Potential new song for our manager…

Oh baby, do you know what he’s worth
Dean Holden is the best on Earth
With his ginger hair he’s just what we need
Taking Charlton up the football league

If this takes off I’ll take my credit. If it doesn’t, you have never heard of Sage before and I was never here.
    A  long Friday was it?!

Still needs to prove himself imo.  I think he’s got more about him than Garner, but we’re an easy mark as fans and a few pints down the oak and soundbites about no dickheads means very little given the last few years.  It’s good that he did get involved the fans, but for me, all that matters is results.  I’d take a team of dickheads if we got out this league

Imposing yourself on the pitch on a Saturday is good, you can’t go out there and be bullied by the opposition.

I think the “no dickheads” policy was more likely in regards to presence around Sparrows Lane etc. which I very much subscribe to - a harmonious dressing room will be pivotal to a promotion season.

Like you’d take a team of dickheads if it meant promotion, I’d also take a team of Sunday league talent if it meant promotion. Reality is that filling your team with Roger Johnsons and Marcus Maddisons doesn’t get promoted.

Still, he's a nice guy so we have to ignore what's happening on the pitch.

    Excuses disappear next season.

Dont get the problem? - Man goes pub

That and the complaints about how Fraser celebrated our goal at Milton Keynes

Christ some fans need to get out more themselves
  • He’s earned his shot at next season but assuming he gets support during the window he’ll get much less slack next season.

No harm in going to the pub win or loose. I would not have extended his contract until the end of the season. But now he must be given a good run as manager at least a season  and the financial backing.

Some fans need to stop hero worshipping every player/manager just because they're associated with the club. You should have to earn admiration, not just get it as standard.

"Just win games"... So the man cant have a life, even if we lose, he has to go home and sit in his chair thinking constantly about work?

He could go to any pub in the country, you think it's just coincidence he goes on his own to the main home pub? Nothing but a PR exercise. Not my fault you can't see that

Is it not part of his job to try and get the fans on-side? I think he recognises the role the fans can play, also fair play to him for not just doing it when we win.

As for his performance, we are performing at the level you would expect of this squad, so he’s done decent enough in my book

I like the fact he will front the fans come win lose or draw. A lot of managers would hide after such a defeat. Speaks volumes on his character and I like him a lot. I hope he stays and gets the right backing (without FM interference) to build a very competitive squad.

Exactly this. Too many think players and managers are good just cause the play or manage us. He's shite for me. We are way to soft and accommodating as a fan base of poor players and managers

You are entitled to your opinion but IMO you are constantly in the most negative postings on this forum Always happy to criticise and find it hard to find any praise
I was down the Oak last night when Dean came along - happy to chat and have pics take .Seems like a good bloke in my book but results on the pitch may or may not dictate otherwise
Lets give him some time before we can realistically judge him but please feel free to have a pop at this post in your usual negative way

I think Holden is a decent bloke, an upgrade on Garner and Jackson, but until he got the job here his career was going nowhere.  For me, I’m not a fan of this mixing with the fans down the pub.  To be fair to him he fronted up after a performance like that, and I know he’s gone down there after wins too.  It’s a little contrived imo.  He has the majority on his side for now and quite rightly, he’s inherited crap.  However, next season the fans will afford less patience.  I don’t really care for seeing owners, players or managers fraternizing with the fans unless we’re making progress or smashing it.

Too many players get idolized in today’s modern game.  To me the majority of footballers are walking cliches that get paid too much money.

Earn admiration. What, like turning up at a pub you know will be filled with Charlton fans to have a chat with them, even after you've lost a game? I'm not fully convinced by Holden as a manager yet but I'm aware enough to recognise that you can separate out the Holden as manager/Holden as a person sides. He seems like a very decent man. I admire him for the way he's dealt with the tragedy he's had in his life, I admire his willingness to connect with fans and his refusal to allow players to get away with being both bad AND annoying. You're not making excuses for him or hero worshipping him because you think he's a decent bloke any more than you're saying he's a wanker because the team loses a match. This idea that you're tolerating football mediocrity because you're willing to say the manager did something nice is such narrow thinking it's laughable. It's like when the club posts something about a community day on Twitter and all the posts are just 'don't care, announce x'. 'Sign some players!' More than one thing can happen at once, we don't have to reduce the view of everything to great or disaster based on one situation

We would get out of this League/division with a team of dickheads and it's called League 2.

Christmas came early for Holden when he was given the job.
However, despite my reservations he has deserved a new contract and needs to be given a chance to bring in his own players and see what he is made of.
A major problem for Holden may be the drawn out affair of the takeover and so may have severe limitations on who he can bring in.
As a guy he seems on the level and I cannot see a problem going into the boozer after the game whilst he seems to have the fans on his side.  Perhaps he can learn a few things and get some new ideas.

Dean would have been way down the list of potential managers any of us expected and I must admit his previous cv doesn’t really inspire, but he came in under difficult circumstances and did better than any of us thought. He’s earned his chance with his own players and a budget to spend. He really does seem a genuine bloke and I don’t doubt gives his all. Sometimes it’s a case of the right person being in the right place at the right time and things just work. They move on and it doesn’t happen elsewhere. Hopefully for us he’s the one for what we currently need.

The players will know more than me but he just seems the sort of manager you run through brick walls for.
