On Saturday, Fumbluff jnr and I decided we’d move from the North and take in a game from the West, sat just behind Nigel’s bench.
We arrived nice and early (as the wave of optimism over the likely result against tiny Cheltenham had convinced me I needed to get the car parked up nice and early) and squeezed in a late lunch before heading down the hill and into The Valley.
We spotted Airman selling the Voice (although realised mine would be landing on my doormat whilst we were out with our late Saturday post) and one or two other friendly faces not seen for around 21-months in our case on our way around to the West stand turnstiles just after Bartram’s.
We bought drinks (and the staff gave us what we asked for, charged us the right amount and could even use the till so that was much nicer than being served in the North!) and we headed over to one of the TV’s to see the scores….Palace were winning but then the BT feed cut out to the smiling face of Scott Minto introducing ChartonTV but then the picture fell apart and that quickly became audio only…
Not to worry we thought and we sidled over to the nearest shelf to rest our drinks.
As I put my pint down on the shelf, the shelf fell from the wall, miraculously with a little bit of juggling I kept my pint upright and only lost a mouthful or two but juniors Pepsi bottle (being a bit shorter than me) was hit by the spinning shelf on the way down and flung across the concourse.
The shelf made a very over dramatic noise as it hit the floor and that was when I saw that there happened to be two lady members of staff in front of us, they both span around and the more senior couldn’t believe her eyes and was very apologetic and couldn’t have behaved better insisting to replenish our drinks (she sent the younger staff member away to achieve this) and checking that we were both alright. I had to yell after the other lady as I’d had a reasonable sup of mine and didn’t want to risk a further pint before the drive home and I almost had to twist their arms to not deliver me one!
The senior staff member then stood in the space where the shelf had been, holding the shelf (almost 6ft in length) upright and ensuring that nobody else could walk into the now exposed pointy wall brackets. She then calmy radioed for help from maintenance and a happy chappy arrived, took the shelf away and returned with a drill to remove the (now unnecessary) wall brackets which would have posed a bit of a Health and Safety risk to kids or @ElfsborgAddick or @AFKABartram
The wall brackets were each secured to the walls using 4 L-brackets, each with 2 screws per bracket but there was then only one screw “holding” the shelf itself onto these 4 L-brackets, could a fan really have been so hard up that they’d been surreptitiously removing an individual screw across each of the previous 7 fixtures?
I was just pleased it happened to us now that junior is a 16-yr old as back in the day he’d have been stood directly under that shelf and been leaning his back against the wall and that wouldn’t have been so much fun for him , anyway I just wanted to say that whilst the football was rubbish and there are all sorts of other things wrong I genuinely hadn’t expected to have been so instantly taken care of and immediately checked that we were both alright by this lady (apologies I didn’t get her name) and I’m 100% sure it wouldn’t have happened under the last owner (and if I’m honest I rather suspect him of skimping on shelf fixings in the first place!) so I’m just casually advising you to check the shelf before you next plant a pint in the concourse.

The question about employing a CEO should definitely be asked, as should the question about who is currently responsible for day to day running of the club when TS is in Colorado.
Then questions about things that affect club revenue like catering, like Valley Express.
What was the thought process behind a voucher that gives ST holders 20% off ONE beer at a game that the club and not the ST holder choose?

As a former member of the FF, representing the sadly defunct NWKA, I hope that one of those present on the 16th will be responsible for putting said agenda together and for taking minutes which will be cascaded to the rest of us within a couple of days. This, for me, is the only way for the majority of supporters to ascertain whether members are fulfilling their roles in ensuring that pressing issues are discussed.
The timescale, IMO, is important , as is the necessity to share all the discussions on the night, including of course, action points , so that we may participate in constructive feedback if appropriate.
When KM was seated at the head of the table, the minutes/notes taken had to be rubber stamped by her before they were made public, resulting in a long delay of said process. And, I am led to believe that certain subject matter was vetoed more than once.
I have no idea how many members of the Forum will be present on Thursday evening & whether there will be any inclusion of overseas personnel via Zoom.
Having been present & spent hours in the various reincarnations of the original FF, my final comment as the meetings are once again scheduled, is that members represent the concerns of the Addicks that they are personally representing. With seemingly few Supporters' Groups holding regular meetings in their home area ( including pre covid ) the FF is the main conduit between the fans & their club.
And, although I assume that Lucy Bishop will be present to raise issues on behalf of those of us unrepresented at the meetings, clear reporting via the OS is of paramount importance.
( This is NOT a criticism of the FF but my thoughts on its processes going forward with a new start )

I’m just more willing to accept it can’t be to the quality we might all like and will most likely gradually improve with time. Feedback of course helps that. I just don’t see it as a big issue personally and just bracket it as feedback for consideration.

This could be worked round by all those based in this country using the VPN 'illegally' adopting a foreign cousin alias (thinking foreign Top Gear Stigs here) and providing comments on CL written in pidgin English. No one would ever know...
