Why did they skip from A to I?

Surely that many countries haven’t dropped out!
    Who was the I?
    Israel.

    The order is very confusing.

    It’s the Japanese alphabetical order

    Ah, makes sense.

At first it reminded me a bit of when the Football League Show first moved to Channel 5, and they just jumbled about the highlights from the different leagues with no rhyme or reason.
  • Jesus - this is boring  :D
  • Do we count as G (for Great Britain) or U (for United Kingdom)?

    "i" for "igirisu"

Have we gone yet? How far through their alphabet are we now?

    We were ages ago
  • Such a shame there are no spectators, Japan is such a cool country, and Tokyo a special kind of crazy

Watched the first 15 minutes of the opening ceremony and had to go away😰 It was like a funeral in a horror film. Many people are saying similar things on Chinese social media.
    No surprise there.

One thing that winds me up a lot more than it should during trophy ceremonies, opening ceremonies etc….

Sportsmen and women who spend the entire experience filming the entire thing on their phone. Just take in the potentially once in a lifetime moment - there are god knows how many cameras filming the entire thing for you.
    For the ‘gram innit.
  • Stupid comments from the Bbc commentators are really of putting.
  • This makes me so sad for Tokyo and Japan. They should be allowed another Olympics in 2032 and push Brisbane back by four years.

  • Just feels a bit hollow without the locals... they have been building for this for years & years and don't get to properly enjoy it in their own country. I think they should be allowed that opportunity to do it again, properly.

Imagine if all of London was done behind closed doors in 2013 - not nearly the same experience for everyone involved.
It’s just a money making/PR exercise for governments, same as hosting football.

    Cheers for this
  • There was a lot of people with sunburn. The Icelandic girl look extremely red.
Not a patch on the London opening but I’m biased
  • A personal beef, but couldn't the Japanese have found a proper Japanese Olympian to light the flame? Osaka has never competed in the Olympics, and tennis is hardly an iconic Olympic sport, but rather one shoehorned in. It would be like us having Andy Murray lighting the flame in 2012 or (if Golf had been admitted 20 years earlier) Nick Faldo!

Plus she's lived in the US since she was 3.
  • Goot times for me to watch. Got the cycling road race on at the moment and it's good to see the public out supporting the event.
  • Enjoying the men’s road race so far but still a long way to go. 207km…
  • Poor in the rowing eights. Commentators thought the British men had it sewn up before the race. No. Last! Women even worse, finishing several seconds behind the other three. Two Brits fallen off in the cycling! Not the best start for Team GB.
  • Doesn’t look like the O’Donovan brothers are rowing in the same boat at these Olympics.
  • Andy Murray & Joe Salisbury beat the French second seeds in the first round of the men's doubles tennis.
