Fair play, probably getting paid a fortune!
  • Well he won’t be buying the fans a beer at the local pub, that’s for sure.

It's funny how "First Team Manager" at Charlton sounds much more impressive than "Head Coach" at Bristol City, which was actually a bigger job.

He's got a better agent than Aneke.

Fair Play Deano! I hope he is in their equivalent of the Oak buying their fans some lemonades.
  • Good luck Dean, great he has got himself a new job so quickly.
  • Ettifaq is right next to Bahrain, so he'll probably live there. That's where Gerrard (and Henderson before he left) lived.
  • Funny when I was last in Bahrain i thought it was an island?

Remember after his first couple of months when things had gone pretty well he was constantly linked with with Championship jobs. It always felt like bullshit because it clearly was his agent angling for him to get a longer contract at Charlton.

Fast forward less than a year and he's been out of work for six months and turns up in Saudi Arabia.

Best of luck to him, but it's pretty clear he's not going to be a manager.

Al Ettifaq won 5-0 away from home yesterday evening. Hope he’s enjoying himself out there..!

Wonder if he's stuck a oner behind the jump in the Sheikh's Arms yet?

Couldn’t be more pleased for him. Probably on very good money and living a great lifestyle. Needs to build back a reputation which was tarnished at The Valley not entirely of his own making. Good on him. Very decent man.

All his Christmases have come at once.

    Good luck to him though.

Despite Gerrards previous shortcomings as manager I think it’s clear he’s going to get another English job sooner or later. Would be nice to think Holden can become SG’s regular number two and get a long career in the job he obviously loves. Not sure he’s cut out to be the gaffer but I suspect has a lot to offer as a number two.

I wonder if he'll go down the pub with their fans?

That was a stunt Methven approves of, I imagine he picked up the tab.
  • I was in the pub last night with one of DH's close mates. Exchanged a text and video message with Dean on this guy's phone. He clearly felt he wasn't given long enough at the start of the 23/24 season, and said he genuinely loved his time at Charlton.

Oh - and he's no longer assistant manager at Ettifaq. Seems he and the sporting director have carried the can for Gerrard's lack of success for some reason?
  • Certainly one of the good guys

Had a long chat with him at the FSA Awards.

Certainly not a fan of the SMT

Which is interesting considering they’re the only reason he got the job in the first place.

My suspicion has been that he was never meant to last as long as he did but he was too popular/a preferred candidate wasn’t available
