  • Genuinely would go for Mick McCarthy. People will say old school and should retire, but only 63 (don't be ageist), promotion at Sunderland and Wolves, play off with Ipswich, did ok with Cardiff. Somehow made ROI competitive and always come across as honest and engaging. I think young and hungry always sounds great on paper, but IMHO he'd command respect and discipline.
Ipswich fans we spoke to on Saturday said Mccarthy's football was dire to watch and gates dropped off.
    Gates dropped off, impressive.
Gates?  He must have been nearly 70 when Mccarthy was at Ipswich.  A miracle if he was still in the team.
  • Sure this has been posted before but this a great article on Beale.

The best quote from Gerrard about him is:

"It would take me 15 to 20 years to become as good as Michael Beale as an on-pitch coach, delivering sessions on a daily basis, so I let Mick be Mick because he's the expert."

Which is why they will never let him go .  Ludicrous to suggest that he will come anywhere near us .

All these wacky suggestioms and combinations .....

Just employ a (proven?) manager, let him bring his own staff in. And let him make the changes as he sees fit (4/5 out, 4/5 in).

Top half finish next term and go for promotion the following.

No unrealistic goals. No Jason Euell. No Lee Bowyer. No Curbs 16/1

Just a conventional NEW person with some sort of decent credentials.

Top half? We were only one place off 12th this season! No way will Thomas or the fans accept a season of mid table mediocrity
  • My choices would be a Robbo return, Michael Beale or SCP with Dyer and Matthews

Agreed - it should be “the shit show”

Michael Beale - Talking though his coaching journey.

The more I look into him, the more I think we regret not getting him in. Especially thinking beyond league one.
Mentioned the nfl, done deal for Beale?

You do realise Villa don’t have him chained up. He’s not a slave and if he want to leave there’s not too much they can do about it.

Do you think the new manager should be replaced, again, if he doesn't achieve promotion in his very first season then?

But he will be under contract so they can still refuse any approach, especially if they want a compensation value beyond what we're happy to pay

If he's desperate to take the role, they could piss him off, but he'll still have to get on with his current job until he can leave at the end of whatever his current deal is.

We all know that’s not how it works though don’t we. If someone wants out there’s little point in standing in their way. Villa would be mad to try and hold onto someone who doesn’t want to be there. I’m sure they wouldn’t.

We only ever hear about the deals that work.

How many times will Gallen go to clubs looking to sign a player, yet get told: "No thanks he's not for sale" - We wont hear about those will we
  • Will be interesting to see if TS wants to pay compensation for someone.

You wouldn't expect many clubs to stand in the way of a coach getting an opportunity as manager.

Players possibly but I doubt any club would stand in the way of the ambitions of coaching staff.

Can you imagine if our star striker just upped and left despite having a contract, I mean he isn't a slave you know.  I am sure we would just wish him well and let him dance off on his merry way......

players and coaches are different though aren’t they ? If Jason got the gig as manager at eg Wimbledon, who of Charlton supporters would call him a Judas. None that’s who.
  • Is it acceptable to call people ginger and ginger twat now days.in our multi cultural politically correct society.
Just Twat should do it.  Anything else can be taken as re(a)d

Why are they?  Managers are treated the same as players.

I think it's different if your just a coach.  Gerrard and Beale are a bit of a double act aren't they?

If he is as highly rated by Villa, $tevie G MBE and the fans as some suggest it would be strange if they just let him walk off.
  • I remember thinking, 'Lennie Lawrence?' What are they thinking of! Something ditto with Gritt and Curbs. As Beale once played with us as a junior player he obviously knows we are a basket case club. Whoever we get needs to be well organised, very lucky and hope the buying team get their act together. Sir Chris did fantastically well, so it can be done.

You might be right but I can’t see Villa, the fans or Stevie G MBE standing in his way if he gets the chance and wants to manage.
  • Liam Manning might just have moved from possible to slightly more possible
  • Mate at QPR (season ticket holder) said that it’s the best football they’ve played for years under Warbs but priorities are on attack rather than defence. Attributes a lot of their down form to having all their keepers out and having to play their second choice youth keeper
  • Liam Manning might just have moved from possible to slightly more possible
Remember Voakes who wasn't good enough for us in the summer because we will sign better...
  • The more I hear and read about Warburton the more I think he’s the best choice. It also makes me think he’ll sadly have bigger offers than ours.

Les Reid was a very good coach - that didn't make him a good manager.
