from the north of England who takes most of child care responsibilities, never earned a huge amount, offered life changing contract and playing for a team which is pretty much nailed on to achieve something - I don't blame him.
But ignoring all the reasons, if we achieve play-offs this season it was good business. As for anyone saying play-offs isnt good enough we need to be top 2, have a bit of humility. just because we are a big name in this division doesnt mean we have an automatic right to success and there are teams just as big with more financial resources. I'd love to get promoted automatically but its a bonus, also Alfie being here doesn't guarantee automatic promotion, just like it didnt guarantee last season for us or previous season for Cheltenham

Because it's not true. He has a fantastic touch, can play off both feet, is clever with his movement and timing of runs and is an intelligent enough footballer to have been deployed wide right, wide left and in the 10 under multiple managers. He's not Macauley Bonne.

Recently both May and Jones have come out and said they were being abused by our fans. Where does this abuse take place? I'm not on twitter but is it there? Or are they reading forums? Would be interesting to know and are they actually real fans giving the abuse. I struggle to see it.

There was a absolute bellend on twitter last week saying May's "wife was a whore, and his Dad was a police informant".
I see so much horrible stuff online aimed at players by people who don't have the testicular fortitude to say it to their face. But the sad truth is the players and their families do read it and it does affect them.
Yes there's a small percentage of morons who say abusive stuff (like the example you listed) but most of the time it's just an opinion and not abuse, then the players families and friends seem to take it personally on here (and socials).
Case in point would be players like Inniss (and he isnt the only one by far) who at times had seemed to have a cult following on here and couldn't be blamed for anything. What does one constitute as horrible ? I have said before there are players who shouldnt have been at this club (I.E Inniss, Isted etc), would i say that to his face ? I probably wouldnt walk up to him whilst he is with his family or minding his own business but if he asked me directly should i be playing for Charlton I would of told him i dont think he is good enough.
Inniss didn't have a cult following. He had the majority of the site calling him a caveman psychopath liability and blaming him for every goal we conceded, and a small but vocal gang of basically just me observing that he may also have some positive personal and professional qualities too

The vast majority of people here would say he was liability due to his temperament and his inability to concentrate for a full 90s mins (both of which are evidentially true in my opinion), and it wasnt just you, there was a small number of people who clearly had connections to him and would complain that fans had a negative opinion of him as a footballer and would counteract every instance of criticism with "YoU WouLDNt SaY THAt to HiS FAce tHo" or make excuses for him to blame others.
As for him as an individual, I don't know him but know people that do and by all accounts he is a very nice chap and he did a lot for the community stuff whilst here, I wish him no ill will and im glad to see this season is going well for him so far. I wish him all the best.

I’m doing it because he went through a goal drought here last season and everyone found a way to blame everyone else. Alfie was, still is for some, golden boy.
Now he’s in a better team it’s valid to point out that it’s still happening.

Alfie might be getting more minutes if Stansfield’s injury is a more serious one..
