  • Leaburn scored a pretty nice goal, and we won.
Not only that it was from a cross by fellow academy graduate Asimwe which added a nice element.
Doesn’t matter if he had a face like a smacked arse occasionally, he scored we won shalt be the whole of the law as it were.

One thing I did notice last night, Leaburns whole body language and facial expressions, didn’t seem overly happy at all, even after scoring.
Glad you (and @redbuttle) mention this because I've had that feeling for a couple of games now. Some moments where with the ball at his feet in or near the box with defenders around him he seemed more intent on showing his "rich talent" than doing something effective with the ball. But on the other hand it might be that he's annoyed with himself that he isn't getting the end product, not least goals. That might be supported by Apples not taking him off for Tedic. Fear I'm clutching at straws though.
I think he’s got the strop because he was ‘the man’ getting the goals and the glory not that long ago, but now it’s all about Alfie May.
  • Thought the coverage on BBC was pretty good. Nice to see Lisbie get a plug in for Charlton TV. Also great that Danny Murphy looked frozen by the end, ahh well not to worry.
Murphy really doesn’t like to mention/be reminded that he played for the Addicks, does he?

Thought Lisbie sized him up well with his comment about doing all the hard work scoring when Murphy had put the corner in (comments about a clip of them player together at Charlton)
You are right though, think he likes to be seen as a Liverpool player. Perhaps easier for bragging rights with Shearer and Lineker back at the beeb.
  • Not only did they keep mispronouncing Erith, but unless I misheard it I thought he said we're playing Gillingham (pronounced with a hard G like Gillingham in Dorset, instead of a J sound) in the next round.

PWR - was amazed Tedic didn’t get a run out at all. I think he’ll be going back in January.

Definitely expect him and Chem Campbell to go back (I actually think there's a player there with Chem Campbell but something isn't working for Appleton)

For Appleton to bring on Mbick instead of Tedic does confirm a lot for me.
I was with you until the last sentence. Think Mbick got a run out because the game was won and it’s good to give youth players minutes. Clearly worked too as I thought he looked good

Yeah I get that's probably actually more likely , same with Kedwell - will be interesting to see who starts against Sutton next week as that's probably a fairer judgement of things than being 5-1 up against a Non League side.

If you listen to Micky Apples post match interview it sounds like Ness getting flack for his part in the penalty unfairly. It appears the keeper called leave it believing it would reach the area but misjudged it. Then misjudged it again by kicking the player rather than the ball. Almost comical.
It's definitely more a keeper error but I still think Ness hasn't covered himself in glory. He's got a very rapid attacker playing off his shoulder, when he realises that defender is shaping to play the long ball he needs to set off early to give himself any chance of staying ahead of Lisbie. I think he set off a bit too late and that allowed the situation where the ball was dropping into a bad area. It's not exactly a hanging crime but just something he can learn from

I agree. It was a great chance for a 17 year old prospect to get a taste of the limelight.

Even before the game started and they were shaking hands with Cray, my wife said (of Leaburn ) who’s that fella he doesn’t look interested.
  • Have to say I hadnt heard of Mbick until last night & I follow the yoof!

    Is he highly rated?

A most enjoyable second half, although the comedic defensive cock up before half time brought back a few old insecurities. Ness misjudged the flight of the ball and failed to track Lisbie’s run but Walker’s attempt to clear the danger was, to put it mildly, unathletic. We really have to hope that Ashley Maynard-Brewer stays fit.

A thoroughly professional performance in the second half put the tie to bed and we were out of sight by the 60th minute. May, Dobson and Asiimwe were excellent and Jones brought a calm authority to us at the back.

What a great moment for the young lad, Mbick, to get on the scoresheet. I confess I’d never heard of him, although I’m told he’s only just turned 17. A good opportunity to get Kedwell some minutes as well.

Taking into account the combined £75K TV money for the 2 games, the £41K prize money for winning and the few bob from our 40% of the net gate receipts, this tie must be the most that. Charlton have earned from an FA Cup tie for some years.
The defensive cock up was really Jones ducking under the ball rather than heading it.
Jones is great, but that doesn’t mean we should blame someone else when he messes up.

He is very young, just turned 18 last week.
Already been in the U21’s a few times, and scored.
He and Fullah who is 16, and Rylah who is 18 on Saturday have featured way below their age range.
Worth remembering how young these players are if tempted to rush to judgement and criticism.
Tyreece has only just turned 20.

Nothing like that. Quite the opposite, he looks a handful.

  • Good run out for McGrandles. Worked well with Dobson, and his pass and neat footwork setup Campbell's goal

May and Dobson both scoring great goals on live tv.
Bit of a worry with January looming.
Don't think these so called "big" clubs watch tv to get their feedback on any prospects...anyway still think they will  both be here next season...
I’m sure you’re right. Hope so at least. 👍

Think Leaburn has looked a bit disinterested for a while. He's a great player but very raw (his refusal to jump for headers most of the time despite being huge annoys me no end) and think he would have been gutted not to have been let go to whichever Bundesliga side bid for him. It probably hasn't helped he's been stuck out on the wing at times. I'd expect him to go in January and if not the Summer which is a shame but fine as we could bring in a few decent players with the money.

As for the BBC commentary, I actually thought it was pretty good. Asides from saying we are good at set pieces, the research had clearly been done which is more than can be said when we're on sky, unless they've got George Elek in as a pundit! They're always going to be routing for the underdog. It would be the exact same if they were showing us playing Liverpool
  • I don't remember the commentators once mentioning the beautiful pastoral sweep of the Quaggy, or the socialist(ish) nature of the Allotments.
  • Think the allotment shop must do a roaring trade in nearly new footballs

To be fair on both centre-halves, I just read that Appleton remarked post-match that Walker had said in the dressing room it was down to him. Diid Walker call for them to leave the ball, thinking he was going to get there first ?
  • Two descriptions of two our players being 'great' on this page of the thread! Amazing what a win does.

Heard he's been razor sharp In training.
