Of all the people in the world why did Thomas choose an unemployed ex academy director and FA bureaucrat to be his guide to the direction and strategy of a football club he may wish to purchase in the future......

Why did that person then advise him that by some lucky chance he would be the best person to implement such a strategy despite never having such a role before?

GR was in charge of the EPPP for academies. So for a club who relies on it's academy as a revenue stream (rightly or wrongly, fact of life for us), wouldn't it be generally a good idea to put the man who "created Category 1 status"in charge of getting the club up to the required standards for that?

Whether he has helped that or not is another story? It would be a good question to find out how does GR fit onto the transfer committee and what is his experience of that role previously?

Could not agree more, if that was what he was doing.

To be fair re CBT the club didn’t rate him enough to give him a long deal (or even an option?) and are now ‘scrambling’ around trying to extend him, so maybe the ‘knowitalls’ can be forgiven?

Depends who you mean by the club.  The manager obviously saw enough in his trial to play him in the first team, ahead of some very (relatively) expensive options.

    @995632

Hi 34, some really interesting questions you have raised. Have you sent the questions in officially ?

No point. They are not going to answer truthly & will be more bluff & bluster.

Gallen on his own at a fans meeting like Bromley might give out some nuggets but not when sitting next to the bloke the owner brought in to oversee all things football related.

    Pointless waste of time.

The few thousand of us who were either at the valley or watched on Charlton TV thought Blackett-Taylor may just be able to replicate his mastery of a Crawley full back in the Pape John pizza trophy to a League 1 full back. Worthy of 4 seasons I feel even if it is, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring of 22 and then decide if he is the flavour of the month?

4 months was an indicator that Corey had lost his way after his youth career at Aston Villa and his release from Tranmere.

Bright Grammar school lad who at 23, can still be top of the class.

Nigel Adkins was quoted in the South London Press saying "At the end of the season I was hoping we’d get our team assembled very, very early and continue with the theme from last season – to have a settled side to work through the pre-season period, so that our patterns of play were established."

Why then was it decided to not do that early team building and development of the squad, and essentially to forfeit the first 5 games of the season? We missed the playoffs by 1 goal last year, now we are 11 points behind where we were last season. Why was this judged to be an acceptable way to proceed with the season?
That assumes it WAS decided, which I doubt. Certainly it went very wrong but through error and overconfidence not a deliberate choice.

given the current issues and the amount of people venting their views, it seems strange that there's only 87 people on this event - what else are they doing on a tuesday evening ? why not hear it from the horses mouths and discuss rather than just ranting away all day?

Steve Gallen & Ged Roddy share an office. They identify targets then put them to @SandgaardThomas and @TheNigelAdkins. In general the four reach consensus on all targets. Ged Roddy explains that Steve has the lead role to negotiate with players and agents.

Makes Adkins comment rather awkward from last night

Steve Gallen says his life is much easier now that Ged Roddy has taken away some of the weight eg regarding The Academy. He can now focus properly on signings, contracts and negotiations.

But it does seem like he has no say in identifying a target.

Not new but Gallen was previously doing all the scouting, we now have scouts across the UK at games and watching videos internationally.

Gallen has just admitted that the four man Recruitment team isnt that much different to the previous Belgian regime.

Now where did I leave my tin helmet.

Gallen got quoted £2m recently for a League One player, three teams are spending ridiculous amounts

Ged Roddy describes analytics as the first step. Then we scout players- in person nationally or using video internationally. Ged and Steve talk. If they identify a target, they look at their social profile and check background. If green, they move forward with manager and owner.

Gallen was quoted £2m for a player recently, doesn’t feel we should pay it.

Three other clubs are throwing money around, could be in trouble if it doesn’t work.

Which isn't much difference to the Curbs, Peacock, Murray model either.

Agents are “skilled operators”, they are there with our squad list (and Ipswich’s, Wigan’s etc) and can see the gaps where we need players.
