Genuine question.
yes is the short answer. they basically worked out the work permit rules were too stringent so teams are allowed a certain number of players who don’t qualify which varies based on what league you’re in. I don’t know for sure but I’d imagine we’re allowed 1/2. whether those players are any good and worth bringing in is a different question
Morecambe were apparently asking for £600,000 for Stockton when he had a year left on his contract - and no one (rather sensibly) wanted to pay that.
JCH is a far superior player, but also has less time to run on his contract and 400 - 500k feels on the high side but acceptable to me if he scored the goals to fire up our campaign.
Anything more than that is foolish. But as much as he comes across as a cnut, MacAnthony on the whole seems to do good business for Peterborough.
I would honestly walk away , not a chance DMac gets £500k with 6 months to run.
He's trying to force a bidding war, him and fry acting like they're not desperate to sell him. He'd be lucky to get half that late in the window if he hasn't already agreed a pre contract by then, and he knows it.
To be honest I don’t really see why JCH or Humphrey’s for that matter are that bothered about getting a move in January. Their options will be limited and will be far better in the summer as free agents when no fees are involved other than a fat sighting on fee. I’d sit tight and walk in the summer.

Sad but true. And we’ll be outbid because we go in offering peanuts goals win games so open those billionaires wallets please
If he wants 500, I’d counter with 350-400 and the remaining 100-150 is dependant on whether Charlton get promoted in the next 18 months or a similar clause.
It’s already clear they aren’t going to sell until the end of the month when they’ll be desperate for something over nothing.
Suppose they’re hoping a Wrexham type will come in mid January and offer 600-700.

Worth remembering that you are paying the fee to avoid the competition at a later date. If he becomes a free agent he will have a host of clubs after him, if you pay the fee you avoid that headache and can plan now with him.
If he had 3 years left we would pay it so I genuinely don't see the difference now. We would struggle to find a player as proven as him in this league for that sort of money. Al-Hamadi being priced at 2.5 million in the league below and isn't as good as JCH right now. We want promotion so we need promotion worthy players.
I personally think it's a very reasonable asking price. Not to compare Harry Kane to JCH, but it's a similar situation to how important he could potentially be for us. Bayern paid 100 million because they needed a player in that position and to avoid the transfer war they would have for him at a later date, they played ball. Now they're reaping the rewards and have their man for at least 3-4 years. Had they waited it out, he could have ended up anywhere else and they would not be able to find a player of a similar calibre for that money.
It isn't my money but I truly think it's a good deal, where are we going to find goals like that for 500-600k? May was a pure fluke.
Edit: the other thing is, it encourages other plays to stay and sign if you show that kind of ambition. The freebies and injury prone players we have been scooping up haven't been working if we are honest.
Just looked at Humphrey’s stats. Not at all impressive to be honest. Certainly not going to score a hatful of goals to fire us to a promotion.
I think he is a cracking player and has been in great form this season. Would be a huge uptick on our current lot.
Agree. Humphrys is a good age at 26 and would definitely add a physical presence to our team.
His goal scoring level is more miles leaburn than JCH’s prolific record but I’ve always been v.impressed with the way he leads the line & holds up the ball when we’ve played against him. Wigan fans rate him highly.
We’d be crazy not to try our luck with top L1 players that are out of contract soon e.g JCH, Humphry & Herbie Kane.
Expect we’d need to offer them a good a 3.5 yr contract to tempt them away though.

Those actually seem pretty sensible bids for JCH.
I disagree . He’s not worth 450K . If Peterborough want half a mil for him they can do one .

Also, do those excessive emojis in MacAnthony's tweet remind you of anyone...like his old mate
Can't wait for him to leave for free in the summer then, the fucking helmet
Such a big mouthed dick. Good luck to anyone paying more than £500K for a L1 striker aged 29 with 6 months on his contract.

Similar to when Gillingham thought they were serious competition for May.
