I wasn’t there and didn’t see the stream so can only offer comments based on common sense and what I am getting from the remarks on here. First point, dodgy ref or not, you can’t concede five goals in a game (eight in two) and expect to get much. Second, our defence has been a accident waiting to happen and Paddy B was that accident. Relying on two highly injury prone full backs with no specialist back up is madness/par for the course for RD (delete as appropriate). We have been wetting ourselves over our new found squad depth but we still have a glaring deficiency. Third, unbeaten runs can be a bit of a millstone so there is a tiny part of me that is relieved that it’s over for now and we can embark on another one. Fourth, Pratley, nah not for me. Fifth. Dillon, you might need to take the hint soon pal. He just doesn’t fancy you.
Onwards to Saturday but we need a win and to fashion a defence from somewhere. We might be seeing plenty of goals this season.

Aribos penalty was pretty lame on Saturday, swings and roundabouts . Although we sound like the worlds unluckiest team in the world with ref’s going by reports on here

Looks like I'm the only one on here but I thought the ref could of given a few more fouls to them.
saturday now is important that we go at it from the off how a team bounces back from a loss is the mark of a serious team, we can blame the ref but really and truly its the same old - you don't take your chances the opposition will.
Really strange game, like a 5 aside kickabout at times, every time we came forward it looked like we would score, every time we defended it looked like we would concede, Defence was alles uber de platz and Sarr, well not sure if he knew where he was supposed to fit in.
Scunthorpe seemed fairly well drilled at times, This coupled with our insistence to roll the ball out of the back from Steer and then short pass our way up the field just continued to put us under pressure and repeatedly broke down leading to a panic.
A somewhat entertaining yet wildly frustrating evening in a shit ground, in a shit league, in Scunthorpe, still at least were Charlton Athletic and were on our way back, perhaps
Full strength back four and last night doesn’t happen.
Solly out of position and uncomfortable on weaker foot, BFG out, Page went off and obviously been not fit last few games, Bielik still out. The international break will do us good.
Certainly no need to panic I think we’ll see a tight game as the response Saturday, not many goals.
Attack wise we were formidable, albeit we missed chances, but we are still a different weapon from last season and difference between Robbo and Bowyer is you can feel there’ll be a response to this.
A note on the passing around with the keeper and the back, I think it should be encouraged, lumping the ball long won’t help the likes of KAG, Fosu, Reeves, Ward, Igor. Only player suited to it is Taylor and he clearly prefers at his feet.
Up The Addicks, and chill out all, we lost a game, it happens.
11 league games played and the squads already been through quite a lot with different positions and formations used. Hopefully Bowyer learns from last night, and tweaks it for the Coventry game. The biggest thing being playing players in their most comfortable position available. If Bielik is back and Sarr can play left back then it’s happy days.
thought it was a pen myself, if your arms are outstretched like that then you always run the risk
having just seen the highlights posted above I have to agree. Pearce's hand stopped to ball from going across the box & to their player. Pen for me. Just the same as the shout we didnt get in the away leg of the Play-offs.....We didn't get that one & I'm still convinced it was a pen to this day.
Cant see much of the build ups to their goals but looks like terrible defending to me. Also blame must go to Grant for a (supposedly) awful miss & not passing when he shot (just like he did at home v Shrews). I dont mind a striker being selfish if he's Killer, Super Clive, Robbie Fowler etc.....but Grant resembles his name sake Kim.
That's a pen, his arm is away from his body and stops a cross going in, doesn't matter how close he is to the man. We'd be apoplectic if that wasn't given for us.
Steer should have done better for the 1st and 5th, positioning looks all over the place.
We've just had an unbeaten run and have come unstuck on a Tuesday night up North, typical Charlton and there's no need for the mass manning of the panic stations that seems to be happening on here. My only worry is that our defence has just taken another hit when it was already depleted, hopefully Bielik and Mascoll are back from injury sharpish.
Grant only has to pass to Aribo for a tap in, shoots and seconds later it is 3-2 to them rather than 3-2 to us. Looked like a no brainer to me! And in a nutshell you have the issue. In tight games there are moments and what you do in those moments are usually the difference - our judgement in those moments has been in recent years beyond awful. It almost feels like we are trying to make the wrong call.
We have this player in Fosu who can just glide past opponents at will - why with that attribute do we not create more in this league? Is it again always making those wrong calls at the important times?
at the game .. we started with at least 3 players who didn't appear to be match fit and, because of that were perhaps apprehensive and off colour .. Fosu, Grant and Page .. Page especially is injury prone .. another one very unfortunately as he was settling into the side very nicely .. he started because of no other option at left back ? Solly's move to left back caused us all sorts of problems .. as good as he is, he rarely gets past defenders to get crosses into the area .. Dijksteel for all his attributes is no right back .. after just 5 minutes we had a makeshift defence .. a novice right back, a reserve and shaky central defender and a left back playing out of position .. upfield Fosu and Grant were slow both in thought and deed .. without Taylor last night the result could have been far more embarrassing, he and Aribo were outstanding ..
we had the lion's share of possession but made poor use of it against a good side who lined up with three big central defenders and two quick full backs .. we were essentially outmuscled, outsped and yet still contrived to give them three goals on a plate .. Steer had no real saves to make but was beaten 5 times .. we also cleared at least one shot off the line .. after we took the lead we still lacked the nous to be pragmatic, to slow down and play a simple game .. I was in favour last night of having Pratley in the side as a 'stiffener' in midfield .. it didn't work .. stiff ? he was almost immobile and we improved when Reeves came on, at least in attack
having written all that, fortune was not on our side .. Fosu hit the post in the second half, a penalty shout was waved away (the type that home teams often get and away teams rarely do) .. their third goal was from a good but wickedly deflected shot and of course Page limped away after 5 minutes .. we need to sign an 'emergency' left back sooner than a s a p .. the game might be a wake up call .. we need hard work to sort out the defence and as has been pointed out by a few on here, midfield is good going forwards, poor going back .. (I forgot to mention, Cullen was great in the first half, second half he was marked out of the game)
All told a disappointing night for the long distance travelling fans who made good noise throughout despite the drummer being banned from taking his instrument of fame into the ground.
ME? .. I'll put this down to a collective bad day at the coal face
How can anyone with a functioning brain cell conclude that Pearce deliberately handled that ball. He was standing next to the bloke!!
If your arm/hand is in an unnatural position, then the ref is entitled to give hand ball. Unfortunately, Pearce's arm was not down by his side. If it was the ball wouldn't haven't hit his hand. It was unfortunate, but definitely a penalty.

Agreed, to me the penalty was slightly harsh but if it had been the other way round we would have been screaming for it.

We scored 2 away on Saturday and 3 away last night and should have had 5. I don't think creating more is the current problem.

exactly .. 'it's the Keegan at Newcastle problem' .. entertaining, scoring plenty and conceding almost as many, sometimes more
