Very sad to hear this, used to see him in Crossbars, always good for a quip and a laugh, seemed like one of lifes good guys.
He was a real football man, although he was George Grahams assistant when they won the league, for me getting in Hales, Flanagan and Powell for about 6000 quid tops that anyday.
Very sorry to hear of Theo's passing. I remember watching Derek Hales early in his career with us and wondered how Theo had managed to sign him.Even more baffled when we signed the likes of Paddy Powell and Mike Flanagan---this hadn't happened before,a manager who knew good players and could sign them. For Charlton! Football's "sleepers" who are then unearthed and offer so much in repayment on the field.He was a master at that.And he gave us so many great home game performances under the floodlights in the 1970's.A Charlton that scored fluently and were committed to attacking football.All down to Theo Foley. Thank you so much for those memories. Rest peacefully.
Going back many years, I used to play football at RACS in New Eltham and Theo would often turn up on a Sunday morning to watch. He was pals with our manger, but he would chat to everyone and he came across as a genuinely lovely man. RIP Theo.
Really gutted by this news. Loved Theo, and this is the second time he's made me cry. The first was when he was sacked as our manager, and now this. A truly lovely man, and a pleasure to have chatted to him so many times. R.I.P. Theo. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
Sure i've mentioned this before on here, but late 80s/ early 90s i was on Arsenal's books for about 5 years. Used to get freebies for all the home games at Highbury and used to travel up with one of the scouts and a couple of other SE based youth.
After the game we'd be sitting in one of the offices while the scout had a cuppa and network before the journey home. Theo would come bounding in, 'budge up, son'. You had to move quick or he'd sit on you. He was always bundle of energy and enthusiasm. What did you make of the game today son, what did you think of so and so....He'd tell you you was right or your opinion was rubbish. Just remember being a combo of terrified and excited.
No read need for him to take any real interest in us. Obviously made an impression as its stuck with me many decades on. Saw him at a couple of Q&As over the years and always good value.
