A scrappy game at the Valley sees Charlton win 3-2 to deliver Nathan Jones his first win at home. We got off to a slow start. Twenty minutes in Carlisle found a route ahead through a set piece that was, eventually, scooped in. It was a soft goal to concede. It wasn’t until 37 minutes that Charlton found the equaliser through talisman Alfie May getting on the end of some hard work from Daniel Kanu.
An unchanged Charlton started the second half with more vigour. Shortly after the restart, May found Kanu with a beautiful sweeping pass forward into the box. After scuffing his first effort, the hard-working Kanu was able to finish on the second. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived when Carlisle’s Armstrong tucked away a penalty gifted through a bit of carelessness from Gillesphey, even though it was soft. Nonetheless, there was a final twist when former Addick Sam Lavelle made an error going back to his keeper that let May nip in and slot past the keeper for the winner.
It wasn’t a classic, but we did have seventeen shots, showing our willingness to have a pop, with seven of them on target. New signing Conor Wickham made his debut to good effect, providing a bit of size and muscle to see out the win. And Alfie May bagged two to keep up his goal-scoring momentum.

Nah! Can't get used to all this joy...15

Nathan Jones....
Ten wins in 38 games...three of those in the last five. He knows what he's doing.
Alfie May...the new Mendonca.
We are going places.7 -
Result more important than the performance. We should have score more and at same time looked a but soft at the back. Alfie back to his best and with Kanu a real pain in the arse for defenders.
May probably out for the rest of the season after stacking it on the tunnel jump.
I also know that it in about 3 years time I'll wake up in the middle of the night wondering how their player didn't get booked for the most blatant pull back I have ever seen.

Bring back Holden, he was such a nice man.23

Probably the worst five goal thriller I’ve ever witnessed. Dire game. Zero quality on show. But a win is a win is a win and we are surely now pretty much safe from the dreaded R word. Highlight of the day was Alfie landing on his arse attempting a bootless tunnel jump. We could argue that a lamentable Carlisle dragged us down a level or plead tiredness after a pile of games in short order. Or maybe we’re just a mid tier side in a piss poor league.Anderson turned in a performance of Charlie Kirk levels of competence, the difference being that young Karoy clearly gives a f••k. He should have been rested today and hopefully will be hence forward. Other than Alfie and Kanu (why does Charlotte continually refer to him as “Canoe”?) that was a team full of 6 out of 10 performances. But it was good enough and that’s the main thing.Notable assist from agent Lavelle. Nice chap.9

Or Appleton who played good honest football!CAFCTrev said:Bring back Holden, he was such a nice man.3 -
Dobson was brilliant today- great performance alongside Coventry.43

Poor performance from a tired team.
Conceded two at home to the worst team in the league.
All irrelevant.
We won.
That's it.13 -

Contrast Alfie May's face to how grumpy he looked under Appleton.Bedsaddick said:

Brownie: "Nathan is the first manager in a long time...where we needed him more than he needed us."
I'm not a big Brownie fan but he's spot on about this. Appleton, Holden, Garner (who I believe would have gotten a L1 job at some point but was managing in L2), Jacko, Adkins, Bowyer, Robbo, Slade, Fraye, Riga, Luzon.
A lot of coaches with their first job in management (Fraye, Luzon, Jacko, Bowyer, Holden, Riga) and a lot of managers on their way down the leagues (Slade, Apples, Adkins).
Robbo and Garner probably felt about right for the level. Peeters kind of in that mix for me as well.
It's been...a long time.

10 point cushion which, given our goal difference is 4 wins. Can they make up 4 wins in the 10 games they have left?
I think and hope not. That said we need to win a few more to keep up the momentum.5 -
Absolutely spot on. We didn't choose Jones, he chose us!SDAddick said:Brownie: "Nathan is the first manager in a long time...where we needed him more than he needed us."

Were like a nerd that got asked to the prom by prom queen.14 -
Well done Wickham for the part you played.24

According to Louis Mendez, Henderson has not been involved in warm ups, because he is injured (Charltonised)8

Carlisle weren’t too bad, all things considered. We’ve played worse teams this season. Just shows what a weird league this is.Coventry is very good, and Wickham looked really sharp. No Tuesday game, so an opportunity to take stock.9

Complaining about a home win when it was so long since the last one !
Nathan Jones decided he doesn't really want to change a winning team unless he had to because of injury. Check out the team over the last 3 games. You are giving young Anderson loads of stick again but the manager wants him to play his way through this because of his work rate.
Heavy favourites to win today and the difference in attitude is amazing and IF he feels Anderson needs a rest he will do it.
3 wins and 4 draws from last 7 games is an amazing turn around after heading only one way before the arrival of NJ.17 -
At least now for Dobson he can stop worrying about yellow cards, unless he gets another 6 before end of season1

After 30 mins at 1-0 down with other scores going against us it was starting to look rather dodgy again.
But at FT, with most teams around or below us not winning I felt relief again.
Not 100% safe but do I think we'll go down.....not a cat in hells chance. Probably only need another 4 points but I think we'll get 52-54.
And I think we'll seal safety in one of our home games in early April. And I might actually be at one of them 😄.6 -
JUST WIN GAMES………,oh wait!1

How...how?
Honestly it's kind of what he was like as a player. Had a dodgy shoulder(s). I think we built like a soft landing area on the training ground so he didn't have to fall on the shoulder as much (I mean it's probably a good idea in general).4 -

Not a great performance, in fact it was dire! However a few weeks ago we would've lost that game. Now, we can win ugly and also win after going behind. NJ has given this side confidence and a never say die attitude. Dobson and Coventry were excellent together, May is inching back to form and Kanu is an outstanding prospect! We still have mistakes in us at the back but I'm sure NJ will get those ironed out. Great flick from Wickham for May's goal, his first touch of the ball I think!
Onwards and upwards, get to a safe place and build for next season.7 -
A game that illustrates our whole season. Stats show only 6 teams have scored more goals but only 2 have conceded more - one of whom we played today. Defence just not good enough yet to challenge next season but still going in right direction.0
