And the move to Root proves to be one merely for the two main spinners to swap ends with Bashir returning at the other end

Following that one over spell, Bashir is replaced by Root. 50 partnership (86) between Kamran and Saim

    69-2 (24)

Almost a return to the days of Inzamam ul Haq with one of those habitual run outs he used to be involved in

And the game of "musical chairs" returns with Bashir replacing Leach at the end he originally started at. Fully expect Leach to now bowl the next over.

That is what happens as Leach comes back for his 84th spell of the morning

Potts comes back for Bashir. There surely hasn't been many mornings on the first day of a Test match with quite as many bowling changes as we've had today.

And Carse returns too, at the other end

Pitch isn't actually doing all that much. Bit of turn but England still having to search for that sideways movement. Nothing for the seamers in their first spell unless one kept low after hitting a crack. Still be hard work taking wickets first up I think

Pakistan really won't be too disappointed as they head to lunch on 79-2 (29)

Quite a good test match wicket at the minute. Fingers crossed it doesn't completely disintegrate and make both side's 2nd innings a farce

Unless this is a totally re-invented team in terms of "over my dead body" attitude, as much as things might look good for Pakistan at 98-2 (36), they will have a collapse of epic proportions at some point in this Test match.

Kamran Ghulam is in the small but combative mould, definitely looks a step up on the middle order we've seen so far

Hopefully Stokes is fit enough for a little burst as it is moving

This series is a good test of Smith's wicket keeping, seems to be doing fine so far

Yeah considering his lack of experience with the gloves he's done well so far. One clanger of a missed stumping in the first test is the only mistake I can recall

150 up, courtesy of an outside edge off Stokes who has got a higher percentage of balls to do something in his two overs of reverse swing than any other bowler today

Potts now looking a different bowler with the scuffed up ball to the one that opened with the new one

Potts strikes to dismiss Saim for 77 (160) thanks to Stokes both in terms of that short straight position on the drive and him taking the catch too

Pakistan with a 149 partnership to show some spirit before Potts gets the break through.

2 sessions of predominantly spin & yet we are still 3 overs short. Given the extra 30 mins allowed those 3 "lost" overs should be made up but is it time for the Governing body to look at what should be expected in a days play  ?

(I think we "lost" 20 overs over the first 4 days last week)

When was the last time England's 5 main bowlers came from 2 counties?

Reverse swing should be as much a factor as new ball swing here.

Excellent catch from Smith to a ball that shaped away from Carse to Saud
