No one has mentioned Chucks appearing to be dragged to the floor at the far post. Was it a penalty? I thought Ahadme and Campbell played well. They were always available and clearances stuck up there which is so important. They refused to give their defence a minutes peace and softened them up for the finishers to come on. Hit the crossbar, poss Penalty and a very good goal, v their two shots on target. Great result and well deserved.
Looked like a 50/50 from where I was sat. Could have been given but Chuks seems to get absolutely nothing from referees
We were the better team without creating many clear cut chances against a horrible time wasting, shirt pulling, playing for a draw from minute one Orient.
But in the end we took the best chance we had and then did what good teams do ie kill the game, take it to the corner and see the game out. How did your own medicine taste, Leyton?
No outstanding performances but L Jones and Mitchell impressive, Small and Ramsay bombed forward, TC ran them ragged, Mannion not really tested but claimed some corners well.
Set pieces and corners still not troubling the opposition enough but it's early days.
The Edwards injury the only downer in what was otherwise an excellent home start.
Met two of the US owners pre-game, two guys who seem very committed to the project.
Without breaking any confidences @HenryIrving could you elaborate on what our US owners had to say ?
They love the museum, love that the club has so much history (we gave them and their sons each a leaflet with a potted history of the club - copies available from the museum) and they are both big Who fans so loved our displays on the two concerts.
Said as ever when taking over a business you find things you didn't know about that have to be sorted out but it was expected and they dealt with them. They didn't specify.
Friedman and Rosenfeld are brothers in law, which I didn't know.
Four of their sons were also there so hopefully the next generation are getting the bug too (the Micheals to Albert and Stanley perhaps if that isn't a damning comparison)
Nothing else I can share, no transfer gossip but they see the need for stability and long termism. They may have started out as investors but now see themselves as fans.
Very friendly and personable guys.
Did they suggest hanging up one of Sandgaard's guitars in the museum...?
I won’t name him, but my highlight today was bumping into a lifer before the game who I know has had a hell of a year health wise. He’s a fantastic bloke and just seeing he’s down the Valley again and on the road to recovery made my day 💪
My heart can’t take a whole season of this. First half was absolutely shocking and Orient really should have scored that chance Gillesphey gifted them. They pressed much higher than us and left us punting hopeless long balls forward while they played the ball around pretty comfortably.
Second half they seemed to tire and we got a lot more forward momentum. If not for Small’s comedic crossing we might have been ahead a bit earlier.
I’m still at the point where I can’t work out if we’re a rubbish team scraping wins or a good team just doing what we need to do. Either way Bolton next week will be the biggest marker yet.
Special mention also for a truly embarrassing referee.
We weren’t rubbish in the first half. We just weren’t quite as expansive as we’re all used to seeing over the last few years where we’ve had to score 3 to win any game. We were solid, fit, disciplined and professional.
Jones has addressed what needed addressing. Our ability to keep clean sheets and long may it continue.
People criticising Ahadme need to look at why their defence was so tired at the end. He didn’t give them a moments peace. He didn’t have a great game, but he and Campbell were quite relentless in not giving those defenders time. Meaning that when Aneke came on he could simply bully them time and again.

Oh, trap three in the first East Stand bogs still has a broken lock, entering the third season now. I mean how difficult is it to repair. I'd rather not poo with a crowd watching if you don't mind.
Why do you keep going in there then?
I mean, can't you go before you leave home? Or wait until you get back?

In Jones we trust. As a tactic, running, and pushing, and pressing, seems oddly ineffective and a bit boring, if that's all we do, but that is pretty much the size of it. We just wear out the opponents. It's like a marathon. Survival of the fittest. Then we just pop one in and everyone's happy.
I'd love for someone to ask him if this is 'it' when it comes to the new Charlton way.
Pretty sure he doesn't care about pretty football, so long as the 3 points keep rolling in, which I guess is his job, that he will keep longer than anyone else lately if he is here in May.
Sean Clare left us one full season ago, of our starting line up only TC had played with him .. that is a hell of a player turnover, so it may take a while to click, but we currently have potentially a better midfield and defensive squad than previous few seasons especially with depth. When it comes to the forward line until a fully fit Leaburn returns, and we see more of Godden I think we have a problem. Ahadme is not giving me confidence he can replace half of May's goals.
But we are two games in with 100% record and we could have a great season.
I managed to watch on a somewhat dodgy stream. There are so many new players that I can’t really judge them individually yet. I do like the way our passing looked so assured through the lines but we’re toothless up front.
The only individual judgement I will make is that after playing a key role in our recent crap history, Sean Clare has now risen to 3rd place in my most hated Charlton players of all time.
Loved Small geeing up us oldies in the Lower West towards the end of the 2nd half. Seems to be enjoying it here.
shame that he supposedly cant be arsed and is looking to move, not what I saw today, thought he looked a threat.
Never underestimate people's ability to see a player have an off day and claim they're not interested in playing anymore. I remember Rhoys Wiggins going off injured against Palace and more than one poster claiming that he'd pretended to be injured and cried off because Zaha was giving him such a hard time down the left. He'd broken his foot.
Coventry, Ramsay and Jones were absolute class. Everyone else played well too. Ahadme getting stick unfairly in my opinion, bullied their defence all game and paved the way for Aneke to come on against tiring players.

That's a lovely thing to read 🤗
What was the attendance today?
Wow thank you 😊
It’s given at the end of the match reports on the App

I thought it was a pen but the ref seemed to allow that sort of play. I thought he was very poor today. He didn't favour either team but not sure how Clare's dangerous tackle wasn't a red any day of the week. There were spells when he missed fouls on both sides and that affected the game. Beckles thought he had a free pass to foul Aneke then suddenly got pulled up for it.
In the second half, Orient showed no ambition and they did frustrate us with bodies in the box but you can always concede when you set up like that. I thought Chuks looked good physically which may be an illusion but could also be promising.

Did you miss Campbell, Ramsey and Small skinning some of their players? As for oddly ineffective, Chucks left a defender in his wake. Has he suddenly got pace or was the defender knackered? It is the sum of all parts that will give us an edge, and for a team just getting to know each other I think it has been impressive. Let’s face it, you don’t have to look back too far to see how far pretty football gets you in this league.
Never a truer saying than you have to win the battle for the right to play.

I was expecting him to pull up with his hamstring with that run!

Needs to stop holding his marker’s shirt, then we might get a few free kicks / penalties. All time he doing that, then the ref give us anything.
Chuks could have had his legs removed by a chain saw and that Ref would wave play on then book Chuks for bleeding all over the pitch, 'effing idiot !
Seen all 3 games so far and in each game for the majority it's been awful. The game only changed as all around me were crying out for a change up front. As an ebbsfleet fan and we need all the help i wouldn't want our number 9 he is useless.
But a wins a win and lots of these types will go the other way.

Think he's in there regularly from what other people were saying.

Edit: Also, that Gerry Adams doesn't age at all does he.

Bolton next ...let's put on a show.
