If Maatsen is sold by Dortmund we'll get a bit of a solidarity payment for him. If he goes for £40m that's another £200k into the transfer kitty I believe. Not to be sniffed at
How does that work seeing he was never our player? A thank you from Chelsea written into the loan contract?

Maatsen is still a Chelsea player and we wouldn't be entitled to anything as far as I am aware as we only took him on a loan contract
Could we not switch this repetitive too and fro about the new pitch and it's relative funding to the thread about the new pitch...and maybe get back to the rumours that there may or not be...just an idea,🙄
Could you stop repeatedly posting memes, particularly the monkey and the drum, which has lost any humour it once may have had;)
Well, at least I haven’t seen this one before. So, that makes a refreshing change.
IF May is sold we will have to rely on other players getting a few goals rather than having all our eggs in one basket. Last season we were one hamstring injury away from disaster with Alfie. So as a hypothetical...
We need a couple of strikers to get double figures (say 15 + 10), another gets maybe 8, our attacking midfielder gets maybe 8 a couple of midfielders to bag 6 or 7 (7 + 7) as well as the wingers doing the same (7 + 7). Then our defenders could all get three or four (3+3+4)
That's 79 goals with no one player really setting the league alight
That's how TEAMS do it. As a collective. Not reliant on one person.
Portsmouth last season had 2 players in double figures (21 & 12) but collectively shared their goals out. Derby had one player in double figures with 14 (James Collins), Bolton had 2 (16 & 10) (3 if you count Collins of Bristol Rovers) Peterborough had 4 (14, 11, 11, 10goals) and Oxford had 2 with 15 & 13) so it just shows having one striker is not necessarily the key to getting out of this league.
We had 23 from Alfie and the next highest as Kanu on 6
Food for thought. Obviously keeping them out at the other end also comes in handy!

Solidarity payments are made to any club that played a part in the players' development between the ages of 12 and 23 I believe. We had him when he was 19 so are entitled to a percentage of the fee. This only applies if a player moves to another country. Same applies to Joe Gomez if he goes to Bayern - and we would get a lot more as he was with us for many years so he would be more like a million if he goes for £40m

We all know what makes a good team and teams who are successful have goals spread around the pitch. That is obvious to anyone who knows football.
When we got promoted last we had Taylor and Grant in double figures by Christmas. The time before we had BWP, Yann and Jacko in double figures come the end of the season.
The issue here is not May scoring 20+ goals, we had the same Taylor and BWP, the issue is we do not have the players elsewhere in the team to score the goals to get into double figures.
That is why it is madness to sell May right now, if we sold him, because he is not the issue, it's everyone else.
Why is it that I'm barely looking this thread because I'm not expecting much to happen when I feel that I should be? My bed is dry for now, but we've less than a week of June to go. Something feels a bit off to me. In Jones I hope.

Makes sense, but why not keep May and that 15 becomes 20+ and 79 becomes 84+?
We need to spread the goals around regardless of whether May is here or not.
Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the permanent signing of highly-rated defender Alex Mitchell from Millwall for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old was a key part of a Lincoln City side that had the second-best defence in Sky Bet League One last season.
Mitchell has signed a three-year contract with the Addicks and becomes Nathan Jones’ fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Will Mannion, Luke Berry and Josh Edwards.
He said: "I'm very happy to get it done early doors. As soon as I knew Charlton were interested it was a no-brainer for me. It's a massive club. I played against Charlton last season and last time I came to The Valley I was in awe of the stadium. I thought the fanbase was top so I'm really looking forward to it.
"My chats with Nathan [Jones] have been really positive. He made it clear that he wanted me and to feel valued like that was a big part in me coming here. I can't wait to work with him."
Nathan Jones commented: "Alex is someone I’ve known for a while so I’m really pleased to bring him to Charlton. He has gone out on loan and played games which is important for a young lad. He is someone that is an excellent defender and someone that will make us stronger, more competitive and more aggressive.
"He has so much scope to grow. He’s 22 and played a lot of games and is nowhere near his ceiling. He did fantastically well at Lincoln last season and was a big part of their strong push in the second half of the season. He’s a player I'm very excited to work with."
Technical Director Andy Scott said: "We’re really pleased to be able to bring Alex to Charlton. He had an outstanding season at Lincoln City last year, showing real promise in a side that proved very difficult to beat and play against. We believe he is a player that has all the attributes to be grow into a top defender at this level and above. He has excellent pace and strength, is aggressive and is a leader but also reads the game well and is good on the ball.
"In Nathan, we have a Manager that will work with players and help take them to the next level.
We are delighted Alex chose to join us as he was highly sought after and I’m looking forward to watching him progress with us."
Mitchell joined Millwall in 2018 where he was voted Academy Schoolboy of the Year after immediately catching the eye.
He enjoyed an impressive spell on loan at Bromley in 2021 before joining Leyton Orient for the 2021/22 season.
Another successful loan followed in 2022/23 at Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone, where he was named the Saints Young Player of the Year.
His performances attracted the interest of the Imps who signed him on loan for the 2023/24 season. He played a vital role in a defence that conceded just 40 goals, with only promoted Derby County conceding less
Welcome Alex, and pleased with this one, even with the Millwall connection, get him in the red of Charlton and he will be just fine, and on a good 3 year contract, now keep 'em coming Nathan...
