  • As an aside, having a reliable designated decent penalty taker is an important feature of any team.

    Quick poll.

Wonder if our stand out signing of the summer has already been made, or yet to be signed.

The one that makes other clubs fans (and ours) go, "Oh really!"

    I'm plumping for:
    Yet to be made
I'd be surprised if there was a stand out signing, I think it's going to be more a sum of the parts.
So you don’t think we’ve signed good players so far ?
Didn't take you long. Good players or stand out players ?

    Quick poll.

Would you like me to repeat the question ?
You can ask it as many times as you like, if you don't understand the difference between stand out & good that's your problem. Trot on.
And you didn’t answer did you! just your constant negative nonsense.
To be fair, he made a completely fair point; not even negative. It was your decision to change his words.
He’s always negative it’s boring if you don’t think Berry and Mitchell are good signing then you’re clueless.
That’s fine, but jump on the posts where he’s actually said something negative. There was a discussion about ‘stand out’ signings not good signings.
Is Berry not a stand out signing for our league then ?
Hard to say. I don’t read other teams forums enough to know how shaken up they are. Hopefully we’ll be saying he was come the end of the season.
  • Sounds like Ahadme is very close judging by the other forum. Not sure about the song though..!
Had a quick look - also sounding more positive about May staying, from both our end and a Huddersfield fan.

A fully grown man ladies and gents.
You're looking for eloquence on a football forum when someone is twisting my words. Sorry blah blah blah sums him up.
Are you alright little Bob ? Cheer up we’re signing good players.

Oh I'm very well thank you.

  • Ahadme sounds decent.  Some thoughts on him when he joined Ipswich..

Strong, brings others into the game, hard worker. Good in the air. Out and out striker who doesn't drift wide.

Obvs a couple of years old so he will have developed further since.

Huddersfield forum is in proper meltdown mode. Some saying "pay Charlton what they're asking for", others saying the opposite, handbags are out...

Think the money they got for Rudoni might have changed it entirely. Did have a peep at their main forum and there's a few accusations of us running an "auction" which I found quite amusing.

Ahadme to play alongside May would be excellent. That would be quite the strikeforce at this level.

With Leaburn and Kanu on the bench and Aneke when fit.  Quite the 5.

I'd be happy with that 5 , obviously there's always going to be a bit of a concern about how much you'll get from Chuks and Miles but I'm hoping the investment in the sports science side and Dr Abbott can help with that a bit.
  • I had a look on the Cambridge forum, it seems Ahadme was injured a fair bit whilst on loan there last season. Other than that he looks fairly decent.

Doesn't pre-season start next Thursday? I thought we would have done more business by now if I'm being honest. Hopefully a busy week ahead.
Technically it’s 4 players if Mitchell is done which is a lot more than usual before pre season, I think Jones has put un needed pressure on himself by saying it’ll be done when in hindsight it’s so rare to have your squad sorted by then but hopefully 2/3 next week and that’ll take us up to 6/7 which isn’t to bad.
Still not enough & the 4 or 5 new players ncludes 2 GK's. We are still a very long way off assembling a squad that could get top 6, let alone automatic promotion. I'm not sure if a couple of defenders, 2 GK's & a midfielder on the wrong side of 30 could be described as squad rebuilding.

    Ho hum.

I get where your coming from Golfie, we’re miles off at the moment, but let’s hope we are in a much better place with signings in a months time.

Football forums, and patience don’t seem to go hand in hand.
The difference this year is Jones set the expectation that the squad would largely be in place in time for preseason.

With that being less than a week away it’s not looking like it’ll happen. We need around 8-10 signings and a handful of players to move on.
Let’s get real, we’re not going to have made another 5-6 signings in the next week, 1-3 perhaps?

The hardest thing to do is stay chilled, the easiest thing to do is get stressed out about it, take your pick!

    I'll open the box...🙄
    I’ll take the money.

Ahadme is a signing I like the look of. My favourite type of striker is one who is strong and can hold the ball up the pitch while also being good with his feet and we haven't had one of those in a while. Yann, Fuller, Taylor, we've had some good ones in the past and hopefully Ahadme will be another. Him, May, Leaburn, Chuks and Kanu could be very exciting, fair bit of variety there.
Well I admit Ahadme doubts but you convinced me...
    Omar Bogle anyone?

If Maatsen is sold by Dortmund we'll get a bit of a solidarity payment for him.  If he goes for £40m that's another £200k into the transfer kitty I believe.  Not to be sniffed at
How does that work seeing he was never our player? A thank you from Chelsea written into the loan contract?
Solidarity payments are made to any club that played a part in the players' development between the ages of 12 and 23 I believe.  We had him when he was 19 so are entitled to  a percentage of the fee.  This only applies if a player moves to another country.  Same applies to Joe Gomez if he goes to Bayern - and we would get a lot more as he was with us for many years so he would be more like a million if he goes for £40m
Let's hope they sell Gallagher as well then

Maatson was only on loan at Dortmund though, so even though he is moving on, it will be a sale from Chelsea to Villa, assume this means we wont get the payment?

  • Has May gone anywhere yet, or is there a load of heat, and no light on this thread?
  • Fully appreciate this is random, but i got a taxi to the airport the other day and the driver was an Orient fan. We started talking about Pratley but then he was raving about Idris El Mizouni, who they've had on loan from Ipswich for the last 2 seasons and is a player who obviously is unlikely to get into the Ipswich side. Anyway this guy said he hoped Orient could get him again but had heard a rumour we were interested.

Don't know much about the player, but is he any good?
A triple signing of Walton, El Mizouni and Ahadme would be lovely. If only!
