I am starting to think Charlton have lost/forgotten the ability to actually ‘buy’ players. After so many years of loans and freebies, we don’t actually know how to do it anymore 😂
Didn't we offer £500k and later £600k. Is this just gossip shite or genuine in the know. This is brinkmanship to the extreme. Either TS has a poker face or just playing the Billy Big bollocks with the Crewe owner.
Graham from Gills is the very best we can do here I think.
Don't even want to think about the worst...
Worst will be signing no-one else and then Millar getting a bad injury tomorrow night & Famewo/Innis breaking down & not returning until after Easter.
It happens & why Bowyer has always wanted 2 players per position. Then throws that all out the window when he cant get on with a player & bins them off without first getting in a replacement
After hearing Bowyer bleat on about the salary cap every single week to which i've agreed with him up to now, but when the window closes I for one won't want to hear him whinge about the cap any more unless it's maxed out to the point it would be impossible to bring anybody else in.
Surprising to see a couple of LOL's on this.
So if when the window has closed the salary cap is not fully utilized or at least spent enough there's no wriggle room left then that's fine for a manager who moans about it every week? If you're going to moan about the cap at least fully use it.
I hope to see it fully utilized and there's still time left but it looks doubtful.
The idea is to improve the squad, we are not playing a football version of The Price is Right.
Yes of course it is but my point is if we're left with room in the squad, room that could have accommodated Williams' wages for example then it goes back to an earlier point, why let Williams go if there was still room for his wages. If there's no room left for Williams then fair enough, hopefully we can get one more in which will help offset letting Williams go.
I am not sure it is a simple as that. Williams will want to play for Wales in the Europeans and not playing for us would not help his cause. It is also a move to the Championship and probably means he will be on bigger money. I know that the conspiracy faction will have it that he is being cast out, but I doubt that is the case. Charlton also have a certain obligation to the player. He is out of contract in June and it would be a bit bloody minded of us to stop him moving his career forward. Who knows if such an offer would be forthcoming in that summer. He has been more than fair with us and I think we are all grateful for his contribution - not least in the playoff final. I have openly said that he would not be in my starting 11, but that does not mean I don’t like him as a player. A sub, but still would have been an asset. There is also the matter of £200k.
As we're maxed out on loans, it's not as if we can do a last minute deal as a loan, it'll have to be a permanent signing
Think we can do a loan deal - especially if it is then made permanent.
Can you do a loan to perm out side of the window? You used to be able to but not sure you can now.
I thought the same. If we sign someone on loan tonight with a permanent deal agreed tomorrow, I would assume it's still a loan until the summer.
Not unless they have changed the rules.
I think they did. I am sure we were involved in a deal and in about November it was announced that a deal had been done and would be confirmed on the 1st of January.
54.4.3 Temporary Loan Transfers may include an option to acquire the Player’s registration by way of permanent transfer. Any such option can be exercised at any time (including during a Closed Period).
The option can be exercised but doesn't specify if the registration can be acquired.
Isn't it like the football equivalent of the DVLA is shut outside the window. Me and you can buy, sell, test drive, exercise any options on a car between us but we can't register it in our name until the DVLA are open.
Regardless of what contract or employment law says?

It’s easy to say when it’s not my money but we got 500k plus for Alfie and around 200k for JW so why can’t we secure either Randall or Kirk? Because of their age there will be a premium to pay and we at some point need to start building a team for the next few seasons. I’m getting fed up with short term deals and loans and want to see some permanent signings and some forward thinking squad wise.

Barnsley lad is coming to Charlton

Are the lights still on at Sparrows Lane?
Are we sure that is not Ben Reeves in disguise?

Or both?
